Description This is a great piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian home. It is made of a hardwood that I can't identify and is painted on both sides. The front has a pediment with spoon carvings above the glass. Below the glass is a shelf trimmed in dentil molding with a corbel in the middle. There are raised panels at the bottom. The back is plain with a raised panel. The glass is not original as it is not beveled. Some hardware needs replacing. It measures 35.75 inches wide. 82 inches tall and is 2 inches thick. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. It has 2 deadbolt holes. There is a mailslot at the bottom. Antique ornate carved door surround. Spectacular! columns and glass transom!
Door surround from 19th century! This is a very rare find. An intricately carved door surround from the late 1800's. The detail is over the top- many hand carved details! The surround is complete except there is some sort of vertical piece that used to be between the transom and the columns/ door frame. This can be replicated by a skilled carpenter. The original glass is all intact. The dimensions are: Top arch piece is 25.5 in. H x 102.75 in. W x 8.5 in. D Arch window- 74 pcs. of glass 20 in. H x 83 in. W x 24 in. D 2 columns are 91.75 in. Its most striking elements are the beautiful glasswork; fabulous original hardware including doorknob, rose, key plate, and strikeplate; and the truly unique carved, bas-relief ribbons on one side of the door. An architectural ... morehistorian estimated its manufacture date as sometime between 1900 and 1910. Based on its construction. It does show wear from its age and several moves. There are two hairline cracks in the glasswork. Several repaired dings to the wood window frame, and the wood joins in that frame have parted slightly. It appears as though the hinge side may once have been drilled for the lock mechanism, then refilled. The finish is alligatored, and there are scratches that range from faint to fairly deep. White paint overspray is present on the big brass hinges. All of these are shown in the pictures; please examine them carefully. The original brass hardware is included and is absolutely stunning. These were originally the interior panels surrounding a pair of French doors in a Stylish 1930s Town House in Toulouse. Each panel is in 2 parts and features a classic 1920s/30s Art Deco Bouquet of Flowers Featuring Roses amongst others in a basket. The detailing as can be seen is beautiful. There are as usual the odd areas of wear and a few small flaws here and there but nothing that detract from their beauty. They have a lovely Patina and have been waxed with beeswax to preserve their finish. Each panel measures approx. 16 3/4" wide x 21" tall. It is constructed of heart pine and is in very nice vintage condition and bears the original porcelain knob and escutcheon plate. It measures 33 ¾”w x 87 ½”h x 2” thick. Opening for glass 22” w x 46 1/2”h. It features carved bullseye and scalloped detail on one side(lower left bullseye has some damage- see last photo) and raised panels on the other.
