Rare Vintage 1960's Child's Size Straw African Tribe Herdsman Fulani Hat Beautiful vintage 1960s African Fulani hat. It comes from Mali. Africa. It has several detailed leather appliques stitched onto its heavy woven straw body. It even has a fringed and knotted topknot tassel at the top! It measures approximate 10.5" in diameter. It has leather chin straps. It would make a lovely addition to your child's Halloween costume or would look lovely hanging on a wall in an African-inspired room. This is just like the hat owned by the late Sammy Davis Jr. that sold on auction for considerably more than our asking price(3 digit figure and the first number wasn't 1) The Sammy Davis auction can be found on a web search. This hat was collected in Africa in the late 70"s or early 80"s. It is made of raffia and brass and decorated with cowrie shells. Glass beads. It measure approx. 6" across and 4" high. Small raffia hats, called laket mishiing, were given to Kuba men upon completion of an initiation process, signally transformation into a mature member of the tribe.
