Beautiful handcarved ebony statues. One is handcarved by Makonde tribe in Tanzania genuine ebony nat. The other was handcarved in Kenya. There are no returns on these. In excellent condition almost like new. I just acquired these, but I need to downsize. They are from a non-smoking pet free home. Dimensions are as follow: height 14inches for both. Carved Wooden African Statue - Woman with Market Basket
This is a great statue that I have enjoyed owning. I didn't purchase it in Africa. As with my other objects, but I love it just the same. She is 19" tall and 6" wide at the widest point(her basket) The only"flaw" is a crack in the wood at her neck, which I believe to be original to the wood. It was there when I got it and only adds to the nature of the piece. I do not know the wood, although I would bet on teak since it is pretty dark and that is a common wood used for carving. I also don't know the country of origin, but have seen many things like it in Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans are known for their wood carving. Again, I can't prove either statement, so don't hold me to that. A neat statue that will accent a corner or tall spot well. Please email with questions.

Here is another genuine Shetani carving I found among my stuff. Similar to my other carving currently up for auction. Let's start this one low and see where it goes as it has slightly less detail(no toes on the foot of the leg it is eating. This forest Shetani is having fun with an elephant(perhaps explaining why they lift their trunks as the Shetani forest spirit is of course invisible in the Makonde reality. It is also munching on a human leg(must have eaten the rest of the poor villager earlier. No damage. No repairs, solid one piece original carving. Elephant has bone or horn tusks. Carved in ebony wood by the Makonde tribe in Malawi. Neighbor to Tanzania. Note the color variation in the natural ebony. Beautiful natural hardwood(so hard in fact, that it is impervious to any bugs. about 9" in height. A most interesting piece- ... moreshowing the importance of spirits in Makonde life!

She does have a hairline crack around her neck area. But it is not a break. Please do not pick her up by her head! Lid to the burner is not original. But looks OK. It is stamped with sil ver benchmarks. But I didn't look them up. Measures 14" ta ll. 9" a cross& 10" front to back. She is very heavy. I am not sure if she is ceramic or pottery.
