Bamana Hunter Tunic,Hat Amulets Cowries African SALE Was $550
Title, Hunter's Tunic and Hat, Type of Object, Clothing/Textile, Country of Origin, Mali, People, Bamana, Materials, Cotton cloth. Leather, fetish packets, cowry shells, mirrors. Approximate Age, Mid 20th century, Dimensions, 35 inches x 26 inches Top Overall Condition, Good, Damage/Repair, wear from use. Some amulets and cowrie shells missing, We do not recommend laundering textiles. And do not accept returns of textiles which have been laundered in any manner. Even dry cleaning is too much for some of these antique textiles. For some of them, a very gentle HAND washing(NEVER MACHINE, on any setting) in cool water with a very gentle detergent works, but even then, dyes may not be colorfast, and fabric may be less strong than it appears. Additional Information: This fine hunter's outfit which includes a tunic and a hat is from ... morethe Bamana people of Mali. Bamana hunting-related items are well-known and quite sought-after. And collectors love these pieces since they almost always have a fascinating array of protective and"good-luck" amulets attached to their surface. Our tunic and hat are superb examples of Bamana hunter outfit on which we find cowry shells, mirrors to deflect evil spirits, and multiple small fetish packets, filled with unknown materials, to ensure a successful hunt. The wilderness is regarded as both dangerous and valuable, both as a source of food and as a source of spiritual gifts. The amulets provide safety, and its contents were known only to the owner. The artistic diversity of the Bamana is without doubt one of the most astounding. And confounding, of all West African groups. Like their western neighbors the Dogon, complex religious, funerary, initiation, and agricultural rites have resulted in an enormous pantheon of ritual objects. This tunic is published in AFRICAN BEADS: JEWELS OF A CONTINENT. Africa Direct, Inc. 2010, p. 39 African Beads: Jewels of a Continent is the first book ever published to deal exclusively with African-made beads. In detailed chapters organi

Vintage Western Cowboy Hat 1800's African American Black Tintype Photo w/case
I have for auction an old black african american tintype. The man in the image looks to be wearing a western style hat. It is a 1/6th plate size case. The picture is about 2 3/4 by three inches in size. The image is old and has some surface problems. Has scratches. Some cracking, etc. as can be seen in listing photos. It has a case. The back and front of the case do not match so I do not know if it is orginal to the image. I am guessing the image dates back to the late 1890's or so but may be a little earlier. The tintype is under glass so there is some reflection in my listing photos. The clearity is better in person that my listing photos indicate. Has small hook that holds case shut. Starting bid of $69.95 with shipping $5.95 by priority mail. US paypal account needed with payment due within five days of auctions end. I only sell and ... moreship within the US. Thanks for taking the time to view my listing.
