Up for auction is an all original rare antique 1911 Corbin Model 4 door closer that came off a antique doctor's door. It is in nice condition for its age. Has some light rusting. Areas of paint on door attachment pieces, all moving pieces still function and has the original Corbin plate on the front. The plate says Corbin and has three different patent dates on it: June 7 1910, Aug 16 1910 and March 28 1911. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. Hardware: Aside from ... morea mortise lock. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine, and has a Victorian style, 4 raised, vertical panel arrangement. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Hardware: The door comes with a pair of glass knobs. That we were unable to remove, and a rim lock. The hinges will need to be replaced. It measures 36 inches wide. By 81.5 tall and is 1.75 inches thick. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good scrubbing but will clean up nicely. There is a mail slot at the bottom and a hole from a deadbolt. There are small holes from curtain hardware.
