ANTIQUE ORIGINAL AFRICAN HAND BEADED FOLK ART YORUBA BEADS SASH
This is an antique African Yoruba Beads Sash beadwork wall hanging. It is all hand stitched and the beads were all hand applied. The hanging has sea shells decorating/lining both sides and there is a beaded hook on top for hanging. It measures 47" long by 4 1/2" wide. They are used for guitar straps as well as decorative pieces.

More pictures below in the listing description. Solid Wood Sculptures depicting Tribal African Man and Woman. This set is in very good condition. Nice quality weighty wooden sculptures. The man is in mint condition upon close inspection of the female figure you can see the underside base has a crack and a small separation on the side where the pony tail comes down. But this is not very noticeable and adds character to the piece. As you can see by the pictures you can not tell there is any damage. Also her nose has a rub where the wood shows lighter then the rest of the piece. You can see that in the pictures but the finish is smooth. When you turn the Sculptures over you can see the whittle marks on the base of the wood. I have many pictures to show the detail. Each Stands: 9" Tall x 4" Deep x 3" Wide.

Hollow Wood Cells Because of the misunderstanding regarding hollow wood cells. A brief explanation is needed. Any person dating carvings has many criteria to determine age. The breakdown of the wood cells is an important aspect of age determination. The strength of the wood is the outer edge of cells. The cell center(like bone marrow) is the passageway that feeds the wood. This center lacks strength as it is softer then the cell walls, thus it disintegrates more quickly. Laboratories determine the progress of the cell center decay to determine the wood age. This varies some by the tree variety also the location of the carving must be considered. It is difficult if not impossible to find a 300 year old carving in the tropics as humidity speeds destruction. Also wood eating insects are a big problem. Many of the Dogon areas are in the dessert above the insect line. Pieces can and are stored above the insect line for many centuries in this very dry climate. The study of providence shows it takes 250 to 300 years for a dry climate stored Dogon piece

Made of a lightweight/ low density variety of wood with very fine, small finger jointed corner construction and primitive, bent metal/chainlink hinges. Structurally solid/sturdy.yet fragile. You can really feel the age of this piece in your hands. Hinges work good and make a distinctive creaky noise when opening/closing. Five sides of the box have applied paper(bottom has just a little, at edges(see last pic) designed with flowers& leaves(stencilled? in white. Heavy patina to all materials. Interior of lid has a full color picture of a small white man leaning against a cartoonishly large boot(which has a dog's head design on it) and a very large black man dancing while he polishes a more normal ... moresized boot. A pitbull-looking dog is sprinting by(looking at the"fake" dog on the boot) on an otherwise empty street. There are two, 4-story and larger brick/masonry-looking buildings in the background. This item was made in the 50's The Sheath was made from a lion's pelt The handle was made from real eye-vree This sword would not have been used in battle. It holds a great deal of significance and would be used in tribal ceremonies. Because it was made from the parts of the most powerful animals found on the continent of Africa. 1865 CHICAGO PRE FIRE CIVIL WAR AFRICAN AMERICAN CHALK LITHOGRAPH ART ANTIQUE
An original chalk-manner stone lithograph(with ink and watercolor) dated by me to approximately 1864 or 1865 and possibly by well-known artist Louis Kurz. I have information indicating that this company was founded in either 1864 or 1865 and closed after the Great Fire of 1871. The piece measures approximately 9 ¼ x 10 ¾ inches and has a few condition issues as pictures but easily fixed. There is also a small tear on the bottom right lower third side. Mr. Kurz was famous for his Civil War chromolithographs while partnered as part of Kurz and Allison. These images were pro Union and sympathetic to the African American cause. I would say the title“Long Drawn Out” refers to both the Civil War and the African American struggles. Rising from a basement. An apparent weary African American soldier with aged and civilian symbolism is relieving ... morethe younger generation(as shown by the tooth pull) and bringing hope. It appears the juvenile nature of the reclined man represents hope for a greater future as well. All this is just my take and I’m interested to hear any other opinions. Description This antique/ vintage circa 1900-20's South African Ndebele Tribe or similar Zulu etc tribal art beaded head pad for carrying large water pots. Is hand worked with stitched hard ring pad in red cotton. The outside is cased with colourful bead-work patterns and it has scaled loops hanging from front and a rounded neck cover to the back with loop edgings and two rows of three loops above. This gorgeous and rare old head pad is worked in old materials and the beads are all very irregular in sizes, width and shape which point to an early 20th century piece or even late 19th century. These are not the type of items that were made for tourists. FINE ANTIQUE AFRICAN CARVED WOOD STATUE FIGURE OF A MALE DRUMMER TRIBAL ART
Pleased to offer an Antique African Carved Figure of a Male Drummer. Our research shows lthat it is likely an early example. Figures like this. Playing drums, were often representations of important individuals partaking in divination ceremonies. The statue is very rare in that it is depicted with realistic attributes, from the delicate bony protrusions of the wrist to the emaciated frame of the torso. The viewer can also observe the musculature of the back and scarification on the face. Details like these, accompanied by telltale natural wear patterns, show this to be a piece made for tribal use and not for the tourist trade- much time was put into this piece. These are the types of pieces that can see large sums of money in Paris and New York auction houses with the right provenance. The Lega Bwami Hat is a 6.5 x 8.5 Inch piece. Generally white in color made of colorful buttons. I have examined this piece and agree with the description. Lega hats reveal status among the Bwami secret society which governs most of Lega life. Animals are important in Bwami symbolism. And elephant, pangolin, and hornbill all represent different levels of Bwami. This one is decorated with vegetal fibers, mussel shells and European buttons. Hats with such as this was worn by the grader members of the Bwami, the Ngandu and Yananio. They were worn during the ceremonies and dances celebrating new graders or initiates.

OLD antique AFRICAN or OCEANIC Fine Folk Art Primitive WOOD SCULPTURE Carving
Up for auction here is a vintage. Antique circa 1940s or earlier Western Africa or Indonesian primitive wood carving with eyes of cowry shells and represented with alligator on his back. The piece measures about 13 1/4 inches in height by about 3 3/4 inches in width by about 3 1/2 inches deep. There is no makers mark or signature from what we can see. For condition there are several areas of black paint loss to the figure. There are also cracks in the side, top of the head and around the feet area from the wood shrinking over the years. Up for sale here is a vintage circa 1950s or earlier Primitive African Wood Sculpture depicting a figure holding some type of object in its hands. The sculpture measures 14 3/4 inches in height by 6 inches in width by just a little over 6 inches in depth. There is no maker's mark or signature from what we can see. The sculpture is painted in a black type of finish or paint. For condition. There are several cracks in the sculpture. Two are located on the head on both the right and left side but not through the center of the face. There are also two cracks or splits on the left hand that extend to the body. There are several small spots of black finish that is missing but most of the finish is intact. The sculpture does not have any worm or termite condition from what we can see.
