There is a matching pair which also have the round base and square caps each measuring 93" overall. The posts themselves are 7 3/4" in diameter at the base and taper to 6 1/4" wide at the top. Vintage Antique Pine Newel Post Cannon Ball Old Varnish Finish 4 3/4" x 40"
For your consideration is a vintage pine newel post. The post is 4 3/4" square x 40" tall. As shown. The post retains the original varnish with paint spatters here and there. The original configuration had hand rails coming into two sides of this post.so like an"L" There are nail holes and no varnish in these areas. There is a small chip in one of the turned rings on the ball top, as shown in the last photo. Estate fresh and in as found condition, there are dings and scratches as should be expected. They are based on the ionic Roman order of design with the scrolled capitals. Each stands 74" tall, 13" in diameter and 6 1/2" wide capital. Excellent, original condition with a mellow warm patina that only time can bring. Minor, stable age splits in the veneer and wear consistent with age that really only enhance their beauty. This is a pair of circa late 1800s fancy cast iron newel posts.They are over 150lbs each and are large at 48inches tall and 9-1/2 inches wide and 8-1/2 inches wide at different ends.The 2 top finials get held together with a rod that gets screwed into the finial and set in cement when post is placed in its permanent position. I bought this antique railing over 40 years ago at an antique store- used part of it as a room divider until a redecoration. I believe the wood is either oak or walnut and that it is well over 100 years old. All parts seem to be from one unit from long ago. 1. the main part which I used consists of a railing which is 5' 10" long with 13 nice matching spindles and a matching newel post at the end which is 39 inches high and 5" square 2. a second matching newel post would be used at a corner- see pictures 3. another matching railing which is 4' 8" with a curve at the end 4. a bunch of spindles. Pair Amazing Antique Galvanized Steel Cast Iron Tapered Fluted Doric Columns
Rare antique pair of steel and cast iron classical columns. The bases and capitals are heavy walled cast iron and the shafts are(looks like galvanized) steel.A nice heavy gauge that looks like 12 or 14 gauge. No cracks to the cast iron. The fluted shafts are very rigid and there are no apparent dents or dings,though many layers of paint exist. It would take a real sharp blow to dent these. As strong as they are,I would not consider them to be load bearing on their own, though they would hold quite a bit of weight.A 6 x 6 or a 4 x 4 wood post was probably used as a bearing post.For what they are,the condition is excellent,with no rot, rust-through or bends. I would classify any rust as surface rust.The bases and capitals fit snuggly. They measure 93-1/4" tall each.Including the base and capital.The base measure 13-1/2" square and ... morethe capitals are 10-1/2" square. These are also tapered.The shaft being 10" in diameter at the bottom and 8" at the top.This does not get picked up in photos-they appear straight. But in person,they are noticably tapered, required a trapazoidal blank of sheet steel and some pretty trick machinery. Perfect for decorative interior columns in spaces with an 8ft ceiling. If the paint were stripped,these would look incredible. Pick up from Montclair.N.J. due to weight and size. Gorgeous Primitive Antique Solid Wood Column Table Base Pedestal Shabby White The pickens were slim this weekend as far as auctions and estate sales. So I went to a favorite antique mall that always has an awesome February sale. Picked up lots of antiques and unique items to list! I also continue to list new items from the farm estate auction, with lookouts more new hardware pieces over the next several weeks. I am also going to one of my favorite flea market shows this weekend, so wish me luck! There’s something for everyone! I do not know exactly what this one started out life as- was it an architectural piece. Or a table base or something else- but it will be yours to decide now- it's a drop dead gorgeous piece. Made of solid wood, it has carved out ovals all around in typical column form. Both ends are unfinished- one end having a ... morehole in the center, and the other end has the same hole, as well as a smaller hole at the side of that base. You can see that hole in photo 13, and then again in photos 15& 16- there's a 1" crack that starts at the larger base hole and runs for 1" out pointing right at the side hole! Now, that end of the base has what appears to be very old and very worn green felt on it- I'm not sure why- did the former owner use this as a pedestal and put it on? I don't know, but there's still some left on to do the job for you. The piece measures 20 1/8" tall. It's 5 7/8" diameter at the end in photo 4(the end without the felt) and then 6" diameter at the end in photo 15(with felt) That end is a little different in that it has rounded edges and a carved inset that goes around just under the end- which the other side does not have. The piece weighs a he afty 7 lbs. LETS talk about the PATINA now! I'm saving that for last because it is truly the icing on the cake! It has a very very very worn creamy white patina for its last coat of paint(which seems to have been a while ago) and under that, you can see other colors too- I see tan, light blue

It probably was the braces for a shelf on a side board in the early Victorian Period. ANTIQUE HORSE HEAD CAST IRON HITCHING POST Nice heavy cast iron horse head hitching post with ring. The post is painted black. Age: Probably early to mid 20th century. Condition: The horse head is solid and sturdy. No breaks. Paint is chipping off in spots and it needs to be repainted especially if you plan to use it outdoors. Size: The head measures 11 1/4 inches tall with a 3 7/8 inch diameter opening for the attachment to a post. It weighs 11 1/2 pounds. Please see photos for further evaluation of condition. Just found this great piece. I love architectural pieces and the top of this in a shell design is great. It measures 38" high and the width is 5" at the widest point. It has a hole near the top in the flat piece of wood probably where a rail went in. These are great pieces to put on the wall or in the garden. I just love them. ~ BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE CARVED OAK NEWEL POST FLOWER POT VINES ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE
Description This is a nice newel post that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of oak and was painted but has been stripped. The top of the post has carved flowers on three sides with nice Victorian details below. The shaft has Eastlake Spoon Carvings on three sides. There is a flower pot with vines and flowers. There is a cut out for the step at the bottom but is freestanding. The total measurements are 46.25 inches tall by 7.75 inches square at the base and 6 inches square at the shaft. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. It needs a final finish sanding and it needs a finial.
