Vintage Longines Chronograph Ships Deck Clock 1942 Maritime Nautical Chronometer
This Longines Chronograph is a fantastic ships clock. WWII ships had to have a highly accurate and dependable timepiece for navigation and Longines filled that bill with a swiss made timepiece. Even though Switzerland wanted to remain neutral Supplying the US with vital items such as these movements seemed to be no problem for them. This chronograph seems to run very strong. The up/down indicater works properly. It sits in its original 6" x 6" wood box. there is no key to the box) The s/n of the movement is 6411710 and from what I can determine this puts it at approx. 1942. There are 3 condition issues that I know of. 1) The sweep second hand looks to be repaired You may be able to see in the pics that about half-way it looks like it was rejoined where it may have been broken, I am unsure exactly what may be the case as this is ... morethe way it was when I acquired it. 2) the thing that holds the box top from falling back needs to be re installed, there is 1 screw missing and the brass plate needs to be flattened out. 3) the movement cover on the bottom side which is the weight that makes it gimbal properly is missing. And of course the missing key which I already mentioned. So with the downsides out of the way lets review the positive, Rare! Movement looks great and runs great! Power indicater works correctly! This chronometer dates from the 1950's as confirmed by its serial# I t comes in its original gimballed wooden protective case. Secured by a snap bracket on the front. The chronometer is free to swivel in its gimbals when released by the locking lever in the lower right hand corner of the case. This also permits it to be turned over. So the protective cover over the key slot can be turned clockwise. To expose the slot for insertion of the winding key. The original winding key sits in a a base at the upper right hand corner of the box. The opening limiter on the upper left corner of the case hold s it open in the vertical position. The chronometer is 5 inches in diameter and 3 inches high. The hour numerals are Roman. The center of the face is marked Thomas Mercer and the bottom says Thomas Mercer Ltd. and St. Albans. The winding counter at the top shows the maximum wind time of 56 hours or 4 days plus 8 hours. Wit h WIND marked at the 24 hour point. Suggesting daily winding when in use. Description: This great old ceiling fixture has a thick custard glass shade with a tan-colored compass pattern and stars. The ship's wheel fixture against the ceiling is metal with the original brown finish and wooden handles. The light hangs down about 4 inches. Not counting the original solid brass anchor finial. Vintage Nautical Maritime Combination Bow Lantern or Lamp Boat
This auction is for a nautical maritime combination"Bow Lantern" I have included photos of all aspects of the lantern. I could NOT find the ID/name printed on the lantern. Therefore. I do not know the date but probably before or around 1912. This lantern measures 11 inches wide. 10 inches tall, and 8 1/2 inches front to back, and weighs 4 lbs. and 12 ounces. Has all parts and in very good condition. There is a crack on very top by handle that I have depicted in photo. The bow lantern is an early style kerosene burner combination navigation light. The earliest were made by National marine Lamp Company of New York. At some point(probably in 1912) they used the trade name"Triplex" and thus. A date or trademark was stamped.
