Native American Indian Tomahawk Pipe Plains Tribe Circa 19th Century Here is a really neat Native American Indian Tomahawk Pipe. This piece came out of ... morethe Jonathan Winters Estate. This Tomahawk is likely from one of the Plains tribes. The blade on this tomahawk is from the mid 19th century. The haft looks to be a little later being Circa 1900 or so. The haft may not be original to the blade. It fits nicely but does have a little wiggle. It has a nice patina to it! Condition is good. It does show wear from age and use. The blade does have some writing on it and shows some wear. This piece does have a hole running through the haft and blade and is a pipe. Overall it looks and shows nicely and is a very neat piece! This Tomahawk measures approximately 20 3/8" long x 9 1/8" wide. This is a beautiful Plains Tomahawk pipe! Please see pictures before bidding and feel free to message us with any questions. A WONDERFUL MELOMN POT FORM WITH A VERY DISTINCTIVE CORN DESIGN RIM. NiCELY SIZED AND A GREAT EXAMPLE FROM THIS KNOWN ARTIST. Virginia Fragua, “Ponca ... moreFlower” is a full blooded Native American Indian. She is a member of the Corn Clan and was born into the Jemez Pueblo in 1961. She was inspired to continue the long lived family tradition of hand coiling pottery, using ancient traditional methods at the age of 16. Her inspiration came from her grandmother, Persingula M. Gachupin. They developed a very close relationship during this time. She taught her all the fundamentals of working with clay. Virginia also helped her mother paint her pottery when she was a child. Virginia specializes in hand coiled melon styled pottery.

Rare Huge Primitive Bark Painting Of American Indian Or Oceanic Or Aboriginal ?
Here for auction is a significant primitive bark painting. It contains all elements quality primitive art should have: imagination. Originality, and primitiveness. I bought it from an estate auction containing a nice collection of primitive art. If someone there know any information about the origin of this kind of paintings. Please let me know. Your knowledge will be greatly appreciated. Aboriginal Bark Painting Mangawila Arnhem Land Djawa Australia Night Heron Totem
Hi. You are bidding on an original Aboriginal bark painting by Mangawila. Son of Djala, of the Gupapuynga Tribe in the Milingimbi region of Arnhem Land. Djala was one of the most important tribal leaders in Arnhem Land. He passed down sacred myths to paint to his son. Mangawila also inherited his mother's totems and myths, and this painting shows the night heron surrounded by bush tucker, one of her myths. When I got this bark painting, which measures about 18 inches by 10 inches and is on eucalyptus bark, there was a brochure folded around the hanging wire. The brochure appears to be from the 1960's. It describes in detail the history of Australian Aboriginal bark painting. I do not know the age of this piece, but I am imagining that it was contemporaneous with the brochure. The introduction describes the early tradition and the ... morefact that Arnhem Land in Northern Australia is the area where the ancient tradition of bark painting continues to flourish. The technique is very detailed but after the bark is prepared certain natural clays and rocks are used to achieve the ochres and manganese. The subject matter can be based on stories passed down from father to son. In this case, the father was Djala, a tribal leader. I am just describing in brief what is described in detail in the brochure. The painting is in good condition. I think you will be pleased with condition and quality and original source. I can send the brochure with the bark painting. Thank you.

Vntg Australian Aboriginal Bark Painting Framed Under Glass
Up for auction is an Australian Aboriginal bark painting framed and under non-glare glass. This landscape has the silhouette of an emu standing in the foreground. There are minimalist black and white brush strokes used. The artist allows the colors and textures of the bark to carry much of the visual enjoyment of this piece of art. It was brought back to the U.S. as a souvenir probably about 30 years ago and I don't think there should be any concern about invasive insects at this point in time. It weighs 1/2 lb. Is 8 3/8" long and 6 1/2" tall. There is no sign of a signature of the artist. If one was to contact the Richmond frame shop, there is a chance someone there might be able to identify who painted it. Bark painting is an art form. Involving painting on the interior of a strip of. Bark paintings were produced for instructional and ceremonial purposes and were transient objects. Today, they are keenly sought after by collectors and public arts institutions. The designs seen on authentic bark paintings are traditional designs that are owned by the artist. Or his"skin" or his clan, and cannot be painted by other artists. In many cases these designs would traditionally be used to paint the body for ceremonies or rituals, and also to decorate logs used in burials ceremonies. While the designs themselves are ancient, the medium of painting them on a piece of flattened bark is a relatively modern phenomenon, although there is some evidence that artists would paint designs on the bark walls and roofs of their shelters. The modern form of bark paintings first appeared in the 1930s. When missionaries at and asked the local people to produce bark paintings that could be sold in the cities of and. The motives of the missionaries were to earn money that that would help pay for the mission. And also to educate white Australians about Yolngu culture(Morphy 1991) As the tr

