Lovely pair of antique war/ fighting clubs. One plainly african and with serious age as shown by its shape. Quality and stunning glossy patina. Its a ... morepleasure to swing and handle. The other is not as old, but im told it is from the pacific islands? This is a brutal club and is almost honed to a sharp edge, i shudder at the thought of what a hit from this club would do to someone. Again this is definately a fighting club and a nice example. Both are used. Original examples and show the typical wear and tear associated with being used as a blunt weapon. The african has some splitting to its head, the paddle shaped club is mint other than some impact damage to one part of the edge. Neither are recent'tourist' copys. The African one i would take to be late 1800's, the pacific one maybe ww2 era. Paypal only please. Payment required asap at auction end. Make sure you are happy with what you are bidding on before you bid. As due to the nature of these items i dont accept refunds.

Antique African Bamum Wood Birthing Chair
Antique African Bamum Wood Birthing Chair Wow. What a great looking piece. The wood and carving on this two piece chair are just very nicely done. The chair was represented as a Bamum birthing chair at the sale I picked it up at. There was a label to that effect on it as well. If you think it is something else, I would appreciate you contacting me as want to make sure the folks whom are looking at and buying items from my store are being provided with accurate information. The back of the chair has a man and woman on it with a man holding something in his hand above them. Even the sides of the back have a carved design in them. Bottom of the seat has the side profile of two people. Again one appears to be a man and one a woman. The seat piece has a pair of elephants on it and then a large lizard or some other critter on the piece of the seat ... morethat sits behind the back. There is a 2.5" crack or split in the seat by the one elephant's trunk. Have seen these pieces before. But first one that I have acquired to sell at an auction. Cannot speak to whether a reproduction or an original. You need to be the judge of that before you acquire it. On the back of the seat and back there is what appears to be a scrolled"7" carved into both pieces. The back piece is 41.25" long by 15.25" across. By 1-3/16" wide. The seat piece is 31.5" long, by 15" across, by 1-3/16" wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Hi! Thank you for visit my store. For your consideration One Antique beautiful African trade Wedding bead. Beads were produced early 1900. Over hundred years old! Bead is Very beautiful! These Gorgeous beads will make look your necklace amazing! Approx. 24.5 mm x 14.5 mm. Excellent condition for this age* PLEASE ADD ME TO YOUR FAVORITES LIST* Hi! My name is Elena. I’m collecting ancient beads from 1979. Most of my beads were found in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. To be precise they were found between Mary city(Turkmenistan) and Samarkand(Uzbekistan) That area in past was called Bactria. Nowadays there are a lot of ruins older than 2000 years in this region. I like ancient beads very much and want that other collectors will be able to obtain them without paying a lot of money. That is why my prices are very modest. I lived in Asgabat city(the ... morecapital of Turkmenistan) over 30 years. About 15 km from Asgabat there is Nisa– former residence of Alexander the Great. And capital of Parthia. In most cases the ancient beads. Not only played the role of jewelry but also the status of the person wearing them. You were able to tell the social status of an individual based on the beads they were wearing, while other used these beads as talismans protecting themselves against bad luck and the evil eye. Certain beads that have zigzagging lines are supposed to confuse the evil eye which would get lost in these lines. Beads that have the image of an eye try to just absorb the evil energy, and thus protect the person who is wearing them. Periodically the beads would be washed in salt water, because it is believe the salt water kills the negative energy. The image of the eye was sometimes very abstract and was more like an image of a flower, however sometimes the beads would correctly reflect the wearers eyes, including the color. Parthia kingdom. African Fertility Symbol Strung With Antique Trade Beads
