Where Kuba tribe predominates. She didn't ... moreknow how old the statue was but thought it was authentic. I have seen statues, similar in form, but of a female and child, that originated from Yombe tribe in north western Zaire, close to my place of work. Another suggestion is that it could be Yombe funerary figure. The statue is approx. 25 ½" tall and 10" wide(measured at the base) It weighs slightly over 11 lbs(without any packing materials) During the time I worked and lived in Liberia I started collecting African art. Both traditional and contemporary, I continued enlarging my collection when, few years later, I returned to work in Africa, in Zaire(now Democratic Republic of Congo) I collected these items for their decorative value and can not vouch that they were actually used in rituals, that did not interest me. All such items, which I am selling now on Ebay, were either purchased by me or received as gifts from my coworkers or missionaries I worked with while in Africa.
