Description This is a nice antique French door that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian mansion. It is made of pine and is currently unapinted. It is a double swinging door and the lower hardware is intact. The upper hardware is missing the pin. 4 pieces of glass are missing but the mullions are intact. It has both push plates. It needs sanded and restained or painted because the old finish is uneven. It measures 30 inches wide. By 79.5 inches tall. It's 1 and 3/8 inches thick. Overall. It is in decent condition. These huge teak château doors dating to around 1850c were recently removed from the French Embassy in Jakarta when new security doors were added. The front boasts a grand 19th Century appearance which alone is impressive enough. However when you turn to see the back of the doors you find and incredible pair of life size paintings of what is believed to be a King and Queen. The detail is just remarkable. And apparently painted in real gold although this has not been tested. Large antique doors without the interesting background and without the stunning artwork alone are rather sort after. The shelves are trimmed in dentil molding below. The lower raised panels are trimmed in ornate moldings. They measure 47 inches wide by 87.25 tall and are 2.25 thick. The glass is a clear with different textures and a great design. Each door has approx 142 jewels! They were originally standard double entrance doors. At some point the knobs were removed and holes were patched. The then installed double action hinges to swing back and forth. Push bars were added at the same time as those hinges. The door is made of solid pine, and has a less common arrangement of 10 windows. 1 lite is missing; 1 is made of Plexiglass and is broken; and 8 of the lites are intact, original, wavy glass. We could replace the broken lite and add a lite in the empty window with 2 pieces custom cut from our collection of old glass for $25. Hardware: The door is equipped with a spring-loaded. Double-action hinge and 1 hinge cover. However, it's missing the other cover, 2 push plates, and pivot hinge for the top of the door. The door doesn't have a lock. Weak, and soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Also. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/16" thick and provide ... morestrength and stability to the door. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. It’s made of solid pine and features an arrangement of 15 true-divided, wavy glass lites. We repaired, refinished, and equipped the door with an old lockset and mailbox. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The door was found with its original finish, 1 broken lite, 1 deadbolt hole, 1 broken mullion, 9 pieces of broken molding, nail holes, and equipped only with a mortise lock and mail door. Since then, we’ve stripped the original finish, replaced the broken lite, made and added molding, patched the deadbolt hole, and filled the nail holes(see photos under"Prior to refinishing" A few months ago. A customer bought the door and had us cut the width ... morefrom 35 7/8" to 35 1/8" and refinish it to match the woodwork in his home. Unfortunately, the customer did the measuring himself, and mis-measured. The door was actually perfect at 35 7/8" but after cutting it, it was no longer usable for him. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. I have had these doors for over 20 years stored in my heated garage. Planed on using this unique set of doors in my home but my remodeling projects never allowed me to use them in a location where they could be viewed properly& appreciated. Looking at the wood grain. I believe they are oak… Glass panels are in Very Good condition- No Chips. No Cracks, No pieces missing. There is NO putty or glazing around the Glass Panels. Glass panels are firmly& solidly attached with wood trim around each piece. There are No rattles or loose glass panels. Glass Panels are a Frosted Snowflake design. It provides privacy& allowslight to shine through. Door are in Very Good Condition- There are NO… Cracks. Chips, or Pieces of wood missing on either door& there is NO dry rot or decay. Doors are already pre-notch for hinges… 3 notches on each ... moredoor. Top/ Middle/ Bottom. Each door is 24 inches wide…however when they are closed the overall width is 47.50 inches. This is due to a rabbit that is cut into one door to allow for proper/ normal/ overlap closing. The Height of each door is 95.50 inches. Each door is 1.75 inches thick. Each Snowflake Glass panel is 15inches tall and 9 inches wide. These are Heavy doors… Each door weighs 50 lbs. Handles are Brass…They do need a good cleaning. On one door there are two brass handles which operate the pivot locking devices at the top and bottom. When you turn the top handle a square metal bar approximately ¼ inch thick will rise out of the top of the door and would go into a hole that you would have drilled into your wood frame. The latches appear to have been replaced and the door knob is loose and only has 1 side to it. But other than that they are great. They were pulled from the interior of a beautiful showroom in Austin Tx.