The guy who sent these to me from Johannesburg. South Africa told me what tribe made the brass fertility kachina, but I cannot remember what it was for the life of me, and he is no longer in business. He said it's a fertility totem that young girls wear when they become of marry-able age in a certain tribe. It's about 3 inches tall, and it came to me strung with a gift of antique trade beads. The white and blue ones are called Dutch Delfts and are very, very old! The black ones I cannot say where they came from. It's all strung on a piece of leather cording and has a clasp, so it can be worn. I ask for an extra.90 for shipping for these. The.90 cents is so that I can provide you with a tracking number for your convenience.I do not profit on shipping and charge no handling fees. Thanks for looking. And have fun on ebay! AUTHENTIC ~ Pende Giwoyo Mask ~ Rare MASTERPIECE!! AFRICAN Antique
AUTHENTIC ~ Pende Giwoyo Mask ~ STRIKING MA STERPIECE! Description: Ethnic Group: Pende peoples Country: Democratic Republic of Congo Materials: Wood. Various pigments Approximate Age: Mid 20th Century( Condition: Excellent with a small amount of termite damage on back. Museum quality F rom a private collection This a very elegant and classically beautiful example of this type of Pende mask and it resembles somewhat the Giwoyo mask in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum Of Art. This mask is one of the best that I have ever seen. I do know beyond question that it is old. But I am unsure of the use factor, although to my eye there is some evidence. It was collected in mid 70's and is better than any I've seen made for the market in recent years, which tend to be rather ugly and small in size by comparison. Pair of antique fighting war clubs / club. African and Pacific Islands (Samoan?)
Lovely pair of antique war/ fighting clubs. One plainly african and with serious age as shown by its shape. Quality and stunning glossy patina. Its a pleasure to swing and handle. Payment required ... moreasap at auction end. Make sure you are happy with what you are bidding on before you bid. As due to the nature of these items i dont accept refunds.

Antique AFRICAN TRADE BEADS Koli Aggrey Segi Kori Cooked Venetian Blue Tubes
African Trade Beads 19 inches. 29 beads, longest about 35 mm(along top row with end chip) These are the genuine imitation"aggrey" beads, the legendary blue coral of the Medieval trans-Saharan trade. By the late 19th century, Europeans tried again to imitate the old one and came up with these blue tubes. This time. The Africans weren't deceived; they could spot the phonies because the fakes couldn't pass the fire test. Meanwhile, the fire transformed the beads into something that better approximated the genuine article. This string has both uncooked and cooked beads. Called"koli" among the Krobo and"segi" among the Yoruba. Both groups value these beads highly. The smooth darker-colored beads are unprocessed. The lighter, gnarly(corded) and sometimes dichroic ones are the cooked ones, which are some of ... morethe features of the original. Among all the fantastic tales associated with"African" beads. This is one of the true ones. The beads names are real and have not been modernized to appeal to some modern campfire romance. Check King Zongo's list for more famous"trade" beads. Combining lots saves on postage. Buy'em if you like'em!

Light uniform age toning and small minor spotting as seen, noticable rust spot in sky as seen[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting image. Sheet measures c. 6 1/2" W x 8 1/4" H. Antique African FireSpitter Mask 22"Lx10"Wx10"T
You are bidding on what I am told is an Antique African FireSpitter Mask 22"Lx10"Wx10"T. We have sent pictures to several different museums and based on the pics provided they feel this is original and dates from roughly the late 1800's to early 1900's. They put it in the category of good condition with obvious repairs to the piece. They of course could not guarentee the authenticity without having the piece in their possession. I am selling for a customer and he has assured me he has the paperwork but can not locate it at this time. You are buying as is with the same amount of information that was provided to me. If you get a chance please visit my store. Cj's small treasures, for other great Buy It Now items. I know nothing of its collectability. So please view the photo and bid accordingly. Antique African Trade Beads Glass Milifiori (9) Large about 10mm by 32mm
Antique Venetian milifiorie glass trade beads made for the African trade in the 19th century. There are nine(9) of them that are similar. They are handmade so are not perfectly matched: they range in size from 10 to 12 mm in diameter and are 32 to 34mm thru the holes. Some have angled ends to make a curve and some are straight. There are big chunks out of the ends of several. The third picture shows one of them. Most of them have some end damage. As old as these are and the fact that they have been worn is a harsh environment makes this less objectionable. I acquired these in the 1980's from an African trader and they have been stored since.

