FANTASTIC OLD ANTIQUE WAR CLUB TRIBAL AFRICAN OCEANIC NATIVE AMERICAN NO SWORD
Being offered is a nice old antique root ball club with a massive root ball and of tremendous heft and weight for its size. This club measures 18 1/2" in total length. The root ball is about 3 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" wide. The root ball has a lot of old dings and there is an old age crack but it is holding solid. The handle and the root ball have a very nice deep reddish brown color and a rich glossy patina. There is a leather wrap in the middle of the handle. The leather has worn quite smooth from much handling. There is a very small chip at the very bottom of the handle. This appears to be a very old club. I'm guessing it is 18th or 19th century. Not sure where this club originates. It could be Native American. It could be Oceanic. It could be African. With the leather wrap in the middle of the handle I'm leaning towards ... morethis being a Native American root ball club. I wouldn't rule out Oceanic though as I believe some Fijian clubs have this kind of feature. You also see these kind of clubs in Africa. In any case. NATIVE AMERICAN OCEANIC AFRICAN LARGE HEAVY WAR CLUB NO SWORD
Being offered is a nice old antique and massive root ball club. It measures 30 3/4" in total length. The root ball itself is about 4 1/2" long and almost 3" wide. I am not sure what type of wood this is but it is a light colored wood with knots throughout the handle and a nice twisted and knotty root ball. These root ball clubs can be found in various Native American cultures. Throughout various Oceanic and Polynesian cultures and also in Africa. For this one, I am leaning towards either Native American or possible Oceanic, maybe Fijian. I wouldn't rule out African either. This club has a lot of character. There is some splitting to the wood primarily on one side but it is still very solid and has a good heft to it. There is a hole drilled towards the bottom of the handle, presumably for a leather wrist strap. The wood ... morehas a nice glossy patina and shows very good age. These swords were used by Yoruba Chieftains as a mark of office and were carried on court days. The sword would be stuck into the ground next to the Chieftain; the accused and witnesses faced the sword as they were sworn in. See“Afrikanische Waffen” by Fischer and Zinngibl. Page 12, for two nearly identical swords. This sword is 61” overall, and of massive forged construction. The blade has bands of incised and punched decoration. The decoration is continued above the square crosspiece, which is incised deeply with a cross on. The hardwood hilt is bound with iron bands, rows of conical headed nails and a large conical pommel. It displays very good condition over all with some looseness ... morein the attachment of the handle to the blade. There are two 4”5” sections of stabilized corrosion on one side of the blade. The small bend of the sword may be an original feature of the item.

He was born in 1923 and crowned in 1979. His capital is in Benin City, Nigeria. Traditional elements in this brass sculpture are: the wide royal ceremonial sworn. Called an Eben, the royal round collar resting on the shoulders, outlined eyes, a forward-facing gaze that symbolizes sight into the spirit world, and a cast representations of royal coral beads. Being offered is a group of 3 carved wooden statues or fertility figures or type of doll. They vary in size from 7 1/2" to 8" and also vary in width with one real wide and stout one and the other two a bit more narrow. They all come with painted hair showing the part with painted eyes. They all have remnants of black paint or dye particularly around the face maybe to represent a tattoo. They each come with a beaded necklace but unknown if that is original to them or not. OLD ANTIQUE AFRICAN TURKANA WOODEN ANCESTOR DOLL STATUE NO SWORD
Being offered is a nice old antique ancestor or fetish figure. Doll, statue wood carving. This example measures 7 1/2" in total length. It is carved out of a dark wood which has developed a nice patina. On the figures head has been placed a very coarse material which I am unsure exactly what it is. The figure shell inlaid eyes although one eye is only a partial piece of shell. The figure has leather, metal and beads wrapped around its neck. It is wearing a leather apron, the leather showing very good age. There are multi-colored beads on the front apron. The wood has a few areas of wear particularly in the feet area. A good example of an African 19th Century Warrior's Fighting Sword. This sword has a large and wide double-edged fighting blade with a series of incised fullers and simple geometric decoration. The hilt is quite unusual and has a distinctive triangular ribbed iron pommel upon which is placed another inverted triangular shape. Am not sure which specific tribe would have carried this particular sword but is it reminiscent of swords found in the Congo area of Africa. The grip is wrapped in interwoven pieces of leather. In some cases such pommels are made of aluminum or covered with gold leaf. Among the Akan swords of different shapes and complexity serve ceremonial. Ritual and political purposes. OLD ANTIQUE AFRICAN THROWING SWORD CONGO REGION 19/20th CENTURY
Being offered is a nice old antique African throwing sword that most probably originates from the Congo region and would date to the late 19th to early 20th century. This sword measures 19 1/2" when measured in a straight line but is 9" wide from the upper left protrusion over to the right bump out section of the blade. The grip is bone with a stepped and carved upper and lower section. The blade has a very sculptural look to it with a protrusion at the lower section of the blade near the handle and then at the top the blade splits with a protrusion to the left and then a small bump out in the blade to the right. African 19th Century Mandinka Mali High Status Warrior’s Sword
A very nice 19th centruy high status sword from the Mandinka communities. This wonderful old dress sword is from Liberia/Gambia regions of Western Africa. Overall this sword measures 90cms in the scabbard and 86cms out with a blade of 66cms that appears to be an early French trade blade. The hilt is of stitched and dyed leather that is showing a very warm patina. The pommel is that hexagonal bronze shaft with a Pyramid to the end. The Pyramid shows incised and geometric designs to its surfaces. The scabbard shows the wonderful variety. Colour, and skillfully woven and tooled leather work these regions are famous for. With some losses and damages to the leather work. An interesting African c.1900's Warrior's Short Sword and scabbard. Am not exactly sure where in Africa this type of sword can be attributed to but it does bear some resemblance to swords of the Mandinka Mali tribe of West Africa. Most particularly with regards to the distinctive tooled leather decoration to the hilt and scabbard. The sword has a deeply engraved and curved blade with multiple eyelash decoration and swirls towards the end of the blade. The hilt has a leather covered iron ring to the top of the hilt. The original leather carrying strap still remains attached to the scabbard. The condition of the sword is excellent with very little wear- there is some minor patches of staining on the blade.
