Antique Leather and Brass Telescope Spyglass Three Tier Pull Great Condition
This is for an antique leather and brass telescope. It was likely made in France in the late 19th or early 20th century. The telescope is 17-1/2 inches fully extended and is 6-1/2 inches when closed. While this finely crafted telescope is in working condition. It does show some light wear: There is some wear to the leather and discoloration to the polished brass at spots, and some minor dings but nothing to detract from the functionality of the scope. There are no scratches on the lens. There are no dates, but the design and construction are typical of quality telescopes from the turn of the century. Sturdy and obviously well-made. 18th 19th Century English Naval Decagonal Decahedral Telescope Spyglass
This is a late 18th/early 19th century English mahogany bodied single draw decagonal(ten sided) marine telescope. It has a 3/4-inch field lens. Dust slides, and tapering body. It measures 17 1/4 inches un-extended and 20 1/2 inches extended to the line on the draw. The optics are quite good. Although usually dated to the mid-late 18th century. I know some of these were still being made into the 19th century. Especially as this one is un-signed I won't yield to the temptation to state that this one is definitely 18th century. And unlike 99% of the telescopes on eBay, this is a true maritime or naval telescope from the age of sail. I am selling a number of nautical and other instruments now and in the near future and am happy to combine shipping. There is a Brass plate on the telescope that reads: Bausch& Lomb Opt. Co. Rochester, N.Y. Telescope, U.S. Navy Bureau of Ordnance. Mark: XI, Mod: 9, No. 5693 C.H.D. Inspector(has a stamp of an anchor) The middle coupler has PAT: Nov. 1, 1904; May 7, 1907; and MAY. 9, 1911 on it. There is some minor paint wear and minimal oxidization. Keuffel & Esser K&E Vintage Navy Spyglass, Telescope, Brass, Leather Clad, Nice!
This is a wonderful Keuffel& Esser Spyglass Telescope. It is an"Officer of the Deck" model with 12.5 power optics. It comes clad in leather with a leather strap. It's in really great condition with an authentic vintage appearance. The optics are crystal clear and produce a surprisingly sharp and bright image. K&E produced high quality drafting. Engineering, and marine devices with optics to be used every day, not simply for decoration, although their equipment are truly works of art. The leather seam along the tube has split, but it seems to be well adhered and not in danger of coming off. Also, someone has sanded a spot on the sight tube. This was where the inscription"U.S. Navy, Officer of the Deck" used to be. It was also on the leather, but was scraped off there as well. I did enough time in the Navy to ... morerecognize when somebody wanted a piece of gear they weren't supposed to have. Getting caught with or trying to sell equipment labeled"US Navy" was highly frowned upon, so somebody tried to cover their aft end here. The K&E logo is still clear on the leather, as well as"Power 12 1/2" Officer of the Deck" can be made out under a loupe in the right light. Other than that, there is no damage to speak of. It is in fantastic structural shape and has a nice weighty and solid feel to it. The leather is still supple with some darkening from age in spots. Antique Maritime Telescope Spyglass 19th Century Brass & Wood 2 3/4 lense 42 in
Up for bid is an antique spyglass/telescope and I'm guessing it was used for maritime. Fully extended it is 42 1/4 inches long which is one of the longer spyglasses I've seen listed. Both the eye piece and the bigger lense unscrew out. I do not see any maker names or markings on this telescope/spyglass. The wood veneer does have a crack in it but has a wonderful patina to the wood. The large glass lense has a round bubble in the glass that was there when the telescope was made and is not a crack just an imperfection when it was made and noted in my pictures. This spyglass does come with the original brass lense cap which are usually missing from these spyglasses. The telescope is 12 and 1/4 when not extended. This spyglass is pretty heavy and weighs almost 3 pounds. I havn't seen to many that extend this far or are this heavy ... morelisted.

If you look at our past sales. We have already sold an antique microscope and Civil War era spyglass that came from this small collection. Rober-Aglae Cauchoix(1776-1845) of Paris. France was a prominent optician& manufacturer of many different types of scientific instruments, such as barometers& microscopes. In the 1830s, he had created THE largest telescope objectives in the world 3 different times, of which were glass 11"+ lenses. Many other of his period created objectives, telescopes, ... morelenses were desired and purchased by many other prominent people and universities throughout Europe. They can be found at places such as The Northumberland Equatorial at Cambridge University, Collegio Romano Observatory, Conservatorie National des Arts et Metiers, as well as the Smithsonian in Washington has a telescope of his in their own collection. This amazing and stunning pocket spyglass/telescope is in excellent condition for being over 170+ years old. But has been since repaired sometime in the mid 20th Century. It has a crack in what appears to be the quartz exterior, which Cauchoix was famous for using in his works. The crack runs down the entire side and at the top near the eyeglass. It has some sort of adhesive that you can see in the photo that was added to these cracks. The metal pieces appear to be brass, but have high quality shine to it and slight wear in spots. Overall when retracted out, it measures approx. 5" long and when compressed, it measures 3-1/2" The top eyeglass has stamped marks that read in French"LTE PERF. EE PAR CAUCHOIX B. Lovely vintage piece put out by Birks fine Jewelers. This is a solid brass telescope measuring 14" when extended and 5 1/4" when closed. Weighing 275G. It is composed of 4 segments, all of which operate very smoothly. The telescope is in working order with a 24X30mm lens. It does focus on distance targets. The telescope comes in a box, but athe box has no markings on it. Overall condition is very good for the brass, a few slight scatches, which are more noticeable under a magnifying glass than to the naked eye. This is a vintage 5 3/4" when not being used and 16 1/4" when fully extended. It's a three draw and is made of brass with a leather outer grip. There is a small pin on the end where you look thru to pull a brass cover over the glass. It's not maker marked. At least I can't find anything. Civil War Era Spyglass 29 inches long This is an old spyglass from the 1800's era and closed it is 9 1/2 inches and open it is 29 inches long. It has the little cover on the eye hole at the end and it measures 1 7/8 inches at the front glass. There is a removeable brass cover for the large end and a tiny slide cover on the eye hole end. The leather has wear but no dings or dents on the brass. Normal 0 21 false false false BG X-NONE X-NONE Carl Fritsch(August 22. 1855- January 2, 1926) was an Austrian optician and instrument maker. Together with J. Forster, he constructed a new astronomical telescope, in which the main and secondary mirrors were tilted towards each other. Their instrument was a little revolution in astronomy. This spyglass model is constructed by Fritsch at around 1870s and sold to wealthy citizens with interest to sky watching or spying on their neighbours. The tube is made of Brass with matted and polished elements. The outer-most tube is wrapped with brown leather. The spyglass consists of five pieces. That retract and fold into one another. It is a beautiful piece of 19th Century long-distance optics for museums and private collections. The spyglass is in a well preserved condition. 18th century RAMSDEN London 3-draw telescope/spyglass - shagreen case
Ramsden. London 3-draw telescope In good condition- see photos. Only problem I can find is that the first draw separates from the second if pulled. There are some small scratches to the wood but commensurate with age. Focuses well and no signs of water or mould. Shutter works well. Metal end cover is also present. Marked with'Ramsden London' see photo. The shagreen covered wood case is in very good condition. I am not an expert in telescopes or lenses but have described it as best as I can so please Message me with any queries. I believe Ramsden was an innovator in optics and as he died in 1800 this must be pre-1800. It measures 28 inches open and 9 inches closed. The weight is 642g(inc case) No reserve.