Antique African BENIN Bronze Tribal Art Sculpture NIGERIAN Princess' Head
Antique African BENIN Bronze Tribal Art Sculpture NIGERIAN Princess' Head Ref: BR220213 This is a large and impressive sculpture depicting a Benin Princess standing approximately 14 inches(35.5cm) high and weighing 3.9 kg. It was sculpted by hand and cast in bronze using the lost wax process. The people of Benin(now known as Nigeria) are descended from the Ife tribe and have been making bronzes in exactly the same way for many hundreds of years. I am not an expert; it is therefore quite difficult to date this piece accurately but I believe that it was probably made in the first half of the 20th century. Of course there is a distinct possibility that it could be considerably older. There are a few small holes here and there and a couple of larger ones on the head(see photos) There is also some oxidisation. Mainly on the face. Condition ... moreis otherwise good. P hotographs form a very important part of my description and therefore bidders are advised to study them carefully and to contact me for any additional information they may need. African warriors on elephants beautiful 1719 Mallet antique engraved print die Elefanten ELEFANS Issued Frankfurt. Germany, 1719 by Mallet Fine original antique engraved print. Made approximately 290 years ago. Printed in the early 18th century, on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. In Good+ to near VG or better condition. Light uniform age toning and small minor spotting as seen[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting image. Sheet measures c. 6 1/2" W x 8 1/4" H. Printed area measures c. 3 3/4" W x 5 1/2" H. 13991] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge ... moresplits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. Please look carefully and make your decision knowing this antique image is nice. But it is not in perfect"like new" condition. However, with whatever flaws it possesses, it remains entirely worthy of ownership and inclusion in any related collection. We feel it will prove very pleasing to its new owner. Alonzo"Lonnie" Clayton(1876- March 17. 1917) was an American jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing described by author Edward Hotaling, as"one of the great riders of the New York circuit all through the 1890s” and who holds the record as the youngest jockey to ever win the Kentucky Derby. An African American. Lonnie Clayton was born in Kansas City, Missouri, one of the nine children of Robert and Evaline Clayton. At age ten, his family moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas where he attended school and worked as a gofer for a hotel and as a shoeshine boy to help support his family. According to the Central Arkansas Library System's ... moreEncyclopedia of Arkansas History& Culture, a correspondent for the Thoroughbred Record wrote in 1896 that Clayton attended school and was considered"exceptionally bright. At age twelve the diminutive Lonnie Clayton left home and made his way north to Chicago's Washington Park Race Track where his brother Albertus was a jockey for prominent Thoroughbred horse racing stable owner. Lucky Baldwin. Lonnie Clayton was given a job as a stablehand and exercise rider for the Baldwin stable then the following year he moved east to the Clifton Race Track in New Jersey where in 1890 the fourteen-year-old began his professional riding career. Immediately successful, in 1891 at Morris Park Racetrack in The Bronx, New York, Clayton won the important Champagne Stakes aboard Bashford Manor Stable's two-year-old colt, Azra. On May 11, 1892 he rode Azra to victory in the Kentucky Derby which at age fifteen made him the youngest jockey in history to ever win the Derby. Antique 1880's Cast Iron Black Sailor Firedogs Andirons Americana African
