For sale is a fantastic rare set of 8 antique mahogany columns! They are 6 foot tall. The columns are 6 inches across. The footprint of the base and top is 10 inches square. All the bases and tops are included. The carving is wood. Some of the carving is missing. Maybe you know a plaster artist that can replicate the missing pieces. Most of the columns have the missing carved pieces on one side. you can pick up 30 miles west of Chicago in Oswego or you must arrange and pay for your own shipper. 6 Pair of 59" Wood Columns/Porch Posts This pair of porch posts date from around the late 1800's. The posts are made from solid wood. Probably poplar. They were originally porch columns at one time that have been cut down. The posts are 59" high with 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" square tops and 4 5/8" x 4 5/8" bottoms. The center section of the posts have a turned and shapely design. There is some old termite damage from the past. This occurred prior to the posts being stripped. Complete Victorian porch set. This set includes 7 columns 114"tall with a 6" X 6" base. One of the bases looks to have been repaired sometime in the past it has been pieced together. A few of the bases are a little soft on the ends. There are 9 main corbels one for each column and 2 for the center columns. There are 28 More corbels that go with this set their are 2 for each column the larger of them go up against the column and the smaller are for the ends of these. The have there original chippy white paint. Some of the small detail pieces are missing. Overall this set id in good Salvaged condition. Here is a pair of big old solid poplar columns(not hollow) They are w eathered but in decent conditi on overall. The bottoms were hand cut so they may need planing. Though they do stand easily on their own. These columns are big and heavy, probably about 200 pounds each. They have a very slight taper, about 1" in diameter over 90" of length. These were turned from one tree trunk each, they are not laminated layers. There are c racks and checks on them. And the edge of one of the tops is missing(see pics) Some of the tips of t he radius details have broke ... moreoff. It looks like these were small pieces that were added to complete the curve(see pics) that have since fallen off. There is a little bit of paint on them but not much. Very nice finish with a twisted groove. They are in very good antique condition with some signs of his age. 2 Solid Walnut Wood Baluster Columns Posts Pillars Victorian Circa 1900 Antique Measurements: length 19 1/4" Flat end diameter at double-ring ends is 2 5/8" outside diameter 2 7/8" Flat end diameter at triple-ring ends is 2 1/2" outside diameter 2 3/4" Center part of columns diameter is 2" Weight: 3.5 lbs. 1.595 kg) These columns are a pair. Though of different color tones: looks like one was stripped and refinished to a lighter color, the other was left in original stain, a deep mahogany color. Both have a fine grain, and look to me like walnut, though they may be another hardwood. They were likely salvaged from a side-board or similar piece of furniture that dated to circa 1900.
