ANTIQUE AMERICAN INDIAN ART - Peabody Essex Museum Native American folk art book
Uncommon Legacies: Native American Art from the Peabody Essex Museum" By John Grimes. Published by the American Federation of Arts& the University of Washington Press in 2002. DISCUSSION: In the glorious period of great sailing ships. New England mariners brought back treasures from far lands. The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, grew out of the East India Marine Society's desire, in 1799, to protect such'curiosities' in a museum. Later additions, including modern Native American works, have since filled out the collection. This book commemorates the opening of a new permanent gallery for Native American art. Three excellent essays introduce the history of collecting in general, the growth of collections of Native Americana, and the evolution of the Peabody Essex. Another essay on modern Native American art points the ... moreway to the future. Following are 119 glowing plates of the individual objects, with extensive notes on each. Each geographic area represented is defined with a short essay. A good overview of Native American art. DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 9”x12” 272 pages, color and some black& white illustrations. Antique carpet/rug possibly native american-excellent cond. vivid colors/pattern
You are bidding on an Antique carpet/rug possibly native american-excellent cond. vivid colors/pattern. This rug was purchased at an old antique shop in northern door county. I was told it was native american but I don't know anything about that so I will start the bidding at a reasonable rate for such a stunning rug. The colors are bright but when you zoom in for close up you can see the wongerful aging process the rug has gone through. It was obviously cared for and there were no fold lines so I'm thinking it was a wall hanger. Because of the age& value. The last two pics are to show what I mean by a one-sided rug. The reverse or back has obvious signs of handstitching and wouldn't be to display. The rug has been preserved so well it could be on the floor in a low traffic area. If anyone wants to fill me in on details or ... morehas an idea of what trible may have done this beautiful work, please feel comfortable emailing me. The measurments are 60in x 42.5in

IROQUOIS ANTIQUE CHILD's SNOWSHOES. OLD! NATIVE AMERICAN. RARE SMALL
NATIVE AMERICAN CHILDREN'S SNOWSHOES. 20 1/2" in length. These snowshoes came from a collection of Native Anerican items that were collected in the 1920's, 30's and 40's by a woman, now long deceased, who traveled the world collecting interesting items. I purchased some wonderful pieces from her family. There is a very old tag connected to them that says' Snow Shoes Iroquois St. Lawrence River" At the bottom of the tag is the price paid 70 or more years ago: $5.00. And these shoes were old then! The tag itself looks ancient. Condition is excellent, but there are a couple of spots on the rounded top of both shoes where the tiny connections between the wood and the gut has broken. These are the real thing. Powered by The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.

ANTIQUE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS & CRAFTS, ANTIQUES - Ralph Coe Collection
The Responsive Eye: Ralph T. Coe and the Collecting of American Indian Art" By Ralph T. Coe. Published in New York by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2003. DISCUSSION: Published in conjunction with the exhibition"The Responsive Eye: Ralph T. Coe and the Collecting of American Indian Art" Over the past three decades. Ralph T. Coe has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada to assemble this collection of Native American art, one of the finest in private hands today. Immersed in the cultures of Native America, he has come to know artists and artisans, traders, dealers, and shop proprietors, selecting the very best they have to offer. The Ralph T. Coe Collection includes representative pieces from most Native American geographic regions and historical periods. Beginning with objects dating back to the fourth ... moremillennium B.C. Many examples—men's shirts with ermine fringe, weapons, and button blankets—evoke the heroic lifestyle of the past, while small objects, such as tipi and kayak models, dolls, and tiny moccasins, speak to a more intimate significance. Ritual objects imbued with spiritual meaning—masks and katsinas, tablitas and medicine bundles—as well as utilitarian objects, such as pottery and baskets, also have a strong presence. This catalogue tells the stories of nearly two hundred of these objects, combining art history with personal reminiscence, and reveals the role Coe has played in bringing about awareness of the artistic heritage of Native America.
