A friend got this cute little beaded elephant in Africa several years ago. It is cleverly handcrafted of iridescent beads strung on grey galvanized wire. Eyes are made from coiled wire with blue beads for pupils. It measures 4 3/4" from trunk to tail. And 4" at the tallest part of the trunk. It is cute, whimsical and appealing, and typical of African tribal art of the 21st century. 2p5ddv.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk%601d72f%2B26rk%3E2p5ddv-13e785e9952-0xfc-

Authentic Used Vintage African Chokwe Tribal Art Small Initiation Mask Angola
This listing is for an authentic vintage Chokwe Tribe small girls mask from Angola. Africa circa early 1900s. The wood mask portion measures roughly 8" x 5" x 3" Overall(front to back) depth is 8.5" including the coiffure. It has 5 shells on the head, and eight on the rope hair braids. There is carved symbolic"stitched" scarring on the cheeks with red paint, and some type of applied(clay? texture on the ears, around the eyes, on the teeth, and on the symbol on the forehead. It is fairly worn, and has some minimal loss to the applied texture, and is missing a few rope hair braids. Email with any questions, and check out our other antique African masks(last photo)
Authentic Vintage Worn African Art Punu / Lumbo Tribal Okuyi Dancer Mask Gabon
This listing is for an old used authentic Okuyi dancer mask from Gabon. Africa(Punu/ Lumbo/ Lumbu tribe) It measures 12.7" x 8.6" x 4.5" It is in good condition with one of its rope tie strings still in place. Much of the white clay has fallen off of the face(a thin coat of plaster could easily be applied to achieve the correct appearance) I will pack the mask as safely as possible, but the clay continues to shed from the face area. I have learned that on almost all authentic and unaltered masks of this type the white face wash is missing- beware of masks that retain"original" clay in pristine condition! Email with any questions, and check out our other authentic African mask listings(last photo)

OLD AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: CARVED "SHRUNKEN HEAD" W. CROWN, PENDANT
Returns Not Accepted We insure all items we ship of value greater than $50.00. We incorporate these costs in our shipping and handling calculated by the calculator. I know little to nothing about this. While I list it as a hundred years old. It could be newer or older. The pendant is about 3 inches long and it almost looks like it is carve out of petrified wood or bone. I am guessing it is African. Though the carving looks like it represents a shrunken head. SHIPPING AND HANDLING: We post a shipping calculator for shipping and handling costs. The Ebay shipping calculator includes the handling costs. This shipping calculator is the same as what we use to generate packing slips. It also adds insurance. Which of course increases as the value goes up. We do combine shipping for a savings. this is usually based on additional weight and handling ... morerequirements for the extra items. We do collect handling fee, generally $2.50 cents for smaller items and $4.50 for normal lartger items that require peanuts and purchased boxes. We use priority shipping and handling and offer other shipping options Local pick up is encouraged and no handling or shipping fees would be applied. INTERNTATIONAL SHIPPING: If you do not have a shipping calculator shipping costs can be requested. African tribal Bwa Do solar mask, ethnographic art, Burkina Faso, decor
This mask was made by a member of the Bwa tribe in Burkina Faso. The are scattered across Mali and Burkina Faso. Numbering somewhere in the region of 300,000 people. Each Bwa village is governed independently by male elders devoid of a central political authority. Bwa masks represent or embody bush spirits. Who are invoked to benefit mankind and the natural forces on which life depends. Bwa masks tend to be two dimentional and don't extend to the back of the head. Wood masks are more of a southern Bwa tradition, with the northern Bwa using leaf masks associated with the Do society. Wooden masks are very family orientated, danced in various ceremonies from harvest celebrations to funerals. This solar mask is beautiful and a finely made example of Bwa mask making. This mask measures approximately 20" across.

