Penn Antique Restoration. 29"x79"x1.75" Antique Solid Oak Door w/2 Vertical Panels. Handsome. Antique, interior door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Ohio. The door has a solid oak core covered with 3/16" thick, white oak veneers. The door has a light stain and worn finish on all sides. There are 2, long, vertical, recessed panels on both sides of the door. Also, please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are almost 1/4" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door could be sanded and refinished several times before the door would need to be re-veneered. Hardware: Although the photos show some hardware installed; the door doesn't come equipped with any hardware. However. Both doors have a beautiful arrangement of 10, true-divided, beveled glass lites. The doors were previously used as a"swinging doors. which meant that they had spring-loaded, pivot hinges installed in their bottom corners, and swung both forward and backward like a saloon style door. The doors no longer have their pivot hinges or push ... moreplates. However, just because they were used as a swinging doors, doesn't mean that you have to. We could cut off the rounded sides and trim the doors to 26"W, or we could cut and then add to the sides to widen to 28" or wider. We could also cut the height of the door to just above of the area where the hinge was installed(which would make each door 82 1/2" Or if you need the height or need it taller, we could plug the mortised area and even add to it. Hardware and door knobs are original and in place. The screws are also included. The stationary door pins are intact and function. The surrounding wood is in great condition w/ an original mahogany stain.There is some scuffing and superficial discoloring at the bottom of the doors. The doors measure 30" x 80" w/ a 5.5" wood frame around the leaded glass centers. The doors came from an estate on the Detroit River that was being torn down in the early 1980's. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir, and is finished on one side and painted blue on the other. There are 5 raised panels on both sides of the door. Notice the chamfered(routed) edges with lark's tongue detail bordering every panel-what great Victorian style details! The door was converted at some point into a"swinging door. which means that it was installed with a spring-loaded, pivot hinge installed in it's bottom corner, and swung both forward and backward like a saloon style door. The door no longer has it's pivot hinge or push plates. However, just because it was used as a swinging door, doesn't mean that you have to. Oak is a very dense wood and the door would've warped long ago if it weren't for its veneers. The door has a rare design featuring 4 recessed panels: 1 square panel on top and 3 long. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Circa 1910's Solid Core Wood& Mirror Interior Door- Stripped& Ready for finish& install! This door came out of our 1912 Wilmette home we are restoring(North Shore of Chicago. IL) We had all of our doors stripped and refinished. Unfortunately, this one was from a master closet door that was"repositioned" during the restoration and no longer fits in the room. We paid more for the stripping alone than my Buy It Now price! It is solid wood core door with excellent wood grain with no knots like you see today plus it has its original mirror. With the exception of Door#6, which has recessed panels, each door has raised panels on both sides. Please note that heartpine is the non-living. Core of a pine tree, and not the soft, outer, living sap-wood. Since it takes 30 years for a pine tree just to develop just 1" of heart ... morestock it is rarer. Harder, more durable, more insect& rot resistant, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and is much more valuable than the cheap, pine lumber that is commonly found at most hardware stores.
