Bamun Collar Currency Bronze Cameroon African SALE WAS $350
Title, Bamun Collar Large Heavy Bronze Cameroon African Type of Object, Bronze Collar, Country of Origin, Cameroon, People, Bamun people, Materials, Bronze. Brass or other alloys, Approximate Age, Unknown 20th century Dimensions, 11.5 inches x 14 inches; 7 inches interior Diam, Overall Condition, Fair to good, Damage/Repair, Old repair on left side. Oxidation on the surface, Additional Information: Old repair on left side. Oxidation on the surface. This is an exceptionally large and heavy bronze(or brass) collar decorated with cast human figures on the lower part and with series of intricate patterns on the upper part in the form of of a crescent with opening. The origin of this dramatic collar is not known with precision. But its ornamentation related this artifact to works from Cameroon. The shape of cows head and detailing of the surface ... moreare from the Bamun. Such collars were probably cast for a king or a member of the royal court among the Bamun people. The brasscasters guild historically worked primarily for the monarchy. With smaller pieces being available to chiefs. Bamun castings were all made using the lost wax technique. Which produces one-of-a-kind pieces. A core of clay is covered with wax, which is then carved into the exact shape which the artist wants the finished piece to have. Additional wax"pipelines" are made for the wax to exit and gases to escape. The wax is then covered with a layer of fine clay, and with succeeding layers, each coarser than the previous one. The mold is then heated, which melts the wax and fires the clay into a solid mold. The empty space is filled by pouring in molten brass. After the piece cools, the clay mold is broken, revealing the metal piece ready for polishing. Recommended Reading: Tamara Northern. The Art of Cameroon, The Smithsonian Institution, 1984. Old US 1953 B Hawaii South African $2 Dollar Bill Yellow Red Seal Note Currency
This is a 1953 B Yellow seal $2 Note with Red Numbers~ NO RESERVE! I don't know much of anything about this note. It was with other items that we purchased from an estate sale. I tried doing a little research& found that it might be a Hawaiian note or South African possibly. The note is in a protective plastic case which I opened ever so carefully so that I may take better pictures. I did not touch the note with my hands. It looks to me that it is in very nice condition. Free from any tares, rips, pin holes or any other damage except for the potential fold or crease that you can see running down the middle. I'm definitely not any expert in this field. I have just tried to do a little research so I can try to explain this note a little better than I would had other wise. The persons collection whom we purchased some of. I was told ... morethey liked to collect different error types of coins& currency. Along with other oddities& unique items which we purchased a few boxes as well& will be continuing to do our best to be listing more of. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. Will ship FREE u.s.p.s. delivery confirmation. Thank you for taking a look!

They are known under several names: dihunga(for small examples) doa(for larger examples) Other names are: Linganda and Ngbele. During marriage ceremonies up to 60 doa might be exchanged for the bride. These were specially shaped to look like spearpoints but were too thin and long to serve as such. Antique African Lobi Hand-Forged Iron Two Headed Snake/Protection, Currency
A ntique. Hand forged iron, double headed snake, made by the Lobi in Burkina Faso. 32” with thick, crusty rust patina showing its age. Snakes have significance to the Lobi in their mythology. And can be seen in their shrines. The iron pieces are used as currency, and, since the Lobi spend much time in the fields where snakes are encountered, they are also used as protection. Smaller works, many cast in bronze, may even be worn. This older, rusty snake was probably placed in a field. Two headed, and more rare three headed pieces are viewed as possessing more luck and protection than ones with only one head. gsrx_vers_566(GS 6.7.1(566)

African tribal Fulani currency jewelry traditional brass earrings gold coated
The Fulani were one of the dominating cultures of all of West Africa but colonization put an end to their empire. Resulting in the scattered nature of the Fulani today. They value colorful beaded jewelry and body ornamentation above most African people. Since they are nomadic, the Fulani produce a very limited range of art objects and purchase or trade for materials for subsequent use. These earrings can be seen on the majority of Fulani women in a range of sizes and quality. These are said to be made by hammering brass very thin and then coating with a thin layer of gold. They measure approximately 3cm by 3cm.
African Jewelry/Currency-Antiquities
MANILLA-West Africa. At the beginning end of the 15th century. The first manillas may have been made from bolts from the ships that frequented the West African coast. Then as the popularity grew among the African tribes, They were manufactured in Birmingham England, for export to Africa. Irregularities occurred at the mold joints leaving extra metal called"Flash" protruding from the surface. It was very important that this"Flash" not be filed away because the natives would not accept any manillas so tampered with. A good ring quality was necessary. Inferior cast iron pieces made in Birmingham were rejected by the natives because of their poor ring. The main currency of West Africa and used for most purchases. ag6 2.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp73%28c%3Eag6%3E2-149b23d338e-0x109-
