The lamp stays level at any angle. It also has wear to the finish with corrosion on several spots. So study the pictures carefully. Although most of the piece is made of brass I suspect the shade is a different metal, perhaps copper. I have not tried lighting the lamp(no oil) so I can't say how well it works. This lantern appears to be in excellent condition.I do not know the maker because it is not marked. I have not tested this lantern and I do not know if all of the parts are present. The brass is beautiful and not dented or scratched. The glass is labeled PYREX. A Vintage Coleman Model 242C. The Sunshine of the Night" Lantern. It has a Chrome over Brass font. With a Green Shade. The shade has a small chip as shown. The chip measures 5/16" x 3/16" It is dated August 1948. The previous owner or owners have scribed their name into the bottom. It. In no way affects the operation of the lantern. Everything is free and it pumps up pressure. It has no mantle wick so I did not test. All fuel has been drained out. Looks like it has the original globe made by Pyrex with Coleman on the other side. Solid Brass Neptune NR Oil Burning Ships Lantern
This Solid Brass Ships Lantern was purchased by us from LL Bean in the early 1980's and is of the highest quality construction. The solid brass has great weld joints and copper rivet construction. The entire inner glass chimney portion is easily removed by two brass handles for fueling and cleaning. The lantern has been used several times and has some black smoke on the glass chimney. Still has 6" to 7" of cotton wick left in fuel pot. Other wise it is in perfect condition and could be passed on for generations. This could be polished to a high shine but I have preferred the acquired patina. The lantern measures approx. 15" X 8" and weighs approx. 6 lbs. Brass oil lantern manufactured in the early 1900's for use in finer staterooms. It is an absolutely beautiful antique in great condition. There are two small cracks(you can see them in the last two pictures) around the base of the lantern. Most likely caused by age. Also I had a hard time screwing together the lantern and the piece that connects to the wall. I think it could be easily replaced with another bolt. And it might even go together if it is forced. I was trying to be careful when I was putting it together. See the third to last picture to know the piece I am talking about. This lamp was manufactured by C. Gray Ship Chandlers Established 1882 Arbroyath. Scotland. The lamps have not been polished because I wanted to keep it in its current condition and I liked the way they look! The clear glass chimney is in perfect condition. But it does not go to the edge of the metal rim) so I do not know if it is just made that way or this is not the original shade. Either way it looks beautiful. Rare Antique Brass Adjustable Height Nautical Oil Lantern
This unusual lantern has a double handle the back and one at the top. It was made by a quality company with its heavy weight and sturdy construction. The thick glass cylindrical chimney is rough at the top with a chip and has an inch crack at the bottom. The brass hooded flip top has round holes on each side so that the wick can get air and give more light. Perforations beneath the cylinder shade for air, and a clip to secure the hooded top. With the handle up the lantern is approx. 10.25” high. And 14.75” high when the adjustable stem is shown and the lantern is elevated. I found no maker’s name on the lantern. The reflector on the inside back will definitely reflect the light once it is polished. This is in really good condition and has been rewired at some point in it's life. I believe it is ready to install by the looks of it but I am selling it as is. The original slag glass shades are not present. This lovely hanging lamp measures 32 inches from the top to the tip of the center hanging lamp. 29 inches to the other four, wall mount is 6 3/8 wide, center hoop is 16 wide by 4 inches deep. Vintage or Antique Brass& Glass Ships Lantern'British Make' Brass& globe body totals measure 14.5" tall. With heavy looped wire handle up it measures 17+/ tall. My ruler is a little tilted:o) Globe glass measures 28" around and heavy metal wire protector is 32" around. Glass globe in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks, etc. Oil can in good condition with no holes. Wick probably needs replacing if you're going to actually'use' this. The portion of old wick th at remains is blue and white striped. On the brass can beside the wick it reads'British Make' On the other side it reads'Full Inch' Brass could possibly used polished. But I'll let you do that. There's a bit of discoloration on the very bottom inside ring where the oil canister inserts. But you can't see that ... morefrom the outside. Here for auction is a great and quite vintage Coleman QuickLite Lantern. I was told this and am not positive of the name and also that it may be from the 40's. This was turned into an electric lamp at one time and works when you plug it in. It stands approx. 19" tall and the base is 8" across the bottom. On the fitting it states: The Coleman Lamp Co. Wichita Kansas USA. The font appears to be brass. I believe that the top collar is original to the lantern. I have no idea what is missing from its original set up but those of you that are knowledgeable will know. The knob turns freely. There is tarnish on the brass and there is a ding as shown in the numerous images. I am offering a brass 17 ½” tall. Beautiful ships-style lantern. I have seen this sold as an antique, but do not know the actual age of it. It belongs to a friend and he has had it several years, but also does not know any provenance. I believe it to be English made, partially due to the reservoir/burner’s, style of construction, as I own a smaller version marked“English Made” with a very similar style. Very solid, no chips, cracks, dents, or other damage found. It is missing the bale/handle, which could easily be replaced with brass rod. I dusted off the cobwebs but it will need a good cleaning especially since somebody in the past did not adjust the wick properly and it is pretty sooty in the chimney and a bit in the globe. A nice early oil lantern. Unusual cut glass globe with brass ends. Has a metal swivel handle with hook to hang. Sits on a small brass burner. Working condition. You will need to fill with oil as I will be draining it to ship. Stands approx. 11 1/2" tall without handle. Glass is 6" diameter widest. Condition is good, glass does have some scratches to it. Also the burner does not connect to lantern, I'm not sure if it's missing some clamps or? Burner will wedge in to place, but, do not move or lift when lit as it could fall out and cause fire. NY or National Marine Lamp Co, NY The lantern is missing the burner/font The brass around the lenses is painted green& red. In as found used condition with light age/use wear Loss of solder that holds the divider in place- see photos Some slight retaining putty loss on the inside around the lenses.
