ANTIQUE ARTS & CRAFTS CARVED WOOD FOLDER / COVERS - LINENFOLD LINEN FOLD PANELS
An antique Arts& Crafts folder. Circa 1900, made from two panels, possibly walnut, finely carved with a linenfold design. The panels have holes down one side and are laced together to form the cover for an album or blotter. The panels are in good condition with no damage, though the cord lacing is worn. HEAVY CARVED POLYCHROME SOLID WOOD SET ANTIQUE CHINESE DOORS GATE FRAME CORBELS
Talk about an unusual Charleston estate auction find. here is an incredible heavy carved polychrome solid wood Chinese door or heavy gate with a cross beam and side beam frame as well as the heavy raised panel doors with all their original iron fittings. This is an old Chinese door and is extremely heavy as well as somewhat primitive on the unfinished sides of the beams. The polychrome paint is quite worn but is still quite evident and adds so much character to an already gorgeous detailed yet functional heavy door. I have included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design. Quality, condition and overall beauty of this delightful antique door. Unfotunately I do not know any additional provenance on the door or have any definitive explanation as to how it arrived in our fair city, though with it being a port ... morecity and with the sheer size and weight, my guess is whenever it came to the US, it was most assuredly by boat long ago. The standing door frame itself is 78 inches tall by 68 inches wide at it's widest points. At beams which extend and is constructed of huge beams 4 1/2 inches wide.The inside doorway entrance(inside the standing frame) is 63 1/2 inches tall and 39 1/4 inches wide, with a bottom crossbeam one would have to step over to enter. In addition there is a large crossbeam I believe goes overhead, hooking into the corbels, 68 inches long by 8 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches thick. There are also two side beams each 73 1/4 inches long by 6 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches thick and the two corbels, carved from blocks roughly 21 1/2 inches by 12 inches by 8 inches. The two raised panels doors, which shut from behind the door frame, are 74 1/2 inches tall and very heavy, ready for locking out the enemy. The door has a solid, chestnut core covered with 1/4" thick, quartersawn or riftsawn oak veneers on both sides. The door is also painted and features 6 raised panels on both sides. C hestnut is a rare and valuable wood; it’s not commercially available due to the blight introduced between 1900& 1908. Which made the North American chestnut trees virtually extinct by 1940. Also, please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are almost 1/4" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door could be sanded and refinished several times ... morebefore the door would need to be re-veneered. Hardware: The door doesn't come equipped with any hardware. However. We have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door(check out our eBay store) The door was originally a part of a pair. And it had internal slide bolts, which locked it into the frame, while the other door was allowed to swing freely. The 2 bolts were removed, and the 7"x1 1/4" holes remain. There are all sorts here including wood ones from the victorian period. A few early metal ones, and a weird brass figural rabbit. I think the rabbit may not be a door stop but it sure looks like one. It may just be a draw pull. The most awesome is that massive brass/bronze one as seen close-up in the last 4 pictures. It is simply massive and beautiful! The condition of the stops are generally good with varying degrees of typical wear from age and use, as pictured. One is missing a screw, another has some nail holes, and none have been cleaned. Penn Antique Restoration. 34"x83"x1.75" Antique Victorian Entry Door w/Window& 2 Panels. Distressed. Antique, exterior door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The door has a solid pine core covered with 1/4" thick, quatersawn oak veneers on the exterior side, and 1/4" thick heartpine veneers on the interior side. The door is painted on both sides. Please note that heartpine is the non-living. Core of a pine tree, and not the soft, outer, living sap-wood. Since it takes 30 years for a pine tree just to develop just 1” of heart stock it is rarer, harder, more durable, more insect& rot resistant, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and is much more valuable than the cheap, pine lumber that is commonly found at most hardware stores. Also, please don't think that"veneer" ... moremeans inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/4" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door could be sanded and refinished several times before the door would need to be re-veneered. The door has a lhalf-length window. On the exterior side. There is a stepped ledge with carved motif below the window. Also notice the beautiful applied molding around the 2, raised panels below-nice accents! Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. We have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door(check out our eBay store) If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with a solid wood. Please email us for a quote. Condition: The door must have sat along it's lock stile edge in some water for a long period of time. As the wood(both veneer and core strips) along that side have rotted away. Luckily, due to the way that the door was constructed, we were able to simply"pull off" the 1 3/8" thick, bad strips of core wood, and the wood that remains is good and usable. Most of the lock stile's veneer is intact, and the partially broken portions could be replaced.

ONLY ONE DOOR-the door on the left. With hardware removed(although it will be included) Solid wood door with original glass removed from my 1904 Victorian home. Again, this buy-it-now is for ONE door. Most of the woodwork in my house, including the floors, is pine, so I'm assuming these doors are pine. Beautiful scalloped carving surrounding the glass. One door has a significant chip on the top inside corner, shown in one photograph. Otherwise, minor nicks and scratches, overall in good shape. I believe if you stripped these, patched and finished, they will look beautiful. And the original wavy glass is gorgeous. The doors are not perfectly square, so I will give the range of measurements. I removed the lockset from one door to distinguish the two, but mortise lock, plate, knobs, and iron hinges ARE INCLUDED! All are original to the doors ... moreexcept the deadbolts. I do NOT have keys for the mortise locks, but I do have keys for the deadbolt which I'll include. Door is 31-11/16" wide, 79-3/8" to 79-1/4" high. Doors is 1-3/4" thick. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. These veneers are almost 1/8" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. There are globs of dried paint stripper on the painted side of the door. The doors are made of solid Douglas Fir, and have 4 recessed panels on both sides. Hardware: The doors are not equipped with any hardware. However. We have a good selection of period hardware to outfit any of these doors(check out our eBay store) If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood. Condition: see close up photos) Door#1: Someone unevenly cut the height of the door by 3/8" most likely to compensate for a warped floor and/or leaning foundation.
