Which became the critical safety standard for capital ships following the Titanic Disaster. The bridge would set the telegraphs to"Close W.T. Doors" To signal engineers of the activation of a system of hydraulic steel doors to effectively compartmentalize the ship's hull to contain an intrusion of seawater. These museum quality massive bronze telegraphs are marked Siemens Brothers& Co. Limited London with four sequential serial numbers. In effect they are four independent engine order telegraphs. With 2 mounted on each pedestal. Proudly exhibited. A similar model of one of these telegraphs today serves Siemens headquarters. CHRISTIE'S Auction House also showcased a Siemens Telegraph at its Maritime Auction in New York on July 20. 2005. However, the Christie's example did not have the rare engine order to'close watertight doors. Understandably. Just one of these magnificent steamship telegraphs is extremely rare, but to acquire a matched pair is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity worthy of any marine antiques collection. The cutter Genesta was the unsuccessful English challenger in the fifth America's Cup in 1885 against the American defender Puritan. The Genesta a composite construction cutter(oak planking on a steel frame) was designed by John Beavor-Webb and built by Dan Hatchen Henderson& Company of Scotland in 1884. For owner Sir Richard Sutton of the Royal Yacht Squadron, England. A good racing man. Beavor-Webb steered Genesta with Captain John Carter. His performance in the second race against Puritan was to be for a long time engraved in the memory of the yachtsmen who witnessed the race. After the Cup races. Sutton and Genesta won the Brenton Reef Cup, the Cape May Challenge Cup, and, upon returning to Britain, the first Round Britain Race in 1887. VINTAGE HALF HULL MODEL OF SAILING SCHOONER YACHT"GOODWILL" Model was made in 1950'S A little history of the"Goodwill" Built in 1922 for Keith Spaulding of the famous sporting goods family. Named in honor of Albert"Goodwill" Spaulding; a famous player and one of the founders of modern baseball. The yacht made many trans Atlantic crossings and South Pacific cruises. Leased to the U.S. Navy and used as a Coastal Patrol vessel during WWII. The Spaulding owners sold the vessel to group of investors after the war. Purchased by the last owner Ralph E. Larrabee soon there after. The yacht was refitted for sailing and participated in 2 of Transpac Hawaii races in the early and late 1950's. First to finish in 1959 race. Presented is an antique shadowbox model of a full-rigged ship navigating thru plaster wave crests with chalky-white painted. Carved wood sails set, including: outer jib. Inner jib, fore topmast staysail, fore skysail, fore royal sail, fore topgallant sail, fore course, main royal staysail, main topgallant staysail, main topmast staysail, main skysail, main royal sail, main topgallant sail, mizzen royal staysail, mizzen topgallant staysail, mizzen topmast staysail, mizzen topsail, spanker. Like scrimshaw. Shadowbox or diorama ship model making was a popular sailor's folk art practiced during the long voyages of 19th& early 20th centuries by American and English seamen. Models were hand crafted on a pitching sea from available shipboard scraps of wood, hemp, paint, etc. At the end of a voyage many were gifted to family, or traded for ... moregoods. This model has the look of a model from the pages of Herman Melville and is one of the oldest examples of a nautical antique diorama we have seen, estimated circa 2nd or 3rd quarter 19th C. Unfortunately, many dioramas on the market today seem to be too elaborate, artisticly painted, highly stylized and art institute perfect, more likely produced later by a landlubber at home, then a deckhand between watches. Box itself appears to be made of two pine panels joined together to form backdrop. Then pine slats all around to provide top, sides and base for plaster sea and ship. Ship is a half hull model type, often portrayed in these types of presentations. Please note: A generous amount of authentic old surface grunge. Vintage 1973 Builder's Half Hull Ship Model of a Carter 33 Sailboat by Olympic Yachts. The Carter 33 sailboat was designed by Dick Carter and I believe 200 were built starting in 1973. This is a half hull fiberglas model of the Carter 33. Numbered on the back 138 with a metal marker plaque on the front. Wood frame. This measures 30" long(frame) and the hull itself is 24" Weighs about 8 pounds by itself. Wire hanger on back. Antique Wooden Steamship Half Hull Model
This antique half hull model of a steamship has a label(not original to the model) that says"schooner rigged coal steamer. Ca. 1895; length 156' beam 25.5' tonnage 300 gross. I have been unable to determine which ship this model was made for, but the ships dimensions seem generally accurate. The model is 41" long and it is on a 45 1/2" long board. It is an authentic half hull model with some layout markings visible on the hull. The hull is a layup of about 11 boards. It has a very nice patina and a warm, honey color glow. Overall a very nice, unique quality maritime item.

