Manufactured in early 1900's dresser or cigarette box shaped like a basement or storm cellar doors in a simulated brick mounting. This dresser or cigarette box measures 4 9/16 inches long by 3 13/32 inches wide by 2 11/32 inches deep. The box is marked: Derby S. P. Co. International S. Co. 1551 EPWM” This is one of the marks of the Derby Silver Company after they merged with the International Silver Company in 1898. It is likely that this box was made circa 1898-1910 or so. The Derby Silver Company went in to business in 1873& went out of business in 1933. The company began operations in their first location in Sheldon. Connecticut. The company was known for making all sorts of silver plated& silver items. The letters“EPWM” in the marking indicates that this dresser or cigarette box was made of electroplated white metal. CALM BEFORE THE STORM/BLACK MAGIC WHITE MAGIC) td by(PHANTOM) Formed in Detroit. Singer/guitarist Tom Carson(aka Phantom) guitarist Gary Meisner, former Detroit Wheels drummer John Badanjek, bassist Dennis Craner and keyboard player Mike DeMartino originally started out as Walpurgis. Signed by Punch Andrew's Hideout label, they were quickly advised to opt for a more mainstream name- hence a change to Phantom's Divine Comedy(not Phantom as shown in some reference guides) Hideout's interest was probably not hurt by the fact Carson sounded uncannily like the late Jim Morrison. Released in 1973, the single"Calm Before the Storm" b/w"Black Magic, White Magic" did little in terms of sales, but attracted the attention of Capitol, which financed 1974's"Phantom's Divine Comedy Part 1" With Carson writing ... moreall 8 selections, the set was surprisingly good. Occasionally a bit on the pretentious side(check out the laughable spoken word intro to"Merlin" material such as"Tales from a Wizard" Calm Before the Storm" and"Spiders Will Dance(On Your Face While You Sleep) was uniformly strong and well executed. The fact that classical violinist Nigel Kennedy has dropped his first name for this set(to become Kennedy) doesn't bode well. Which makes it all the more surprising that this collection is quite good. Teaming up with producer Jaz Coleman(who has previously reworked Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin in the same vein) and the Prague Symphony Orchestra, Kennedy's violin replaces the vocals of Jim Morrison. Fortunately, lurking underneath Kennedy's guise as a rebel lies the thing which first brought him so much attention: his ability to play exquisite music, both technically and emotionally. Coleman's arrangements bring new depth to the music; at times the results bear little in common with the originals(such as"Riders on the Storm" and"People Are Strange" nonetheless, they're fascinating musical excursions best approached with an open mind.
