These huge teak château doors dating to around 1850c were recently removed from the French Embassy in Jakarta when new security doors were added. The front boasts a grand 19th Century appearance which alone is impressive enough. However when you turn to see the back of the doors you find and incredible pair of life size paintings of what is believed to be a King and Queen. The detail is just remarkable. And apparently painted in real gold although this has not been tested. Large antique doors without the interesting background and without the stunning artwork alone are rather sort after. Each door has a solid Douglas Fir core covered with 1/16" birch veneers and features 5 wavy glass lites. Although the 2 doors look like a pair when placed side-by-side. They need a bit of work before they could become a true pair. One door has a lip on the edge of its lock stile and the other doesn't. The hinge stile is wider than the lock stile on the door without the lip. The extra wide stile would make it pretty easy to cut into to create a groove for the lip of the other door to fit into, and make the doors a true pair. Lovely pair of antique. French doors. All of the doors were salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Ohio. Each door is made of either Douglas Fir or pine and features an impressive arrangement of 10 true-divided old-fashioned, hand-blown, wavy glass lites. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was ... moremilled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This shutter was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. Pairs#3& 4 were not originally paired together. We acquired the doors from a contractor. And didn't remove the doors from the home ourselves. We don't know exactly how the doors were installed, or if there were other doors that we didn't get, which may have been the actual mates of the doors that we paired together to make Pairs#3& 4. The windows and mullions of the doors in the 2 odd pairs line up with each other, but the hinge mortises are not located in the correct positions to allow the hinges to be installed where they need to be. This is a very minor detail, which is easily corrected. Pair of heavy wood French style doors. The doors measure about 80" x 30" x 1 3/4" Each doors has 15 glass panes; one glass pane is missing. I believe the wood to be pine. Please review a close picture of cleaned wood. These doors were removed from a historic Savannah. Georgia house/business that was being renovated. One side of the doors is painted black and the other side is the natural wood. The doors were lightly cleaned and ready for your restoration. Each door is made of either Douglas Fir or pine and features an impressive arrangement of 10 true-divided old-fashioned, hand-blown, wavy glass lites. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled ... moreby our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This shutter was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. Pairs#3& 4 were not originally paired together. We acquired the doors from a contractor. And didn't remove the doors from the home ourselves.
