The ... morebow is thickest at the midsection and it tapers towards the tips. The tips have a tight cord winding to support the bow string which is not included. The bow is no longer flexible and there are no cracks visible on the surface. The four arrows are made out of cane and they appear to be a matched set. There is no fletching on any of the arrows. The barbed tips are made out of palm wood. The barbs are attached to the cane arrow shafts with a tight binding. The binding is loose on a single arrow. Because of it's length, it would be very difficult to ship this item overseas. Bow: Length = 132 cm; Weight = 118 gm Arrows: Length = 114 cm- 130 cm; Weight = 130 gm(all 4 arrows) This artifact is from the estate of Dain Torguson. With most of the villages situated on cliffs to the north and the east. According to Dogon oral tradition, the tribe settled in this area between the 14th and the 15th centuries, after escaping from the Mande kingdom. Legend has it that a snake led them to the cliff at the southern end of the plateau, where they overwhelmed and usurped the local Tellem and Niongom populations. The Dogon livelihood is based on agriculture concentrated in fields at the edge of the cliff, where water is scarce, but enough for occasional irrigation. Dogon social and religious organizations are closely interlinked and out of these arose four principal cults which accounts for the richness and diversity of Dogon culture. Dogon art is extremely versatile, although common stylistic characteristics- such as a tendency towards stylization- are apparent on the statues. Dogon figures are predominantly associated with the ancestor cult. They are carved either for personal or family use or, if they commemorate the foundation of a community, are worshipped by the village. A great looking Antique Weathervane Arrow and Sun Colored Milk Glass Lightning Ball set up on a display base and mounted on a copper Lightning Rod. The items featured in this display all date to at leat the 1940's and likely are even older. The fancy cast iron arrow measures 18 inches long and has the original red tail glass and even though their is a crack in the one corner. It is firmly and solidly set into the iron frame. The old white milk glass ball is 4 inches in diameter and has a lovely lavender tint due to being exposed to the sun for many years. The entire piece stands 17 inches tall, is 18 inches wide and is set into a walnut base for display. Originally attached to the roof of an old barn on our property. It was threaded onto a lightening rod(as if we get that kind of weather in California! Featuring a straight arrow with lovely curled embellishments. Decorative piercings, a round. Double mount bra cket and a n oblong frame for inserting a glass panel. Condition is worn with lots of patina from weather. And fine pitting from expos ure with surface rust(does not bite) no cr acks. Bends, or missing pieces(amazingly enough) only thing o f note is the very end of the arrow has a bit of a flatten ed spot and the frame would have had two tiny clamps. One on each ... moreend. To hold the glass in p lace. There is only one clamp as shown and no indication the other is missing. So guessing glass would have been inserted and a tiny bra cket added. Held in place underneath the original screw as shown(that's my best c rack at it anyway) I thin k this is so visually interes ting with wonderful folk art appeal- lovely addition to any collection or display- still has years of se rvice! This auction is for an Antique Cast Iron Lightning Rod Directional Arrow that has a pretty Blue Glass Kite Tail. It measures 22 1/2" Long. The arrow in front of the blue glass kite is iron. The little tail on the blue glass kite is tin. The arrow is straight and the blue glass insert is secure. There is one small chip on the back bottom corner of the blue glass piece that I have pictured for you. It is slight and does not go clear through.just on the surface. There are no cracks in the glass. The color of the blue glass is really pretty. This one is not perfect. But it is cool and it is in quite good condition for it's age. This auction is for an antique cast iron lightning rod directional arrow. The beautiful red glass tail has a comet/star and moon etched into the glass. The cast iron arrow measures 22 1/4" long. The etched red glass insert measures 6 1/4" x 2 3/8" The iron is a little rusty from being exposed to the elements. But otherwise this piece is in Good Condition. Antique Columbia fire arrow bicycle bike 1940/1950 nylon white wall tires.
