If the quantity above falls below 4, this indicates that 1 or more doors sold. 4 Lovely doors salvaged from old homes in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The doors are made of solid pine and have large glass lites. One of the doors(Door#3) has plexiglass installed instead of glass. Unfortunately. We do not have any old glass this size, however, we could order a new glass lite(i.e. beveled, tempered leaded, stained, etc. and install it- email us for a quote. Hardware: The doors are currently not equipped with any hardware. However. W e have a good selection of period hardware in our eBay store. And tons more in our physical store. If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block ... moreof wood.see"Modification" below. Condition: Door#1: On the exterior. There is a large break in the lock housing. There is a break in the bottom hinge mortise. The bottom of the hinge stile is chipped. There is a decent sized scratch near the middle portion if the hinge stile. The molding below the glass lite has small chips and cracks in it. There are pieces of wood missing from each hinge mortise(See Photos) Door#2: Each of the corners on each side of the door are chipped. On the exterior. The molding on the bottom and right sides of the glass are chipped. The bottom rail has a few scratches in it. Door#3: There is a 1/4" gap between the hinge stile and bottom rail. There are scratches and and chips along the bottom rail. On the exterior. Some pieces of the molding around the glass is broken and missing. On the interior, the bottom of the hinge stile is chipped. Door#4: The door's height was unevenly cut by 1/4" at some point in time. Most likely to accommodate for a warped floor or settling foundation. The door has a solid pine core covered with 1/8" thick, red oak veneers, and has 1 impressive, full-length window. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, and soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Also. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/8" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. ... moreThe door could be sanded and refinished several times before the door would need to be re-veneered. 10' Tall Glass Lite Window and Door Set from 1926 Western Union Building in NOLA
This is a fairly amazing and unique set of very thick and tall old pine windows and French doors. The set was salvaged from the 1926 Western Union building at 334 Carondelet St. in New Orleans in preparation for a planned condo conversion. These doors and windows are heavy. Commercial grade, and unusually tall. They are in excellent condition and have been stripped and cleaned. The entire set contains 21 separate pieces. As follows: 11 windows– 18 lites each: 47 ¼” x 123” x 2 ¼” thick 2 pair French doors– 12 lites each: 27 ¾” each of 4) x 123” x 2 ¼” 1 pair French doors– 8 lites each: 35” each) x 94 ½” x 2 ¼” plus: 1 rectangular transom with fan design: 23 ¾” x 71 ¾” 1 pair French doors– 8 lites each: 32” each) x 94 ½” x 2 ¼” plus: 1 rectangular transom with fan design: 23 ¾” x 65 ¾” ... moreWhen the transom windows are added to the top of the shorter French doors. Double-action hinge and 1 hinge cover. However, it's missing the other cover, 2 push plates, and pivot hinge for the top of the door. The door doesn't have a lock. 36"x84"x2" New Arts & Crafts Exterior Entry Oak Wood Door Lead Glass Lite Window
Penn Antique Restoration. 36"x84"x2" New Arts& Crafts Oak Entry Door w/Leaded Glass Window. After years of restoring old doors and building custom doors for customers. We finally built a door based on our own design. It has a solid wooden core made of antique pine, and is veneered with ¼” thick red oak veneers. The window is made of old glass and new came. Many people have a stigma for“veneers” and that is mostly due to contemporary furniture. Which is built of mostly composite wood or high density cardboard, and covered with a paper-thin veneer that may or may not be real wood. Veneers have been used for millennia for the purpose of providing strength and stability to construction. Because oak is a dense hardwood, it is highly susceptible to warping. About 1% of all of the oak doors that we’ve come across have been ... moretruly, solid oak doors with no veneers, and most were warped as a result. The veneers used on this door are ¼” thick, which is the same thickness as the veneers used on most of the high-end, oak doors built during the late 1800’s. The sides of the door have ½” thick veneers, which conceal the 5/8” diameter dowels that we used to hold the rails and stiles together. The top and middle rails have 3, 5” L dowels and the bottom rail has 4 dowels. Most antique doors have decorative embellishments on the exterior side only. And the interior side is plain. We wanted our door to have plenty of details on both sides. The half-length lite is surrounded by a border consisting of 3 fluted pilasters, 2 corner blocks with routed grooves, and 1 stepped ledge under the window. There are 2 raised panels below with routed designs similar to the corner blocks above the glass. We made the window by hand by cutting pieces of glass from old windows. And shaping the came around them. We“cemented” the glass to the came, and added foam weather sealer around the edges of both sides of the glass to improve insulation. And had 2 internal slide bolts installed in the top and bottom its current hinge stile. It was later used as a single door, and as you could see from the photos, a lock was installed in the opposite side from the slide bolts.
