Antique African Art Wooden Tuareg Tent Posts
Two sensational antique tent poles from nomadic Tuareg people in Niger. Africa. Used outside the tent to mark its entrance. Geometric designs of hexagons, triangles and rectangles are carved from pole itself and several are inscribed; the ends are tapered: the hexagons have cut outs. Three seemingly original repairs, holding wood together is done beautifully with metal. Some cracking and marking of the wood. Poles seem to be of the same wood but one has light oil? finish, the other is natural. The length of the posts are 43" and 38" respectively; the width is 6" at the widest point. These look great together as they have a similar design.

Nice quality weighty wooden sculptures. The man is in mint condition upon close inspection of the female figure you can see the underside base has a crack and a small separation on the side where the pony tail comes down. But this is not very noticeable and adds character to the piece. As you can see by the pictures you can not tell there is any damage. Also her nose has a rub where the wood shows lighter then the rest of the piece. You can see that in the pictures but the finish is smooth. This is a portrait mask from the Guro tribe. It has the common tattooing. Scarring and detailed coif associated with these masks. It is approx. 15 inches long, 8 inches at its widest and sits approx. 6.5 inches away from wall. See photos for chipping and natural scarring around the mouth. There is natural cracking on the right side of the jaw line and inside on the chin area. There is typical rubbing and wear that is expected with these pieces that have traveled far. Been used often and handled much. They are authentic and original without alterations. You can expect age cracking, natural pigment, patina and sometimes residual fire smell if they were used near ceremonial fires. Age cracks, chips and scrapes, overall condition good. The Senufo number 1.000,000 to 1,500,000 and live in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and the extreme south of Mali. Antique African Art (Signed) 2 Painted Pictures By Same Artist
These two African art prints are signed by the same artist. I have tried to figure out who the artist is. Nahtty.Nahtt.Nantty. Not sure. I will tell you what I do know. I found them at a garage sale in Erie. Penna. I thought they were so wonderfully unique. I know a lot of people appreciate African art. The matting really shows their age. Both mattings are very faded and have rough edges. Both prints have been taped to the matting on the back. Luckily this tape is only on the back of the print. I am not sure what kind of black paper the background is. At first I thought it was regular construction paper. But, it has a slight roughness to it.like a very tiny print in it. I believe the paint is tempera paint.but I can not be sure about that. One print has an antelope creature they have just hunted and killed. The other.I am not sure.looks like ... moresome kind of spirit or ceremony. The antelope picture is in great condition.no holes, rips, or stains. The other has small damage by the lowest white bird. But when I hold it up to the light.you don't see any holes. These old mattings do them no justice. They need to be professionally framed and they would look absolutely wonderful. Measurements: 9 6/8 and 12 6/8 in. the black part only.not the matting. I measured the black"paper" on the back so I could get an accurate size of the print only.the matting is worthless. If anyone knows who this artist is.please, please let me know. Definitely one of a kind paintings.

OLD antique African Tribal Primitive Folk Art WOOD Sculpture Carving artwork
Up for sale here is a vintage circa 1960s or earlier African carved wood sculpture depicting a Nude Seated Figure of a Woman. The sculpture measures just under 15 1/2 inches in height by 5 1/2 inches across by about 5 1/2 inches deep. There is no maker's mark or artist signature on the piece from what we can see. There does not appear to be any paint or finish on the work either it is just bare carved wood. The piece has some nice facial details and the extra carving on the boarder of the seat is a nice feature. For condition there is a split through the center of the face and through the leg of the chair. There is some minor natural handling wear and a few light scratches and nicks to the wood but not bad overall. We are not sure what region in Africa that this piece was made. The pot has a wonderful patina and deep colour created through age and years of obvious use. Very naive and simple carved decoration with turned rings around the top middle and base. An old reapir has been made to the base at some point as shown, or this may be original to make it water tight, it's hard to tell. The pot weighs just under a kilo and stands just under 10 inches tall with a top diameter of 5.5 inches. This is an unusual and quite insulting carved figure of an African American gentleman. He is dressed in 18th or early 19th century costume. With knee breeches, fancy waistcoat, and long coat. He is standing on what appears to be a tree stump, which makes me feel he is a caricture of an black politician or preacher. He stands 4 1/4 inches high and is carved from a single piece of wood. On the base are two sets of inscriptions. One set is initials in pencil and the second is a series of numbers in ink, which look like museum accession numbers.

This is a"Gle" or spirit sculpture of the Dan tribe which is located in the Ivory Coast/ Liberia region of Africa. The Dan peoples believe in the spirit forces of two worlds. The world of men. Women and their village is one world and the jungles with its mysteries and animals are another. Fetishes are the most powerful of all magics. To the Dan people and they are the embodiment of"Gle" which are roaming spirits. The fetishes serve many purposes. Some were for good health and fertility and there were other that embodied and supervised every aspect of village life. Here. We have a female spirit. 24 Antique African American folk art Primitive wood Apple dolls Americana Rare!!
I was fortunate to obtain 24 of these Antique/vintage Black Americana dolls these 24 come in all forms. I'm not familiar with these dolls at all and have no idea what they are worth there could be some really rare ones. The dolls that I found unique were The voodoo doll with the X eyes. The two wooden dolls I'm thinking maybe these were mold because there incomplete the one is missing legs and arms. The one is an apple doll made in California. There's also a black White doll with two head. A few also look to have a island look. The one doll has Jamaica written on its dress this is in marker. All these dolls are different shapes and sizes mainly mad out of cloth. Some of these dolls could be very rare as I said I'm not familiar with these dolls at all. Rare Antique Tribal Mangbetu Female Figure African Art Sculpture Mask Vintage
You are bidding on an outstanding antique African tribal Mangbetu female ancestor figure. Democratic Republic of Congo. First half of the 20th century. Size: 16" x 4" x 3.5" 41 x 10 x 9 cm) This large standing female figure with high flat hat. Elongated head, and geometric scarification throughout body embodies the Mangbetu ideal of female beauty. Provenance: Private California Collection. Linguistic patterns indicate that the Mangbetu originated from the northeast. Probably from modern day Sudan. As they moved southward they encountered Bantu migrations moving northward. They finally settled in their current homeland in the 19th century. This area had been occupied by the Mbuti. The Mangbetu intermarried with and subsumed many of the Bantu and pygmy populations they encountered. In the 19th century the Mangbetu Kingdom was ... moreestablished under Nabiembale and became the dominant political force in the region until 1880, when Sudanic and Islamic slavers entered the region, fragmenting the kingdom into sultanates controlled by Moslem leaders. Famous for its realism, is a court art.Wooden figures are believed to be ancestral portraits. Antique African Chess Set - Hand Crafted Art
Very old(circa 1800's) hand crafted African chess set. Clearly no two pieces are exactly alike. So not cast from same molds. Knights are 5" tall and pawns are 2 1/2" The pieces are made out of brass, but I don't know how the black ones are colored. All pieces are present and still in very good condition for the age. The board is not included in the sale-just used for photo purposes.

This unusual carved figure stands 110mm(4.5' high x 22mm(75' across and weighs 69 grams. It is naively carved as an African head complete with neck rings and was clearly originally a handle for perhaps a fly swat or a walking cane? It has considerable age and is not in the best of condition with a missing section to the base(photo3) Glued cracks to the body and stress cracks to the head but is an interesting and genuine antique piece of African Tribal Art.
