Antique Primitive Repousse Wood Doors ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE
Two oak cabinet door panels salvaged from building in North East by collector when he was a child. Each measures approximately 14" x 15 1/2" There is some evidence of a mirror or glass that was in one of the doors. Minor pieces of carved detail missing. Each door weighs just a few lbs. HEAVY CARVED POLYCHROME SOLID WOOD SET ANTIQUE CHINESE DOORS GATE FRAME CORBELS
Talk about an unusual Charleston estate auction find. here is an incredible heavy carved polychrome solid wood Chinese door or heavy gate with a cross beam and side beam frame as well as the heavy raised panel doors with all their original iron fittings. This is an old Chinese door and is extremely heavy as well as somewhat primitive on the unfinished sides of the beams. The polychrome paint is quite worn but is still quite evident and adds so much character to an already gorgeous detailed yet functional heavy door. I have included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design. Quality, condition and overall beauty of this delightful antique door. Unfotunately I do not know any additional provenance on the door or have any definitive explanation as to how it arrived in our fair city, though with it being a port ... morecity and with the sheer size and weight, my guess is whenever it came to the US, it was most assuredly by boat long ago. The standing door frame itself is 78 inches tall by 68 inches wide at it's widest points. At beams which extend and is constructed of huge beams 4 1/2 inches wide.The inside doorway entrance(inside the standing frame) is 63 1/2 inches tall and 39 1/4 inches wide, with a bottom crossbeam one would have to step over to enter. In addition there is a large crossbeam I believe goes overhead, hooking into the corbels, 68 inches long by 8 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches thick. There are also two side beams each 73 1/4 inches long by 6 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches thick and the two corbels, carved from blocks roughly 21 1/2 inches by 12 inches by 8 inches. The two raised panels doors, which shut from behind the door frame, are 74 1/2 inches tall and very heavy, ready for locking out the enemy. Again, this buy-it-now is for ONE door. Most of the woodwork in my house, including the floors, is pine, so I'm assuming these doors are pine. Beautiful scalloped carving surrounding the glass. One door has a significant chip on the top inside corner, shown in one photograph. Otherwise, minor nicks and scratches, overall in good shape. I believe if you stripped these, patched and finished, they will look beautiful. And the original wavy glass is gorgeous. The doors are not perfectly square, so I will give the range of measurements. Double doors salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The doors are made of solid poplar and are finished on both sides. Each door has a Victorian style arrangement of 5 raised panels. Notice the lovely, chamfered edges with lark's tongue detail on the sides of the panels and the beautiful, stepped molding at the top and bottom of each panel-what wonderful accents! Up for Auction are three Amazing mahogany& walnut cabinet doors. Two doors have a center panel that is antique pressed(I believe walnut) wood with crotched book matched walnut veneer panels above and below. The third door has three panels of crotch book matched walnut veneer panels. The doors are constructed of mahogany(spanish cedar) with walnut trim. The backing is a smooth plywood cabinet grade. These doors are a custom design incorporating salvaged antique materials. Reclaimed and new wood from Whitmer Design Studio. These doors have never been used and are new although they incorporated antiques materials in the design. They have not been finished- except for the antique panel that was kept in its found state. The two antique paneled doors are prepped for SOSS 216E invisible hinges- see pictures. This auction does include 2 pairs ... moreof the SOSS hinges to mount(2) doors. Antique Gothic Glass Panel Church Doors Offered here is this Antique Double Gothic Church Door with vintage glass panels. This door came from a small town in South/Central Texas and was a salvaged purchase. It is Gothic to Renaissance in style and will need to be refurbished since the wood has some scratches. Nicks and miscellaneous small repairs on them. The glass looks to be 1940’s or older with four panels replaced by a different style of glass. These four replaced pieces of glass panels have a starburst/snowflake type pattern while the remainder has a mottled goose-bump style. There are 30 glass panels in total on the two doors. It measures: 68”W x 7’T. A finish carpenter would have to make them conform to your city’s code ordinances as well as bring out the true beauty of these unique doors. I do not know for sure what the wood is made ... moreof. But most likely its mahogany. With a little elbow grease these doors could be brought back to their former glory and history. While the wood has normal wear on them, they remain in good condition and were recently used as office doors. There is one small crack in one panel of the glass. All the hardware is original. We are unable to determine the exact wood type for the core and the 1/8" veneers on the exterior side of each door. However. We have narrowed each one down to either Birch or Cherry. We do know that the 3/16" veneer on the interior side of each door is Quarter Sawn Oak. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/8" 3/16" thick and provide strength and stability to each door. I have a bag of mounting hardware that came with them. I am uncertain if every piece is there. I believe it is a complete original set of installation hardware. Photo 10. Both doors do have the top and bottom swing pegs in place. Photo 11. Both doors measure the same. Down the middle of the door. From the top of the crest to the bottom measures 43 inches. On the hinge/mounting side from top to bottom is 40 1/2 inches. The inside where the doors would meet measures from top to bottom 38 inches. The carvings are hand done with beautiful Louis XV period details. These doors were originally from an armoire and would make perfect pantry or closet doors. They are in very good antique condition with various minor chips. Scratches and cracks consistent with their 200+ years of existence. The doors are not square at the bottom but are hardly noticable and there is some damage to some of the metalwork on one door(see photos) T hey come with a complete set of 4 solid bronze hinges: both the parts that mount to the doors and the parts from the door frame. These veneers are 1/16" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, soft wood. New ... morepine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have.
