It was brought to the UK in the 30's by a family member ... morewho was working out there as an anthropologist. The trunk would have probably been used as a ceremonial trunk to keep treasured possessions and cloth in but this[as you can see by the pictures] comes with some very odd items. From research I have done about them. They seem to be Shaman's artifacts. Items which would be used in witchcraft, none of the items have been opened from their wrappings so that their content should be intact and preserved and how they would be intended for use by the Shaman. Some items have been swaddled/mummified in an early hessian type cloth. The trunk is large at 29inches in length x 15 deep x 13 wide and makes a beautiful feature and talking point. The condition of the box is good for its age. The wood shown in the box is from the right hand side of the lid and can be fixed back on easily, it has always been as it is since I have had the box. Inside of the box you can see the tool marks from the construction, with the use of very primitive tools. Part of the front clasp has broken off at some point but again the broken part is still with the box. Some nails have been replaced at some point in its history and some original remain as do the primitive hinges. The box is hand carved with circumpuncts and geometric patterns typical of the regions crafts. The circumpunct signifies the sun and was used a lot by tribal craftsmen[as well as the rest of the world] For overseas shipping please contact me with your postal code before buying. Postal charges vary considerably with larger items and I can then get an accurate quote for you. You might find it a lot cheaper!

The blade is made of steel and the handle is made of some kind of skin or hide that has a stitched seam made of same material. The Sheath is what i think bamboo wood wraped in hide. It measures 27" from top to bottom. This Ngulu sword is estimated to have been made in the 1800's and was used for ceremonial executions. These are extremely rare especially with an ivory/bone handle, indicating greater importance. It's most unique aspect is it's handle. The handle was hand carved and is supposedly made of ivory, but I can only guarantee that it's bone or ivory. It depicts a tiki-like figure, most likely an African god. Wide bladed short sword. Perhaps North African, in it's extensively tooled leather scabbard, 26 inches in over all length when sheathed. Double edged, curved blade 18 inches long and 2 3/4 inches wide at the hilt. Blade is pierced and decoratively stamped. Hilt is entirely covered in leather with a ring pommel. Handmade sword and scabbard(sheath) Unsure of age or tribal origin. Though this is old- just unsure if its mid century or how much earlier. Sheath measures 32 1/2" x 4 1/2" Beadwork design on both faces is the same. One width side has leather and the other has cowry shells. Denim shoulder strap. Overall measurement of sword is 32" Both sides of the sword have the engraved design by handle. Condition: I would say that overall for its age, it is in very good condition. This is an original African metal short sword sculpture. The exact origin unknown as many tribes in central west Africa utilized these swords. I obtained this one from an African trader while on one of my many trips to Cameroon over the past ten years. The sword has wear from age. Dings, rust, and scratches. The wood hilt also has wear and scratches. Because of the value of the metal and artistry these swords were sometimes used as currency in African villages or as part of a dowery. This is. To my knowledge, an African loop dagger, from Niger. There is one pictured in Christopher Spring's'African Arms and Armour' on pg. 43. It's similarity lies in the loop handle, and the basic design, the dagger pictured has a much different blade. There are lines incised in the handle on one side only, I can only assume that this is meant to be the top, otherwise they would not be seen.
