This 15 plus pound two piece cast iron hitching post fence post top horse head comes from a local NH estate and was on the ladies front yard fence for a few generations. It has no cracks or breaks and was formed from two pieces and welded or brazed together. Not the original paint I would assume and has a few splotches of paint the same color as her fence. up for sale is this absolutely exquisite Vintage CAST IRON HORSE HEAD Post. Bust. It is large. approximately 17 inches tall and the base is 8 x 5 inches. It came from a Northern Pennsylvania Estate, found in the barn when it was sold off. I wire brushed some of the loose rust off but it has great patina. The detail is quite amazing. It has some damage and has a crack but it is not in anyway loose to split apart. It is very heavy weighing about 35 LBS. That is all I know about the piece. Couldn't find any foundry stamp.

Vintage Cast Iron Carriage Horse Head Bust for Fence Post Cap Here is a great piece for your horse lovers out there. Would make a great addition to any collection. Recently picked the piece up at an auction This piece was made originally to set on a fence post as the head piece and it obviously did somewhere before I picked it up. Was rusty. But not too pitted from the exposure to the elements for some decades. Just gave it a good spraying with WD-40 to protect it from further corrosion. Nice detailing on the horse head. The horse is all harnessed up ready to take someone for a carriage ride. The cap the cast horse is attached to acts as a great base for the piece and has nice decorative detailing on it as well. The piece with the way the cap was made for the piece sits nicely on any flat surface. Does not need to be on a post. Just would ... moreneed to protect the surface it is sat on from the roughness of the cast iron. This is a very heavy piece. There is some sort of maker/model number on the back of the bust where it joins the base. Appears to be BO 160907. Only damage I see to it is a small piece of the cast iron hanging down from the yolk simulating a leather strap lost some of its' end. Chip to the front of the horse's right ear, and some minor chipping of the corners of the base. The cast iron horse head and base stands 17.75" tall. 5.25" across at the base, and 5.5" wide. The piece is about 6" wide when you take in the horse's snout extending further than the base. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. These pieces are ornate with a few nice details that differentiates them other vintage hitching posts. The"Ranch" is featured on roadsideamerica dot com. It sits along side Highway 88 just east of the City of Stockton in the agriculturally rich San Joaquin Valley. (Set of 3) Vintage Brass Horse Head Hitching Post Toppers/Rail Holders
Brass Horse Heads Very nice workmanship on this set of 3 vintage brass horse heads. Each figure is mountable to a post and could be used on it's own as a hitching post. But. All 3 were originally spaced equidistant from each other and a brass rail was fitted through the ring on each horse to form a long hitching rail. A wooden rail could be placed through the rings also. If desired. When we acquired these, there was no rail present any longer. The horse heads are all the same size and weigh approx. 4 pounds apiece. They are 9.25" long. 6.5" tall and 4.25" at the widest point. The rings at the end of the nose are 2" in diameter. Each ring has a screw at the bottom of it which can be turned to help secure any rail that is inserted. At the back of the heads. There is a right angle cut where the head could be mounted to ... morea post. The cut measures 3" x 2.5" There are two holes for screws/nails at the backs of the heads~one at the top and one at the bottom. The last photo shows one of the heads mounted to a simple two by four. These are in very good vintage condition and do have a patina while retaining quite a bit of shine. There is verdigris present~especially in the engraved grooves of the design and at the area of the holes at the end of the noses. There is some spotting-probably weather-related. But these are in fine overall shape and make a striking impression. I have tried and failed to find any maker's marks. But they are very well made and very solid. The detailing is excellent. They would be quite expensive to mail by weight. But they will all 3 actually fit into one large flat rate box. So will mail for one rate to anywhere in the contiguous United States. We are offering all 3 together at first. Because they really do belong together. But if no one buys them this way, we will eventually be offering them one at a time. Here's an antique Hitching Post topper. Made of heavy cast iron with black paint. This came from a gentleman who says it's been stored away for many years. He did say it was repainted in the 60s/70s but wasn't used after that except for display and is a genuine oldie from his family. He thinks 20s era or older. I've done all the research I can to find out a maker as there's no name listed anywhere on this but there is some distinguishable foundry marks on the sides which I've shown up close. I've poured over many. Many photos online and there's only 1 example I can find that has every detail the same as mine. It's a sold listing and can be seen by searching item#400742739080. They didn't know the makers name either but literally every detail, dimension, mold lines and all is identical. This piece stands ... morejust a wee under 10" tall. Just under 3.5" wide across ears, 8" across from mane to nose tip and the post mounting hole is 1 7/8" and this weighs 9lbs. It's a little top heavy so it doesn't stand on it's own unless you prop it a wee bit like I have it in the pics. No broken parts or repairs. Great old piece that I'm sure you will love!

Vintage Cast Horse head hitching post/ pillar topper 21" tall aluminum
This is very unique cast aluminum horse head hitching post. It sat atop a stone entrance pillar to a drive. a tree fell on it about 15 years ago and broke the head off the base, it was silver soldered back on as you can see in one of the photos, it is almost unnoticeable. it stands 21.5" tall and the horse head is 11" long, the base is 9.5" wide. it has flaking paint and wear, this would be a very easy restore or display as is.

Vintage Horse Head Post Cap - Newell Post
This Horse Head has really great look. It is well crafted and beautifully proportioned. The gray is some sort of base metal. That once had a coating of brass. The brass is mostly worn off, but the traces of it make a great accent. There is a hole in the top of the piece, where it looks like a finial may have been at one time. I think this was the top of post. It could be fashioned to be reused as that, but I think it would just be a great decorator piece on a shelf or mantle, placed on a stack of books or a stand.
