ORNATE ANTIQUE CARVED OAK NEWEL POST- ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE N.Y.C. UNUSUAL RARE
PURCHASED IN NEW YORK CITY AND PICK UP OR SHIPPING WILL BE FROM NEW YORK) UP FOR SALE I HAVE A MASSIVE NEWEL POST THAT WAS SALVAGED FROM A BUILDING IN MANHATTAN/ NEW YORK CITY. THE STAIRCASE MUST HAVE BEEN GRAND TO ACCOMODATE THIS NEWEL POST. THE SHAPE IS RARE AND UNUSUAL. THE TOP IS VERY ROUNDED WITH HAND CARVED MOLDING AND DESIGN, INTRICATE CARVINGS THROUGHOUT, THAT IS AESTHETICALLY PLEASING AND BOLD WITH NUANCE OF DAYS GONE BY. THE INDIVIDUAL SKILL OF THE WOODCRAFTER IS REVEALED IN THE DETAIL AND LEVEL OF CRAFTSMANSHIP& ARTISTIC ABILITY. THESE BALUSTRADES WERE AS MUCH A STRUCTURAL COMPONENT AS WELL AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BRING A DECORATIVE ENHANCEMENT TO THE ENTRANCE OF A HOME OR ESTABLISHMENT. SIZE AND INTRICACY OF THE CARVINGS OFTEN SPEAK TO THE WEALTH OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE PERIOD IN WHICH THEY WERE CRAFTED. SO THAT BEING SAID, ... moreWHOEVER THIS WAS CRAFTED FOR WAS VERY WEALTHY IF SIZE AND CARVING WERE A FACTOR! DON'T LET THIS OPPORTUNITY PASS YOU BY. OWN A PIECE OF NEW YORK HISTORY, POSSIBLY AN OLD MOVIE THEATRE OR BROADWAY THEATRE? THIS CAN STAND ALONE OR USED AS IT WAS PURPOSED FOR, STANDS TALL AND FIRM, NOT WOBBLY AND VERY HEAVY SOLID PIECE OF OAK, I BELIEVE. IT STANDS NEARLY FIVE(5) FEET TALL. THE BASE IS 20 INCHES X 12 INCHES DEEP, THE TOP CIRCUMFERENCE IS APPROXIMATELY 22 INCHES AND THE MIDDLE CIRCUMFERENCE IS APPROXIMATELY 24.5 INCHES, SO IT IS A VERY GRAND FOCAL POINT IN ANY PLACEMENT! UNFORTUNATELY. THIS WASN'T REMOVED DELICATELY DUE TO IT'S SIZE AND HOW WELL IT WAS BUILT AND THERE IS SOME RESTORATION THAT CAN EASILY BE DONE, THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT COLORS OF PAINT AS SEEN IN THE PICTURES, ONE SIDE A GREY, THE OTHER BLACK. THERE ARE NICKS AND NAIL HOLES. BUT AGAIN, FOR THE TALENTED CRAFTSMAN, THIS IS AN EASY RESTORATION, FOR THE COLLECTOR, JUST AS IT IS ADDS CHARACTER, UNDERNEATH THAT PAINT IS PROBABLY A GORGEOUS PIECE OF OAK. YOUR PREFERENCE. THE BASE IS NOTCHED FOR STAIRS BUT STANDS FREELY AND STRONG ON ITS OWN. SOLID WOOD, NO GESSO, JUST PAINTED ON EITHER SIDE. I TRIED TO TAKE P

Antique Architectural Salvage Wood Oak NEWEL POST Chippy White Paint & Ribbons
Antique ARCHITECTURAL Salvage Oak NEWEL POST with Old Chippy White Paint Size: 45 3/4" tall x 8" x 8" overall(all measurements are approximate) Description: This whimsical antique newel post will add architectural interest to your home- the possibilities are endless. These are often seen only in decorator magazines and are hard to find. Even in antique stores. This is out of a Victorian mansion in the Los Angeles area. This one is wonderful and heavy with nice thick moldings and a whimsical details. The old white paint is all perfectly time worn. Shabby and chippy. You can see the original oak wood underneath in the photos, in places where the paint is worn off. It has been indoors for all of it's life so there is no dry rot that I sometimes see on wood that has been out in the elements. Though the paint is chippy and worn ... moreit is not'shedding' as some others are. There are carved wooden ribbon applique details on 3 sides- so romantic! Please see the photos of showing the cut out notches on the bottom of the back side. They are pretty much all this way when they are removed from a stairway(see last two photos) This could easily be filled in with some old wood or you can just turn that side toward the wall as I have. Even with the notched-out area on the base it still stands alone and is quite sturdy. There is also a rough area near the top on the back side where it was removed from the banister. There are a few minor age splits on the surface of the wood that are tight and do not distract- just adds to its character. This one is flat on the top which is nice to use to display a statue or other objects. Your bid indicates that you have read and agree with terms below: The State of California requires sales tax to be collected for sales within California. This means that if you have a California shipping address. Sales tax will automatically be on your invoice. If your shipping address is in any other state you will not be taxed. It's warm, satin body has the wear of time. The dings, nail holes and open joints are appropriate for a piece with over 100 years of use. The overall height of the finial is 15" The 3" tall splayed base is 9 1/2" W. x 8" D. The wide ... moreround body is approx. 6" in diam.Weight is approx. 4 1/2 lbs. Lots of surface wear/imperfections, but excellent overall condition with carving remarkably intact. I also have a second pair of smaller columns available. VINTAGE Pair Mission Arts Crafts Oak Columns Pedestal Architectural Salvage
UNIQUE. Mission- Arts and Crafts style Oak Columns or room divider pedestals. Architectural salvage with classic arts and crafts styling. Great grain and very solid and heavy. Each column weighs approximately 12 pounds. The columns are 48 inches high, and the base is approximately 9.5 inches square tapering up to approximately 5.5 inches square at the top. Use these two columns to accent your mission fireplace, incorporate into a room divider, or use individually as pedestals for select art work. One column has the finish removed and accents the beautiful oak grain. The second column still has the original alligator finish, which is very easy to remove with any commercial paint stripper. If you are interested in a beautiful grain wood, you can't go wrong with oak. These original columns are very difficult to find, and very expensive if ... moreyou find them. Other mission columns on Ebay have starting bids well over $700.00. I am a long-time Ebayer with 100% positive feedback. And I offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. IF you are NOT happy. I am NOT happy. Just return the item, and I will refund your purchase price. No questions asked. In my more than 15 years on Ebay, I’ve only had two(2) returns and they were the result of my mistake in the listing. The pedestals are over sized and heavy probably around 12 pounds each and will need an oversize package, so I will ship UPS. It may take a little longer to arrive, but USPS shipping costs have increased significantly. No International shipping, just too expensive outside the US. I've checked with UPS and for the longest distance(San Francisco) shipping will take approximately seven business days. Good Luck and Happy Bidding.

About Us My salvage business was born of necessity in 1993 when I started restoring an old Victorian home that had seen better days. I needed doors. Staircase parts, fireplace mantles and more, so I contacted the owners of a few local buildings that were scheduled for demolition. I found and purchased all of the things that I needed for my project and lots of extra treasures which I eventually resold. 17 years later this is still my full time job! I