Ant i qu e Black Americana Sailor Cast Iron Andirons For your consideration is a pair of antique cast iron black americana sailor an dirons. They each weigh 20 lbs. They stand 16" tall. 11" wide, and 22" long. T hey have not been altered or painted. The c ast iron is in good condition. One andiron has two hol es: a hole near the wa ist and one on the cheek. You can spot the holes by the white on that andiron. The last two pics show the small cracks or holes. Our guess is that the white stuff is high temp putty put on by the factory when the andirons were cast to secure those thin areas/cracks that happened during casting. Since they were sand casted. Its not an exact science and the thickness varies. Also the one with the putty on it bends to the back a little bit. I suspect the original paint burned off and thats why you can ... moresee the putty. The logs fit properly in the dogs. They could easily be painted again or oiled. But I chose to leave them in their original state. If it is not pictured. It is not included in the auction, unless otherwise noted. By bidding on this item. You are agreeing to our terms. ANTIQUE AFRICAN TRIBAL COPPER ARTS & ARTIFACTS Tool Weapon Mask Figure
Red Gold. Copper Arts of Africa” By Eugenia W. Herbert. Published by the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum in 1984. DISCUSSION: The catalog to a loan exhibition of African copper tools. DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 8.5”x11” 56 pages, black& white illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: Some wear. Spine head badly chipped, covers rubbed. This catalog has one of those very delicate“perfect” bindings-the pages were glued in rather than sewn, and with age there is more and more likelihood that opening the book too wide or roughly will cause the pages to"pop" out. Antique Tuareg Islamic Silver Bracelet North African Sahara Desert Mali Niger
Note: These are the lines of text in the slides. Massive Antique Tuareg Silver Bracelet(a) A superb massive antique Tuareg tribal silver bracelet. Mid 19th century, North Africa. The Tuaregs are predominantly Muslim, and were once nomads throughout the Sahara. The bracelet is hand hammered from a single massive piece of silver, with dramatic ends, culminating in truncated cube designs. African Tribal Rare Benin Antique Cast Bronze - Horseman warrior

Museum quality authentic artifact(circa mid- late 1800s) representing a Horseman warrior. The item is about 10" x 8 1/2 ta. In excellent antique condition. The Benin Empire dates back to prehistoric times. The political systems that were monarchial, were well established before the fourteenth century. The Rulers of Benin and Yoruba had close ties, and by the fifteenth century Benin became and important power in the region. With the backing of the monarchy selected artists of Benin developed a special style of sculpture vastly different from the rest of the region. They produced many fine bronze and or brass heads. Figurines, brass plaques, and large rectangular ... moremetal pictures, which were used to decorate the Oba's palace. The Benin Empire soon became the largest of the political systems of the Guinea Coast and toward the middle of the sixteenth century; the Oba ruled an area. Which spread from modern Lagos to the Niger Delta. Back in the late 19th century when the British forces invaded Benin City. They were overwhelmed to find artistic sculptures cast in brass/bronze. They could not believe the technological sophistication and exquisite beauty and quality of these objects. What they saw was a total contradiction to what many westerners believed or assumed about Africa. The above was too much for the British forces to bear and they swiftly concocted excuses- The sculptures must have been made by the Portuguese. The Egyptians, or the lost tribes of Israel" The so-called"Portuguese. Egyptian or Israeli" sculptures eventually found their way to Britain and later to other parts of Europe, where it was first classified Benin bronze sculpture, despite it being largely of brass. One 37 mm Antique Carnelian Stone bead African trade #C 1A
ONE Antique OLD Carnelian Stone Bead. Hand drilled toward to each other Bead size approx. 37 x 17.5 x 16.5 mm Please. Check pictures for details. This stone bead shows a beautiful original patina and wear. Expected corrosion and wear are a consequence of age and extended burial. Good condition for this age* PLEASE ADD ME TO YOUR FAVORITES LIST* Hi! Antique African Hand Forged Iron Hoe on Stand/Currency?/Excavated?
