By 2" wide, and when stored, it is 9 3/4" long. Above: The internal eyepiece cover is missing. Above& below. The mottled area, and the area forward of it were originally covered with leather. Antique Maritime Telescope Spyglass 19th Century Brass & Wood 2 3/4 lense 42 in
Up for bid is an antique spyglass/telescope and I'm guessing it was used for maritime. Fully extended it is 42 1/4 inches long which is one of the longer spyglasses I've seen listed. Both the eye piece and the bigger lense unscrew out. I do not see any maker names or markings on this telescope/spyglass. The wood veneer does have a crack in it but has a wonderful patina to the wood. The large glass lense has a round bubble in the glass that was there when the telescope was made and is not a crack just an imperfection when it was made and noted in my pictures. This spyglass does come with the original brass lense cap which are usually missing from these spyglasses. The telescope is 12 and 1/4 when not extended. This spyglass is pretty heavy and weighs almost 3 pounds. I havn't seen to many that extend this far or are this heavy ... morelisted.

Antique leather and brass spyglass. It has 4 sections with 3 of them expandable. I think the sections pull out a little hard but maybe they are supposed to be that way. There is a removeable brass cover for the large end and a tiny slide cover on the eye hole end. The leather has wear but no dings or dents on the brass. I did get it to focus on a wild turkey in the woods so it's in working condition. The spyglass could stand a good cleaning. Measures about 6 Inches closed and 17 inches fully expanded. Forster, he constructed a new astronomical telescope, in which the main and secondary mirrors were tilted towards each other. Their instrument was a little revolution in astronomy. This spyglass model is constructed by Fritsch at around 1870s and sold to wealthy citizens with interest to sky watching or spying on their neighbours. The tube is made of Brass with matted and polished elements. The outer-most tube is wrapped with brown leather. The spyglass consists of five pieces. That retract and fold into one another. It is a beautiful piece of 19th Century long-distance optics for museums and private collections. The spyglass is in a well preserved condition. This is for an antique leather and brass telescope. It is marked France on the brass lens cover It was made in France in the late 19 th or early 20 th century. The telescope is 13 1/4" inches fully extended and is 6 1/2" inches when closed. While this finely crafted telescope is in working condition. It does show some light wear: There is some wear to the leather and discoloration to the polished brass at spots. And some minor dings but nothing to detract from the functionality of the scope. There are no dates. But the design and construction are typical of quality telescopes from the turn of the century. Sturdy and obviously well-made. Payment due within 3 days of auction ending.

This is an antique original 3 draw spyglass circa 1870 to 1880s that I picked up at an estate sale. THIS IS NOT A REPRODUCTION. It comes with its original leather pouch. It is in very good condition. It is made of brass and has a few tiny small dents on the draws and on the metal surrounding the objective lens. The first draw pulls out a little too easily(if you were to hold the spyglass upside down it would pull out about two to three inches or so) however the second two draws are firm and pull out rather nicely. It seems like this spyglass was also oiled not too long ago. The lenses are also very clear. The objective lens has some small microscopic scratches that do not interfere whatsoever with the view. This is an Antique Spyglass Telescope with 4 Sections. It is all Brass and Has a Black Wrapping on it. I don't know a lot about Spyglasses. But everything I've seen, makes me think it might be French. There are no markings on it, so I can't really say for sure. The Eyepiece has a swivel piece that covers the Lens. Both Lenses are in Good Condition, but could use a cleaning. I did not try to clean them, because I was afraid of possibly scratching them. This measures 6" closed and 16" fully extended. There are scratches to the brass tube sections from being opened and closed over the years. Some of the"wrap" has come apart where it was stitched. There is also a small ding on the front rim. Antique 19th C French Spyglass Telescope Brass w/Basket Weave Wrap
Antique 19th century brass and wrapped spyglass. The piece has an unusual basket weave type wrap around the body of the spyglass. This wrap appears to be made up of small strands of fine thread layed out and woven. There are some areas of wear and minor loss on the wrap(please view pictures) There are minor imperfections on the brass barrel. The both lens are in good condition and both caps are intact. This is probably an English piece. Although I cannot find any marks. It measures 23 7/8" long; each end is 1 3/8" and 2 5/8" in diameter. Fully extended it measures 42 3/8" long.

The outer lens has a tiny surface scar(the size of a particle of dust) and there are some tiny dust particles behind the lens. There are no cracks. Extended length is just less than 42 cm. An interesting piece. The telescope measures 17 3/4" without end cap- 18" with end cap- When closed it measures 7" The diameter of the end lense is 30mm. The eye piece measures 30mm in diameter. Has a good weight at 430g. CONDITION- The telescope is in very good condition for its age. There is wear to leather and usual patina from age. The only defect is the end cap where one of the splits is misshapen but this does not affect it being used as the end cap or have any bearing on its use.
