I picked these up at an estate sale. I was told that they come from Africa. Primitive tribal food storage horn with leather stitched caps. Primitive made knife with a 6 1/2" steel blade and 4 1/2" leather wrapped handle. Total length is about 11" The leather handle on the knife has a lot of wear. A piece of rubber was tied around the front of the handle. I assume to keep it held together. Stitching is loose. The horn storage container is really in nice condition. You can see in the pictures that there is still some hide on the caps. It's about 10-11" long. It's 3" wide on one end and 2" wide on the other end. Only one side opens. Interesting OLD HANDMADE AFRICAN TRIBAL ETHNICITY KNIFE AND SHEATH up for sale! The knife measures 12 inches in length and it is nearly 3 inches in width as it is spade shape. It is made of an unknown metal that is rather thin and the metal itself was handcut as the edges are not even! It has a wooden handle that was carved by hand! The decorative face carved into the handle matches the face on the shealth! There are also shells sewn into the material of the sheath! I think the sheath is made is made of some sort of animal skin? not sure which. It is completely stitched and decorated by hand! What a great addition to your vintage African artifact collectibles as this knife and sheath comes to your in GOOD condition. The metal is tarnished. Handle is slightly loose~~mentioned for accuracy. Doko, Nzombo, Lobala and Lia as swords ceremony and parade on a large region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Used by leaders and social elites they indicate the social rank. They were originally used in ceremonial slave executions. Belgian explorer provided a description of an execution he witnessed in 1883 in which a sword of this type was used particularly effectively. Blade engraved with traditional geometric designs is forged in long axial and Pointe broad iron hook, the back is lively small growths in ergot. Beautiful wood and the only flaw is that it appears to have broken and the bottom of the spoon was glued back together very nicely. Hardly noticeable. This knife comes out of my personal collection. I have been collecting antique African arms and art for about 20 years, but I am in need of the money right now so I'm letting some of it go. A Little info I've gathered: Poto, Ngombe swords were reserved for dignitaries as a sign of distinction. The Poto, Ngombe, Ngata and Ngala all used these knifes or swords and it is said that the wicker part of the pommel contains subsances that give the sword magical powers. As far as I know it was made in the early to mid 20th century, but it may be older, and it was bought from a very reputable dealer here in the Seattle area. NICE OLD ANTIQUE SUDANESE TUAREG AFRICAN ARM DAGGER KNIFE NO SWORD
Being offered is a nice old antique African arm dagger from the Tuareg people in the Sudan. This is a good old example that would date to the early to mid 20th century. It is a good sized one measuring 21 1/4" in total length. The handle is wood that is wrapped in leather with a row of leather wrap. The lower half which has come loose and slides up and down the handle. There is a metal ferrule below that with punch decoration. The arm loop in leather and is thick and shows some wear around the edges where the wrist would have slid in. The rest of the scabbard is done in leather with some metal bands. The scabbard is in good condition with just the leather loop being a bit dried and stiff. The blade with 3 worn down fullers and sharp edges. The tip is rounded.
