SWORD SPEAR KNIFE SPEARS ZULU SPEAR HEAD AFRICAN TRIBES OLD HAND FORGED 17 - 36"
SWORD SPEAR KNIFE SPEARS ZULU SPEAR HEAD AFRICAN TRIBES OLD You are bidding on these 4 old pieces. All have hollow ends- I'm referring to the round hollowed ends as handles(as shown) where they would have a stick inserted for throwing them. The longest is about 36 inches long with the blade(which is not sharp) being just over 29" by a little under 1-3/4" at the widest(nearer to the tip end) The handle is just over 6" long. This one is flatter than the other ones. With a ridge running down the center of the blade on both sides. Then there are two that are very similar to each other in style and size. But are not identical. They are about 30 inches long. The handle end is hollow and tubular shape, then it becomes squared for a couple inches, then tubular for the bulk of the length, then they come to a square tapered end- please ... moresee the pictures. The smallest of the spears(and the deadliest looking) has a very pointed tip. Is about 17 inches long, and much fancier, with sharp feathered spikes along 2 opposite edges of the spear, making it impossible to remove without causing more damage, and an etched decorative pattern beside the feathering, and elaborate and sharp detailing at the end of the handle(please see the photos) The hollow handle part is about 4" long. They were acquired in Africa 40-50 years ago by a gentleman that was serving as some kind of a dignitary at the time. He was a huge history buff and collected many African items during the years he and his family lived there. He died. And his elderly wife kept them until she sold their home here in the US. She could not tell us what tribe the spearheads are from. She said he had collected items from many different tribes over the years. We thought they might be Zulu based on what we have seen. But we are not experts. so you'll have to review the photos and base your bids on your own knowledge of them. Thanks for bidding! Thanks for looking!

European visitors commented upon swords as early as the mid-1600's. They are primarily ceremonial and parade swords for they have neither point nor cutting edge. Swords(afena or afenatene) are prominently displayed at royal courts as regalia of the king reflecting his power and authority. Sword bearers precede the king or rest at his feet when he sits in state. During occasions when the king is carried in his litter they rest their sword hilts against the litter. Swords are used to swear oaths to the king and state, and to identify messengers as they carry the king's word while on the king's business. Some swords(akrafena) were to keep the king's soul pure and used for him to swear oaths. Other gilded wooden-handled swords are of this type and if used to swear oaths were known as"nsuafena. Lot 1585: Kuba Hand Forged African Blade, Knife, Sword. Currency Spear (Zaire)
Today you have a unique opportunity to own a part of an impressive collection of original African objects which is now being liquidated due to several unforeseen circumstances. Please check out all of our auctions for other interesting pieces! This forged iron blade is being sold as part of a private collection of African tribal art and artifacts. It was appraised as part of a larger collection in 2005 which has since been divided. And an appraiser estimated the value of similar knives at over $600 at that time. Since then the price of some authentic African artifacts has more than doubled! Much of the collection has already been sold privately or gifted to different institutional organizations. Objects that remain from this collection are of very good quality, and some have been recently exhibited and displayed to the public in Georgia. ... moreThe appraisal is not included with the auction, you are buying the mask alone. Look if you like- you will not find many authentic African blades like this on ebay. All reasonable offers considered. Please inspect photographs prior to bidding; as this is a liquidation. ETHNIC TRIBAL AFRICAN CEREMONIAL SWORD, KUBA ZAIRE BRONZE WITH IRON BLADE
This is a hand-cast and hand-worked ceremonial African ceremonial sword designed to demonstrate the power and prestige of the wearer. Not shown is the"belt" loop on the back through which a belt would have attached the weapon to the wearer-or used to hang it in view of the village. Most likely it was made and used by the Kuba people of Zaire. Most of the surviving examples of such ceremonial weapons date from around the turn of the 19th Century into the 20th Century. This is a great one and has little faces(see detail photo) Loops with rings in them, sculptured people along the top of the sword itself.and lots of detail on the iron blade of the sword itself. I believe it is museum quality. This item is fresh from the estate of a Lubbock academic who traveled extensively in Africa during the 1950s and 1960s, and then through Asia, ... morethe Pacific Island, and the wilder, more primitive partsof the Americas. This was one of the more spectacular pieces among the African group. Please view photos carefully and ask any questions before bidding as I do not accept returns. If an item has been substantially misidentified. Then, of course, but that would be an exception. But the fact that I have identified the sword as"probably made by the Kuba People of Zaire, is in no way meant to be a guarantee of proper attribution. That opinion is based on things I was told at the estate sale by liquidators who knew the family, my own research in a reference library on African art and artifacts that I also purchased at the sale. You may consult your own"experts" as to who made these ceremonial objects.and when.and more also about the materials used.and be guided by your information as to whether you wish to own(by bidding) this item. I believe the materials to be bronze and iron(the blade especially) One more thing: the scabard has a kind of metal drop(near the top left of the scabard, but there is not one on the right side. I do not know if this is a typical detail of such ceremonial sword. or if they usually had

LOOKS AS THOUGH IT MAY BE AFRICAN MADE BUT IT ALSO LOOKS LIKE IT COULD POSSIBLY BE ISLAMIC OR ARAB. NOT SURE. STILL A COOL DECORATORS PIECE. IF YOU ARE INTO AFRICAN ART THIS WOULD MAKE A GREAT WALL HANGER. CONDITION IS GOOD FOR ITS AGE BUT IT DOES HAVE ITS BLEMISHES. BLEMISHES JUST ADDS SOME CHARACTER TO THE PIECE.