Antique African hoe; 10 1/2" H with stand. Hoes were very valued in farming areas of Africa due to their relationship to agriculture. Saved, and used as currency. I don't have much information about this piece that came from the collector below, but some of the things I bought from the estate had been excavated from sites near Mali on the Niger river. This piece has a very thick, wonderful rust patina, that looks like it had been buried for a long time, and a second axe head I bought at the same time also has a think blue patina and has obviously been excavated. This is a simple but beautiful object I think! Item came from the very large estate of African art that belonged to a long time Santa Fe collector and dealer who bought many of his things in the 1960's and 1970's when he had a gallery in Santa Fe. Much of what I bought ... morewas very old and many things rare. Please watch my store as I list more metal things I bought. Including sculptures, sword, knives, weapons and currency items. I will also be listing older trade beads and pygmy bark cloth drawings I was able to buy as well. gsrx_vers_486(GS 6.5.1(486)

Antique African Manilla Slave Bracelets Copper RARE
This is a pair of antique copper manillas. These were copper arm bracelets. In exchange for thes e ornaments. Once manufactured in Europe, African chieftains delivered people. Sometimes of their own tribes, into the hands of slave traders bound for the Americas. The smaller manilla measures 2 1/2" by 2 1/2" The larger measures 3 1/4" x 3" These I believe to be pretty rare. I have never seen any before. Included is an article from the December 1977 issue of National Geographic. Which tells about a ship that sank in the mid 18th century on the reefs of Bermuda. On this ship were found a treasure of these manillas. Thank you for looking and be sure to visit our store to view our other items! The following information about manillas was copied from Wikipedia. The Africans of each region had names for each variety of manilla. ... moreProbably varying locally. They valued them differently, and were notoriously particular about the types they would accept. Manillas were partly differentiated and valued by the sound they made when struck. A report by the British Consul of in 1856 lists five different patterns of manillas in use in. The Antony Manilla is good in all interior markets; the Congo Simgolo or'bottle-necked' is good only at Opungo market; the Onadoo is best for. Country between and New Kalabari; the Finniman Fawfinna is passable in Town and Qua market; but is only half the worth of the Antony; and the Cutta Antony is valued by the people at. The proliferation of African names is probably due more to regional customs than actual manufacturing specialization. The'Mkporo' is likely a Dutch or British manilla and the'Popo' is French. But the rest are examples of a single evolving Birmingham product. An important hoard had a group of 72 pieces with similar patination and soil crusting. Suggesting common burial. There were 7 Mkporo; 19 Nkobnkob-round foot; 9 Nkobnkob-oval foot; and 37 Popo-square foot. The lightest'Nkobnkobs' in the hoard are 108 and 114gm, while they are r

African Tribal Extremely Rare Large Antique Cast Bronze Gold Weight Scoop/Scale
Fine Ashanti Antique(circa late 1800s) Cast Bronze Artifact. From the old private collection of the internationally celebrated artist and ardent Africanist. This is a rare. Museum quality authentic artifact(circa late 1800s) representing a GOLD DUST MEASURING SCOOP/SCALE. The item is about 20" long. In excellent antique condition. Such SCOOPS/SCALES were necessary because gold dust was the principal means of exchange for several centuries in West Africa. Large Scoops/Scales were used for bulk gold dust trading. Small spoons used for lifting the gold dust from the gold dust boxes. The Ashanti name for spoon is"N'sawa. Ashanti gold weights are also named Mbramoo(sing. abramoo) This is an Ashanti gold weight. Used in the measuring of gold and gold dust, which was mined and panned in great quantities along the West Coast of Africa, ... morehence the name Gold Coast. Gold was used in the Ashanti kingdom, now known as Ghana, in trading with outsiders, making personal adornments, and as an internal currency. Ashanti weights such as these have a variety of accoutrements such as boxes. Spoons and balances used to hold or measure out gold dust. A full kit would include boxes, spoons, balance and around forty weights; this was known as a futoo and carried wrapped together in cloth. The futoo would then be put into a leather container or wooden box. Or if the owner was a wealthy man, a cast-brass kuduo box. These boxes, full of gold dust, could be buried with their owners and dug up again if needed, or hidden in times of trouble. The weight itself is made of bronze or brass.
