A strand of Czech molded beads found in Nigeria. West Africa. It is said they were made as souvenirs for those who made the pilrimage to Mecca. They were made in the early 1900's and used for the African trade. There are a total of fortry four beads. Twenty five of the beads have the stars and moon desing and the rest have Arabic writing on them. The pendant has a chip on each side but I have listed it because it has a different design on each side, which is very unusual. The beads measure in length 12 mm and in diameter 13 mm. Antique West African forged iron ARROWHEAD Hausa Bura poison barbs OLD 2 of 4
This auction is for an old hunting or military arrowhead from West Africa. This is an older example associated with the Bura culture of Niger but it is very similar to more recently made Hausa arrowheads. I am unsure of age as it is in excavated or relic condition. You may see similar arrow tips elsewhere on ebay(typically called"neolithic rat-tailed spears" Bura culture spears" or something similar) These arrowheads were mounted on simple bamboo shafts and were used with plant-derived poisons. Probably made from native iron, not scrap metal. The tip is forged into a leaf-shaped tip with twin chiseled barbs and a long, slightly tapered shank. Shank is twisted to hold poison. Mr Frankel was a notable collector of fine antiquities. In my opinion I believe this statue was carved in this manner and do not think the legs and base to be damaged. The patina is authentic but there is some small chips on the right arm. Both legs and the groin area. The height is approximately 13.75" There is an antique nail protruding from the right side of the statue's neck that was there when we obtained this piece. This does not appear to be a reproduction due to the Patina/ Rust all over the spear. From my own research. This appears closely resembled to African throwing spears closely related to the Zulu and Congo tribes. I'm not completely positive so I won't try to mislead you.