Vintage men's or woman's Antique two wheeled Columbia fire arrow road bicycle in nice shape. Tires are flat. Nylon white walls. Have not tried to blow them up. I road the bike on grass and still pedals fine. The rims have a light bend in them and rub slightly. Has original rack on back. Front has a speedometer that is non working and a break that is frozen. The paint is faded but the bike is res. A real strong and solid bike for someone to bring back to life. Seat is great shape for what it is. SCUTT'S ORIGINAL WOODEN BLOCK & ARROW POINT BARB - Antique Barbed Barb Wire
This listing is for an authentic vintage antique collector's sample of barbed wire fencing. This wire features a Hiram B. Scutt patent. Dated February 10, 1880. This wire is called"Scutt's Original Wooden Block Wire with Arrow Plate Sheet Metal Barb" by collectors. ref. Hagemeier 700-B) This wire features two twisted together line wires. Barbs are four pointed, made from an arrowhead shaped sheet metal plate. Pointed tip of plate, is slit to make two points. Plates are inserted between line wires, line wires twisted, and the points on each side of plate, bent towards each other to form an"X" Between each barb a wooden block is placed, with ends grooved to accept the line wires. These blocks were to make the wire fence more visible, a legal requirement in some states. Wire sample is 19-1/2" in length. It shows ... moreage and use wear, with light to moderate pitting. There is one barb with cut well centered. There are two original wooden blocks. These show age and exposure wear, with loss of wood, chipping, and splitting. There is some bending of points, but no broken, or missing points. Wire is in good used condition. This sample of antique barbed fencing wire is absolutely old and authentic. I bought this recently at a mud sale in LANCASTER. PA. Antique Lightning Rod with Cranberry glass ball and directional arrow Weathervane. Cranberry glass is hard to find. Cast iron arrow has a rope twist stem and originally held and animal. It is bent. Has a crack near the arrow and b rackets that held the animal are broken. Cranberry Glass globe has a swirl design. The glass is chipped at one of the openings. Copper Rod with copper tip. Rod is 71" tall. Missing one leg and one leg is missing the mounting bracket. Due to the issues mentioned. This item is sold as is. It's a nice historic piece despite the damages. Item ships within 1 business day. We combine shipping on multiple purchases. Returns accepted. Up for auction is this wonderful antique/ primitive DIRECTIONAL AR RO W FROM AN OLD WEATHER VANE. It is 30 1/4" in length and the diameter of the hole for the rod is 5/8" There are the remnants of solder where. Perhaps, once stood a cow or a sheep. The screws are rusted in place. Maybe a little WD-40 would loosen them. I do not know. This is a real antique one and they are getting scarce. These look great over a door of an old house. This weather vane is 100% guaranteed to be antique. All original& untouched. The craftsmanship is second to none. It was hand made out of heavy guage hammered copper& retains an incredible& original blue/green verdigris patina. My guess on the age is early 1900's, but I'm not a weathervane expert& I've never had this looked at, so it could be earlier. Measures approx. 21.25" long x 6" tall. Not counting the solid copper rod, which is 3/8" thick& measures 11 3/8" long from the rusty metal washer. This ... morepiece has a charming design that includes a farmer in his hay filled wagon pulled by 3 draft horses that are being harassed by a dog with the farmers son walking behind carrying his hay sickle. The silhouette design was crafted out of heavy guage hammered copper sheet with a hand drill& jewelers saw. You can see the handwork upon close inspection. See photos. The design is very detailed& proportioned. It was expertly& securely attached to the flattened& tapered rod end by two copper rivets that were hand hammered. The only thing that is not copper is the rusty& pitted metal washer. Wonderful condition with some minor nicks& scratches. Some copper showing through in small areas, some slightly bent tips. No breaks& never cleaned. There are areas of dark oxidation mostly to the back side of design as seen in photos. The boys ankles show dark copper, I'm guessing where he was slightly bent& realigned. No stress cracks that I can find. The whole length of the pivot rod has a smooth worn finish with wear scratches from spinning& the end has been worn down smooth& rounded. Edo Period. Black lacquered cane shaft with self nock and red wrap to the light brown fletching. Gold medial band to the fletch area. Red wrapped and cord bound tip. Rare karimata head of symmetrical swallow tail form with two points. See Art of the Samurai(Metropolitan Museum of Art. 2009) 187 for an archery set dedicated in 1662, of which two of eighteen arrows are of this type. That form has been described as a bow string cutter in which capacity its use was probably restricted to archery exhibitions. It is, however a devastating flesh cutter and the wound it would produce would have little chance of healing compared to that of an armor piercing arrow which made a small puncture which was survivable depending on the anatomy it encountered. The form is that of a pair of work horses pulling a plow and guided by a man/farmer. The reins are made of early twined wires. The plow. Horses, and farmer are riveted on an arrow. The vane is in a fabulous old black paint, with traces of a silver paint over it in some areas. There is no rod, so this would be displayed as a wall mount, unless you want to attach a rod to it in order to use it on a building. There are eight bullet holes in the horses, and one in the farmer, so this was obviously used for target practice when it was on the barn. The condition is very good, with just minimal paint loss. It looks to be made entirely of brass but has oxidation over it. However, the fletching(where the feathers would be) is made of aluminium to catch the wind. I have seen another one of these on ebay before so I know the aluminum part is correct to the vane. There are four old bullet holes in the fletchings part of the arrow. This is shown in the photographs, as is some rust on the steel base mount. The arrow weathervane is in all original condition and came from an old farm building on the Eastern shore of Maryland.