Exceptionally competent precision dot painting Australian Aboriginal ? Folk Art
Exceptionally competent precision dot painting. I believe to be of Aboriginal origin. The medium used is very matt in it's finish so I presume it to be a form of bodycolour or gouache or possibly even Acrylic in nature. The painting is painted on board as indicated in the photographs. The hanging wire suggests it hangs as indicated in the first photograph. But I've photographed it in various positions to give an overall impression. There is no sign of a signature on the painting itself but on the reverse. Painted in black, is what looks like be 111? I don't know to what this may refer. The painting is in excellent condition as indicated by the photographs. I have no idea as to when it was painted but it appears to have been executed by a very competent hand. Size Framed 16 by 11 inches.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*05e54c%3E-1453197a5d8-0x105-

VERY EARLY KIMBERLEY BARK PAINTING JACK KAREDADA? ABORIGINAL ART
VERY EARLY KIMBERLEY BARK PAINTING JACK KAREDADA? ABORIGINAL ART VERY EARLY KIMBERLEY BARK PAINTING JACK KAREDADA? This old bark painting was purchased at a local antiques auction in perth. It is at least 40 years old and painted in ochre and Kaolin on a smalll piece of thickish bark. From what I have read early Kimberley barks were often small and from my research the simple stick figures are most often often associated with Karedada family. Of the Karedada’s it was only Jack that painted on pieces of bark this shape. It is only attributed to him as there is no name on the back and it is my best guess. Some pigment loss and some warping of the bark and a stable crack. The painting is in the Woodland style. It is signed& dated LR corner. It measures 12" x 15 1/4" framed. The painting is in terrific condition with a 2 mm dot of white to the side of the breast of the eagle in the blue ground. It may be a dot of loss or an under paint. It is so insignificant but mentioned for the sake of accuracy. Artist info: Noel Ducharme. 1921-1988) an Ojibway was born in Nipigon, Ontario and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was a self-taught artist who painted in the Woodland style. His paintings, carvings, and silkscreen prints were inspired by the legends told to him by his widowed mother while working together ... moreon the traplines. He had a lifelong interest in drawing and painting but turned to art seriously after an accident in 1967 on a Great Lakes freighter left him with a broken hip. In 1973, he received the top award at the McLaughlin Art Gallery show in Ottawa, presented a painting to Queen Elizabeth II, and had a solo exhibit at the Kar Gallery, Toronto, Ontario. Ducharme also exhibited with Norval Morrisseau, Carl Ray, Roy Thomas, and Joshim Kakegamic at the the Thunder Bay National Exhibition Centre, Thunder Bay, Ontario, in 1977. Large Old Aboriginal Bark Painting Unique "XRay" Style Lobster, Turtle and Skate
Large Old Aboriginal Bark Painting Unique"XRay" style depicted lobster. Turtle and skate 43.5 x 17 inches This is an outstanding aboriginal bark painting. It is 43.5" long and 17" wide. The scene depicts lobsters. Skates and turtles in an"XRay" style unique to the aboriginals. The bark is from the local gum trees that are stripped and dried. The condition of the piece is excellent. I have owned it since 1977. When I bought it in Alice Springs, Australia while on a six week trip around the continent. It was purchased from an aboriginal art community museum which exhibited local artists from around the territory. The original side panel branch straighteners are included. These keep the bark panel from warping inwards. This painting is very skillfully detailed on gum bark carefully rubbed with ground ochre to provide ... morea smooth surface. Then. The designs were painted with traditional earth ochres which are prepared by grinding. You will notice that more than two colors have been used. These aboriginal works are linked to the ceremonial song cycle dances which are part of the complex mythology of"dreamtime" spirit ancestors in the mystical past history of aboriginal culture.

1960 Aboriginal Bark painting Rangga Fish totem
