HEAVY CARVED POLYCHROME SOLID WOOD SET ANTIQUE CHINESE DOORS GATE FRAME CORBELS
Talk about an unusual Charleston estate auction find. here is an incredible heavy carved polychrome solid wood Chinese door or heavy gate with a cross beam and side beam frame as well as the heavy raised panel doors with all their original iron fittings. This is an old Chinese door and is extremely heavy as well as somewhat primitive on the unfinished sides of the beams. The polychrome paint is quite worn but is still quite evident and adds so much character to an already gorgeous detailed yet functional heavy door. I have included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design. Quality, condition and overall beauty of this delightful antique door. Unfotunately I do not know any additional provenance on the door or have any definitive explanation as to how it arrived in our fair city, though with it being a port ... morecity and with the sheer size and weight, my guess is whenever it came to the US, it was most assuredly by boat long ago. The standing door frame itself is 78 inches tall by 68 inches wide at it's widest points. At beams which extend and is constructed of huge beams 4 1/2 inches wide.The inside doorway entrance(inside the standing frame) is 63 1/2 inches tall and 39 1/4 inches wide, with a bottom crossbeam one would have to step over to enter. In addition there is a large crossbeam I believe goes overhead, hooking into the corbels, 68 inches long by 8 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches thick. There are also two side beams each 73 1/4 inches long by 6 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches thick and the two corbels, carved from blocks roughly 21 1/2 inches by 12 inches by 8 inches. The two raised panels doors, which shut from behind the door frame, are 74 1/2 inches tall and very heavy, ready for locking out the enemy. Description This is a door that were salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian home. It is made of walnut and is painted on both sides. There is glass at the top. One has the original beveled glass and the other was replaced with flat glass. They have very ornate fronts. There are carved pediments above the glass. The shelves are trimmed in dentil molding below. The lower raised panels are trimmed in ornate moldings. They measure 47 inches wide by 87.25 tall and are 2.25 thick. Overall they are in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as they are antique. They could use a good cleaning. The astrigal needs work. There are 2 deadbolt holes and a mail slot. The fronts are very ornate. The tops have panels of distorted florentine glass. Each door has a single raised panel at the bottom. Within each panel are 4 pyramid shaped panels with wooded buttons in the middle of each. There are also fluted details on the uprights. The backs are not as ornate and have a raised panel at the bottom. Most of the hardware needs replacing. The ornate slide bolts are intact. SUPER PAIR CARVED ANTIQUE VICTORIAN OAK ICE BOX DOORS ORNATE HINGES + HANDLE
This is a pair of oak doors from a Victorian era ice box made by the Challenge Corn Planter Co. of Grand Haven MI. It has carved panels and very nice brass hardware. They measure 25 3/4" wide combined c 19 1/4" high x 2 3/8" deep. They need to be refinished as you can see. The center mullion is broken and most likely needs to be replaced. The grain is raised some more so on the right side of the left hand door, there is a close up photo attached. The zinc backs are all in good condition, overall they are solid but need a new finish. We also have the top lid or door from this same ice box listed as well as the original brass makers tag. ~ ANTIQUE CARVED DOUBLE ENTRANC FRENCH DOORS ~ 50 x 82 ~ ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE ~
Description This is a beautiful piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of pine with chippy paint on both sides. Each door has 21 pieces of glass. An arch is formed with mullions at the top and there is a carved sunflower at the base of the arch. The fronts and backs look the same. Most of the hardware needs to be replaced. It measures 50.25 inches wide by 82.25 inches tall and is 1.75 inches deep. Overall. It is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. There are several pieces of broken glass. The doors were altered at some point. They were trimmed and I believe they were originally swinging doors into a dining room.
