~ 15 LITE ANTIQUE FRENCH DOOR ~ VERY NICE DOOR ~ UNIQUE
Description This is a nice antique French door that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian mansion. It is made of pine and is currently unapinted. It is a double swinging door and the lower hardware is intact. The upper hardware is missing the pin. 4 pieces of glass are missing but the mullions are intact. It has both push plates. It needs sanded and restained or painted because the old finish is uneven. It measures 30 inches wide. By 79.5 inches tall. It's 1 and 3/8 inches thick. Overall. It is in decent condition. There are misc. scratches and dings that add to the antique charm of the piece. If you have any questions. Please feel free to ask. I'll be happy to provide you with any additional details you need. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir, and has an impressive arrangement of 15, true-divided, glass lites. 12 of the lites are original, wavy glass, and 3 are newer, flat glass. We could replace the 3 newer lites with old, wavy lites for $35. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. We have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door(check out our eBay store) If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood. Please email us for a quote. Condition: On the interior side of the door. Around the lower windows; there are a few pieces of molding and mullions that are eroded as if a dog was chewing ... moreon them, or something hard rubbed against them for a pro-longed period of time. If you plan on repainting the door, these parts could be sanded and reshaped with some filler(spackle, wood-glue, and wood putty) Bondo, etc. and then painted over. The door only has the typical scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes that you would expect to find on a 100-year old door. Penn Antique Restoration. 30"x83"x1.75" Antique French Door w/15 Beveled Glass Lites. Charming. Antique, French door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Ohio. The door has a solid pine core covered with 1/16" thick, birch veneers, and has an impressive arrangement of 15, true-divided, beveled glass lites. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, and soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Also. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/16" thick and provide ... morestrength and stability to the door. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. We have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door(check out our eBay store) If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood. Please email us for a quote. Condition: About half of the upper rail and half of the lock stile on the exterior side is missing veneer. There are also a couple of other spots where the veneer is loose or missing(see photos) The loose veneer is easy to re-secure. And filling in the empty spots with filler or any veneer would be simple and inexpensive. However, that would make the door only suitable to repaint. If you would like to refinish the door, filling in the empty spots with veneer that would match the existing, surrounding veneer will be more challenging, and more costly. There are a few chips in along the upper edges of the door(see photos) The door may look in bad shape, but it's actually quite strong, sturdy, and structurally sound. Penn Antique Restoration. 35"x83" Antique Restored French Door w/15 Wavy Glass Lites. Beautifully restored. Antique door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It’s made of solid pine and features an arrangement of 15 true-divided, wavy glass lites. We repaired, refinished, and equipped the door with an old lockset and mailbox. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The door was found with its original finish, 1 broken lite, 1 deadbolt hole, 1 broken mullion, 9 pieces of broken molding, nail holes, and equipped only with a mortise lock and mail door. Since then, we’ve stripped the original finish, replaced the broken lite, made and added molding, patched the deadbolt hole, and filled the nail holes(see photos under"Prior to refinishing" A few months ago. A customer bought the door and had us cut the width ... morefrom 35 7/8" to 35 1/8" and refinish it to match the woodwork in his home. Unfortunately, the customer did the measuring himself, and mis-measured. The door was actually perfect at 35 7/8" but after cutting it, it was no longer usable for him. The door is made of solid, Douglas Fir or pine, and is painted on both sides. It has a lovely arrangement of 15, true-divided, glass lites. The door was previously used as a"swinging door. which means that it had a spring-loaded, pivot hinge installed in it's bottom corner, and swung both forward and backward like a saloon style door. The door no longer has it's pivot hinge or push plates. However, just because it was used as a swinging door, doesn't mean that you have to. We could cut off the rounded sides and trim the door to 30"W, or we could cut and then add to the sides to widen it to 32" or wider. We could also cut the ... moreheight of the door to just above of the area where the hinge was installed(which would make the door 78 5/8" Or if you need the height or need it taller, we could plug the mortised area and even add to it. Look at the last photos of another door that we modified as an example. Condition: A thin piece of wood broke off of one of the corners. There are 15 lites or panels of beveled glass with wood dividers. This was originally a swinging door and has both push plates and lower mechanism. It measures 32 inches wide by 79.25 tall and is 1.5 inches thick. Overall it is in decent condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning.
