This is a pair of oak architectural columns that were salvaged from a residence in Calumet. MI c1900. They are in excellent condition and are 5 ½”w at the bottom and taper up to 5”w at the top x 62 ½” h. They weigh 22 lbs. each and are hollow. They cleaned up beautifully and are ready to install. There are a few minor nicks and splits that are not notable, but I have to mention. I carefully cleaned and polished these– the rest is up to you! We are pleased to offer this VINTAGE pair of salvaged. Architectural columns. The pair were used indoors in a formal dining room and we salvaged during the home's remodel. The columns are about 30 to 40 years old. They are heavy, solid(not hollow) and feature a BEAUTIFUL MAHOGANY finish. They are Art Deco in style and are 8 sided(octagon shaped) They have a fabulous, Art Deco styled"Skyscraper" design which is featured on both the top and bottom caps. The caps are fixed and are not removable. The octagon pattern is raised at the point of attachment between the two sections(picture 3) The columns are in very good condition with no rot or broken/missing pieces. They do have some surface scuffs and scratches but these are fairly minor and can be sanded and refinished. The attachment screws are in place for you as well. Antique Architectural Salvage Weathered Column Cap - Christmas Tree Pedestal
If this column cap could talk. I would be willing to bet it has more sordid stories and harrowing tales than Rob Ford. This exquisitely ornate, gorgeously weathered column cap is a magnificent piece of historic salvage. Chipped, peeling paint unearth the gritty texture hidden beneath the bone white exterior. The imperfect details, like cracked corners and a slight lean, give it character, while the flourishing curliques and imposing European charm belie what must have been a wealthy past in a building of grand stature. Shockingly, this isn't as heavy as you might expect(around 20 lbs, easy enough for this admittedly weak-armed shopkeep to lift) which makes it easy to repurpose for plenty of uses. My first thought was that this would be an incredible, one-of-a-kind pedestal for a Christmas tree, either real or fake(though you might need ... moreto slip something underneath one side to make it a bit more stable and cure the lean) However, if you have a bigger table, it would make an incredible centerpiece on its own, and could easily be accented with a candelabra, tealights, or bottlebrush trees. Year round, use it as a plant stand, small accent table, or just as salvage-chic decor. Measures approximately 14.5" wide. 15" tall. Antique Vintage Victorian Wood Architectural Porch Post Column Spindle 90 inches
This auction is for one(1) antique vintage victorian wooden architectural porch spindle post/column. It was removed from our 1896 Victorian home as part of a remodeling project. I have no idea in what year this particular post was put on the porch. Meaning no way for me to know whether it was an original or a replacement somewhere down the line. I only know the year the house was built, and that the post was here when we bought it. It is about 90 inches tall, and the squared-off portions above and below the spindle section are 3.5" x 3.5" The bottom of the post has a slight break-off look instead of it being sawed off neatly(see picture) but this is only a couple inches and could easily be sawed off flat. Measuring from the top to the point where the spindle begins is about 19.5" in length(height) and the spindle part is 40" ... morelong before the squared-off part starts again. I've also included pictures of the house when it was still installed before we removed it. Locals claim to have seen in intact in the late 1940s. near where the column was found there are old houses and old stores from the 1800's. known for a fact, one of the houses was built in 1843. all the chips in the column are very smooth from erosion, has an ancient ruins look and feel to it. This is a nice pair of carved and fluted mahogany post with urn finials. They measure aprox. 61 1/2" high x 3 1/2" in diameter and 3" in diameter at the bottom. The fluted portion measures 36" high. They were most likely from a canopy bed as the finials can be removed. The top 12" piece can be easily removed which we will most likely do for shipping purposes. There is a slot on the bottom on one side which you can see in the pictures. Other than some nicks. Dings and rubs they are in good condition. Ancient Antique? Hand Made architectual cornerstone! CHEVAUCHEE RARE!!
I've got a good one here folks. It is a corner stone. Architecturally designed for the exterior of a property. This one is extremely rare with the markings"CHEVAUCHEE" on the lower front. The picture tells the story of a man on a horse; involved in a raid. This type of raid is called Chevauchee. And the definition is worth the research. In this particular image the man appears to be overpowered by the underdog. With cannon balls or stones. Very detailed. And extremity old. From the long hrs of research completed, I found this piece was more than likely to originate in France. It ended up here where it sits in Detroit. I believe this piece to be at least 150 years old. And can possibly be as old as 3 or 400 years. The stone does have some modern day tar on it covering a portion of the word Chevauchee. We think it was salvaged in the early 70’s and has been stored in a garage. It has fantastic carving and details. The Newel Post that is 26 ½ inches tall. Base is 9 ½ inches across and the top is 6 ½ inches across on the largest side. There are a couple of chipped places. One is at the very top and is about 2 ½ inches and the other is 1 ½ inches on a top rung. VINTAGE NEWEL POST. SOLID ONE PIECE WOOD TURNING ACORN TOP FINIAL. THIS UNIT DATES TO POSSIBLE 1800'S. IT IS OF OLD PINE. A COMPLETE ONE PIECE TURNING INCLUDING THE. ACORN FINIAL. IT APPEARS TO HAVE ONLY HAD ONE COAT OF PAINT IN ITS LIFE TIME. IT IS CHIPPED. ETC. VERY NORMAL FOR THE AGE. WOULD BE VERY EASY TO REMOVE ALL PAINT IF WANTED. THE HOUSE STOOD BY THE RAILROAD TRACK IN A SMALL TOWN NEAR US. IT WAS ALLOWED TO GO DOWN HILL FOR YEARS. ROOF WAS BAD AND MOST INTERIOR ITEMS WERE DESTROYED. SOMEHOW THIS SURVIVED. FATIGUED FRENCH FINDS This is a gorgeous antique French 19 th century salvaged bronze plinth or column. Fabulous if you have an item that you wish to mount. Or great on its own for display purposes. Please study the photographs for a visual description; I have taken shots of all the angles. It stands approximately 4¼” tall and is 5¼” wide by 2½. Some of the gilding has rubbed off giving it that fabulous Fatigued French time worn look- a real treasure. There is a small screw hole in the top. Where the previous treasure was mounted. Antique Vintage Newel Post#1 Hardwood Staircase Turned Corner Post Walnut? This is one of two antique newel posts that were removed from a building in Pa. This newel post is quite heavy weighing 26 lbs unpacked. It is also very tall@60¼' tall. You can see by the cut outs at the bottom and by the placement marks of the prior railings. That it was installed where the stairway turned. This post could be used in another stairway that is shorter by cutting off a section at the bottom. I have shown the measurements alongside the post in the photos below. I have also shown a small section where the natural wood shows. It is a hard wood and has close grains, like a walnut or other hard wood. The wood is not soft. But dense. It has signs of age, a slight crack or two, nothing that would keep it from being reused.
