Wood Oval Beveled Glass Entry Door
This is a wood oval beveled glass entry door. I measures 31 3/4" x 78 1/2" x 1 3/4" It has a 1 1/4" oval beveled glass window. It is painted on the exterior side and has never been stained or painted on the interior. It is in good overall condition with typical dings for its age. It does not come with hardware. The hardware is being sold in a separate auction. The door was originally set installed with surface hinges and has a right hand swing. I also have a second matching door that has some condition problems. If you are interested in the second door. I would sell it for $150.00 plus s&h for it. The door has a solid pine core covered with 1/16" thick, birch veneers, and has an impressive arrangement of 15, true-divided, beveled glass lites. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, and soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Also. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/16" thick and provide ... morestrength and stability to the door. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. Condition: About half of the upper rail and half of the lock stile on the exterior side is missing veneer. There are also a couple of other spots where the veneer is loose or missing(see photos) The loose veneer is easy to re-secure. And filling in the empty spots with filler or any veneer would be simple and inexpensive. However, that would make the door only suitable to repaint. If you would like to refinish the door, filling in the empty spots with veneer that would match the existing, surrounding veneer will be more challenging, and more costly. There are a few chips in along the upper edges of the door(see photos) The door may look in bad shape, but it's actually quite strong, sturdy, and structurally sound. The doors were previously used as a"swinging doors. which meant that they had spring-loaded, pivot hinges installed in their bottom corners, and swung both forward and backward like a saloon style door. The doors no longer have their pivot hinges or push ... moreplates. However, just because they were used as a swinging doors, doesn't mean that you have to. We could cut off the rounded sides and trim the doors to 26"W, or we could cut and then add to the sides to widen to 28" or wider. We could also cut the height of the door to just above of the area where the hinge was installed(which would make each door 82 1/2" Or if you need the height or need it taller, we could plug the mortised area and even add to it.
