RARE. ANTIQUE, AND VERY UNIQUE MBOLE COPPER ANKLET RING FORMED CURRENCY FROM THE AFRICAN REGION OF THE CONGO FROM THE EARLY PART OF THE 20TH CENTURY Very ... moreunique and odd piece of World Currency and African history. It's amazing to think that this hand-formed copper ring was once used to trade others in the Congo for food. Land, and even a wife. This piece comes to you from a recent auction purchase of a man who owned many pieces of hand-made African regional art. This piece is in very good condition for it's age, but does have a few spots where there are small cracks. You can see a few in the photos. It has the same original patina and has NOT been cleaned at all! It measures a VERY LARGE 9" in diameter and weighs over 4 pounds, so this is a much larger piece than others that are currently out on the market. DON'T MISS OUT! This would make for a wonderful displayed piece of art work in your home or place of business. The akua’ba(akuaba) is probably the most well-known and most easily recognizable of carvings from Ghana. This fine example dates to the early part of ... morethe 20 th century. Judging from the aged crusty black patina. It would probably have been commissioned form a local shaman/carver to enhance a woman’s fertility. Although there are many later variations(particularly during the middle to the 3 rd quarter of the 20 th century) This superb early example is carved in the classic from which has become a popular icon for an African fertility doll. It has a round flattened head. Simplified face with oval eyes, a ridged neck and horizontal arms forming a cross with a gently tapering cylindrical body. Fine early examples such as this sell at galleries for as much as $5000 but I am selling this amazing elongated akua'ba with relatively modest starting price. H = 13.75 inches I am currently downsizing and selling part of my personal collection of ethnographic and related materials in order to help pay for my next major project( relocating to a new residence. Please be aware. Therefore, that during the next few weeks or so, I plan to list many of these interesting and, often, unique objects on eBay. Also note that: PayPal is my accepted mode of payment. Please pay within 48 hours after winning the auction. Unpaid items will most probably be re-listed after the fifth day of non-payment. Due to my current scheduling constraints. I am currently limiting my sales and shipping ONLY to bidders within the United States but this may change in the future. Because of its shape and proportions. I will be shipping this bowl via USPS Ground Delivery. If you would like it shipped using another delivery service and are willing to pay for the difference in cost. Please notify me immediately after the close of auction so I can make the necessary arrangements. No returns or exchanges but sold items are covered by eBay Buyer Protection. Because all items are sold as-is and all sales are final. Please read my listing thoroughly before m

Barbarian Tides. TimeFrame 1500-600 BC. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover: 175 pages. Publisher: Time-Life Books Inc; 1987) ISBN: 0809464047. The Time Frame series ... morewas released in the late 80's-early 90's. Each volume undertakes to describe the major events that happened in one specific time period in the development of mankind’s civilization(s) The volumes are richly illustrated. And designed as an introduction to the time frame covered. Especially compelling are the artists interpretations or recreations of what various ancient civilizations would have looked like– their architecture, homes, monuments, cities, daily life, jewelry, food, family life, dwellings, occupations, etc. As just one instance, the ruins of Babylon and Ur, Athens and Rome hint at the incredible richness of those fabled cities. The artist’s recreations in this series are simply mind-numbing. This is as close as you can be to actually having been there. The entire series is truly a magnificent introduction to the history of the era. If you could have just one book(or series of books) to introduce the history of humankind. This would have to be it. The overviews are concise and well-written. Together with the illustration and pictures they impart a wonderful mental and emotional“picture” of what life must have been like in various civilizations and at various times. Done in a style so wonderfully characteristic of Time-Life’s publications, these are over-sized“coffee table” type books full of impressive imagery. The pictures of the world’s greatest art and architecture alone are worth the cost of these books. But don’t get the impression that these volumes are“fluff” While a particular volume might not quite take the place as a university degree, the material is well-written, informative, and immensely intellectually gratifying, overview though it might be. This particular volume, Time-Frame 1500-600 B.C. is sub-titled“Barbarian Tides” The material is divided into a number of subjects which will give you an idea of the rich content; and i