Normal.dotm 0 0 1 131 751 Full Sail 6 1 922 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false This NO RESERVE auction is for a Kota Mbulu Ngulu Reliquary Figure. The Kota. Or Bakota, people are spread primarily across a sizable region of eastern Gabon, but also to a smaller extent in the People's Republic of Congo. A cultural hodge-podge, the Kota are primarily agrarian, farming a few primary crops, and are known for using the slash-and-burn farming technique, as well as crop rotations. They are thus a relatively sustainable people, utilizing these techniques to reduce the soil erosion and nutrient depletion of their farmlands. Their religious/spiritual life surrounds the worship of ancestors, and their most notable piece of artwork, the Mbulu Ngulu, plays a notable part in this belief ... moresystem. Though they vary a great deal stylistically, these figures seem to universally display a relatively spade-shaped head leading down to a diamond shaped lower portion, to which was attached various bundles of relics and/or bones of their ancestors. The figure protected these bundles, referred to as bwete, and upon being lashed to it, would stand more or less upright. The surfaces of these pieces would be embellished with various metals, each of which held a'magical' significance. Though a similar form of art is found among the Mahongwe people, the Mbulu Ngulu is characteristically Kota. This Mbulu Ngulu is in quite lovely condition. Featuring one variation on the spade-shaped upper, and the typically characteristic diamond-shaped lower. Its forward surface has been covered with sheet metal, and it's'facial features' are made up of this metal, as well as various metal fasteners. The bottom of the figure terminates in an actual base, whereas some terminate only in a rounded end, making this piece somewhat easier to display. It is in quite good condition, though it does features typical rubs, dings, and scratches associated with advanced age and element

The Igbo ethnic group inhabit a heavily forested region of south-western Nigeria. And subsist via farming, merchant trading, hunting, and fishing. Secret societies abound within the Igbo communities, and are responsible for change as well as tradition in the social and political life ... moreamong the people. As a collective people, they display a remarkable artistic diversity, shared among dozens and dozens of mask varieties, as well as an innumerable variation in figures. Typical to that style, this piece features a tall and elegant, detailed coiffure, in this case darkly pigmented. Much of the rest of the body is covered with pigment. The figure's hands are resting palm down near the groin, interesting, as most Igbo figures display a palm up motif. Identifying scarification marks can be noted in several places on the figure. Beautiful African Tribal Art Wood Carved Giraffes - From Namibia - Native Wood
Beautiful African Tribal Art Wood Carved Giraffes- From Namibia- Native Wood A very popular African tribal art animal figure is the giraffe. This wood piece was carved by artisans from Namibia in Africa and acquired in the mid 1990s. Carved from native wood. The dark sections are created from careful burning of the wood surface. Giraffe carvings in Africa have distinct carving styles that actually identify where in Africa they were created. This item does have a few stress cracks at the base created from the wood drying out and from moving the piece from a tropical climate to ours(cold) This really only adds to the overall character of the piece and its handmade presence. It measures approximately 18.5" tall by 10" wide and 11" deep. If you have any other questions, please contact me. Letter from the owner: All the items being ... moresold here from Treasures from Beyond have been collected by me over the last 50 years. I have been a field scientist my entire career and am now reluctantly ready to let go of them in hopes someone else will be able to enjoy them as much as I had collecting them while out on expedition. I really don’t care for the impersonal format of the internet. As each piece in the collection has a story and a photo essay to enhance the provenance of each artifact. Please feel free to contact me. Then we can set up a conversation by phone directly. I would love nothing better than to meet every person that acquires one of my special treasures and memories as I have spent years lecturing on far away cultures and exotic places. I have enclosed pictures of the places the pieces were collected; in hope that they will encourage you to perhaps contact me. Keep in mind the pictures are decades old and were taken when I was a young man. I would love to give anybody interested a personal look through the treasure house that contains thousands of treasures. In fact. The Discovery Network did a program on the building of the structure. There is not one thing in the house that is conventional except

Info about Chokwe people: The Chokwe also pronounced Tchokwe are an ethnic group of Central Africa whose ancestry can perhaps be traced to Mbundu and Mbuti Pygmies. Large groups of Chokwe currently reside in Angola. Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their language is usually referred to as Chokwe, a Bantu language. Many also speak the official languages of their countries: English in Zambia, French in Democratic Republic of Congo, and Portuguese(as first or second language) in Angola. The Chokwe were once one of the twelve clans of the great Lunda Empire of 17th- and 18th-century Angola. They eventually became independent when they refused to continue paying tribute to the Lunda emperor. Their successful trading and abundant resources caused them to be one of the wealthiest groups in Angola. By 1900 the Chokwe had dismantled the Lunda kingdom altogether. Using guns they had received in trade from the Ovimbundu. Chokwe language and influence then began to dominate northeastern Angola and spread among the Lunda peoples. The Portuguese had virtually no contact with the Chokwe until the 1930s whe

Splendid Bobo Fing Calao Mask #Alobalo African Tribal Art Burkina
Item specfification Type of object Mask Ethnic group Bobo Fing Material Wood Dimensions Length: 42 inches(108 cm) Approximate age Over 100 years Additional information This mask is a Bobo Fing calao ancestor mask. Beautiful rare top quality mask. The masks symbolize animals or spirits and are worn during ceremonies associated with new crops. Initiations and funerals.
