The ... morenewel post stands almost 5' high. It is approximately 57" from floor to top of finial. It is in three pieces, a square base with a rounded stand, the rounded post and the top finial. The largest part of the square base is approximately 17.75"x17.75" There are threaded rods on the inside that connect the base and post together, the finial sits on top. There are specks of white paint around the newel post. I will let the buyer decide how to remove it. This newel post is meant to be at the bottom of a staircase. The railing is 12' long and approximately 5.5" wide. It is also made of solid mahogany. The bottom of the railing mounts flush onto the newel post. The top of the railing has a hump back that turns into a corner and mounts to the wall. There are a few places where the edges on the bottom have partially broken off. One piece is also missing, please see pictures. This item is available for view in downtown Kansas City. I am listing this as local pick up only. However. This solid carved piece of oak meaures 8"x8"x5 1/2"H. Shaped in a dome style it is incised carved in a tree pattern. The piece is structurally sound and tight.there are no cracks. Losses or repairs.and the oak has it's original finish.golden color with a nice warm patina which only comes with age. This cap dates 1880-1915,and shows normal wear and scratches.but is overall in very good condition.One of the 4 panels does have a few shallow dents as if hit with a hammer towards the bottom"limbs" of the carved tree pattern. Vintage Antique Large Pine Finial Baluster Newell Post
Up for auction today is an Antique finial that would go on top of a baluster or post. It is made from a single piece of pine. It is 9" high x 21-1/2" ball circumference x 6-1/4" wide across the base. We found this at an estate sale cleaned it up and hand rubbed with wood wax. It has 3 of the antique nails if you want to re-attach to a post. Please see the pictures above for"character" marks. 1800's Antique Stair Ballister NEWELL POST Victorian / Eastlake Carved Wood
For your Bidding consideration in this Auction is a very early NEWELL POST in Victorian/ Eastlake Style. It is elegantly carved on all 8 sides. This came out of an Estate in Daytona. Florida and had been converted a long time ago from Stairway Newell Post to a stand holding a large Bronze Bust. You can see in the photos were it had been converted expertly back in the day. The top section is flat and judging from the work gesso or some other plaster had been used in process of affixing the flat top to the post. The original electric wire is still coming out of the base that would have been the electrical feed for an ornate bronze lamp which would have sat on top of the Newell Post. There are a few scratches/ knicks form age but overall in very nice condition. It had a set of 4 very old caster wheels on the base when I got it but due to age, ... morethey were very worn out so I removed them. Previous owner had wooden floors and the wheels, theoretically, allowed the stand to be moved more easily rather than having to pick it up. It is a very solid wood(Oak? Walnut? but I am not sure which type it is. Appears that some of the carved recesses had gilt color paint in them at some point. A very beautiful piece! Vintage Horse Head Post Cap - Newell Post
This Horse Head has really great look. It is well crafted and beautifully proportioned. The gray is some sort of base metal. That once had a coating of brass. The brass is mostly worn off, but the traces of it make a great accent. There is a hole in the top of the piece, where it looks like a finial may have been at one time. I think this was the top of post. It could be fashioned to be reused as that, but I think it would just be a great decorator piece on a shelf or mantle, placed on a stack of books or a stand.