The half hull model is mounted on a piece of hand chamfered wood and measures 21 ¼ by 55 ½ inches and is 7 inches deep(54 by 141 by 18 cm) The ships model features a full length portrait of an early steam tug boat. The boat is all wood and all hand made with hand painted details. It is also further enhanced with brass mounts and stack. This tug. Named in honor of Albert"Goodwill" Spaulding; a famous player and one of the founders of modern baseball. The yacht made many trans Atlantic crossings and South Pacific cruises. Leased to the U.S. Navy and used as a Coastal Patrol vessel during WWII. The Spaulding owners sold the vessel to group of investors after the war. Purchased by the last owner Ralph E. Larrabee soon there after. The yacht was refitted for sailing and participated in 2 of Transpac Hawaii races in the early and late 1950's. First to finish in 1959 race. The articles within the glass are from the New York times, depicting pictures, passenger list, and charts, but barely legible. Note the picture of the top left corner, there appears to be some sort of mechanism to perhaps open and clean the inside of the box, but we are not sure as we did not open it or try it. The gold accent trim seems to be in good condition, the variations in color(hue) we think is meant to be. The case is tight, no chips, no cracks in the glass. Here we have a builder's half hull plating model of a steel hulled ship. The model is 37 1/2" long. The model is made of various pieces of wood and appears to have been painted white. Then engineering details hand drawn on it, and finished with a coat of shellac. The model is marked"Ship No. 181-182 143'0" B.P. x 12'6" x 39'0" No other markings other than the engineering details are present. May be British as the word"CENTRE" is used in the engineering details. I don't think you will see many of these except in a museum. It would make a fine addition to any collection and when hung on a wall it can function as a small shelf to display other small items from your collection. For your consideration is a large. Half hull ship model of the Iron Ship Alicia built by the Hull Ship Building Company dated 1865. The board on which the ship is mounted measures 42 inches by 9 inches. The ship measures 32 inches long by 4.5 inches high by 2.75 inches wide. Since the 18th. century, shipwrights used to create a half-hull model of a shp before its construction began. The half-hull was the technical basis for creating the final plans of the ship building project. However, the half-hull was not only functional but were used as a decoration for the ship yard office. This Bull's Eye half hull is mounted on a 12" x 20" processed plastic-texture feeling surface which is 1" thick. The boat appears to be wood and polishes up like wood. The boat alone measures 16" long x 4 1/2" wide in addition to the dimension of the plaque. The entire plaque weighs approx. 2.2 lbs. I tried to show some close up photos so you could see for yourself the nice condition of this piece. I have never seen another Bull's Eye half hull like this one and assume this piece to be rare. In the 80's I was in the yacht transportation business and transported many of these Bull's Eyes to The Ocean Reef Club in Fl. For The Cape Cod Shipbuilding Co of Ma. Almost without exception half hull models of today are produced by the water line lift method not hand carved as they were originally. Builders of the past would carve the model until it was pleasing to their eye and scale up the dimensions directly from the model working without plans to produce a full size vessel.Models offered are not commonly seen and are carved from a glued block of pine with a mahogany waterline. As a result the entire model is one piece other then rudders which of necessity must be a separate piece even on the full size vessel. No glued on keels. Very collectible Antique Ship or Sailboat Half Hull Model! Good Antique one made with laminated Wood and in its original painted and varnished surface. See close-up photos. Backside has some old screw or nail holes, not seen when displayed on a wall. See first and last two photos to show it displayed against a wall. It has two eyelet hooks for hanging purposes. Half hull ship model 1/2 hull vintage NO RESERVE
You are viewing a very nice vintage hand carved half 1/2 hull ship model. It has a wonderful natural patina with a few bumps. Stains and dings consistent with its age and handling over the years. This half hull has beautiful lines and very nice detail. Looking from the top you can see chisel marks from this model being hand hewn from a single block of wood that appears to have been glued together from two pieces. The model itself measures approx. 3" tall x 2 1/4" deep x 17 3/4" long. And the mounting measures approx. 8" x 24" The model is securely fastened to the mount by two flat head screws. This would make a wonderful addition to any ship model, half hull, maritme or nautical collection. In addition it would also make a great statement piece for any restaurant, bar, man cave or beach house. Handcrafted America 1851 Half Hull Wooden Model from the estate of an long time sailor and naval officer in Boston MA. This expert level. Highly detailed, museum quality, America 1851 model is preowned but in excellent condition This America's Cup half hull model was crafted in mahogany and tropical hard woods by the traditional plank on bulkhead method. After the bulkheads are laid and the hull lines trued. The hull is planked with individual wooden strips to form a smooth silhouette. The America 1851 model is then sanded. Hand painted with black topsides and a red cove stripe. The hull is stained and varnished to a mirror-like finish. NO RESERVE.This is an Older VINTAGE Wooden Half Hull Model of the Herreshoff 1901 Americas Cup Sail Boat Columbia.It measures overall 28 inches long and seems to have a bit of age patina.I know many make similar boats to this. But it certainly appears to have some age and is quite possibly an earlier model.I bought it because I could not tell how old it was and did not want to make a mistake letting it go so I am letting the Ebay market determine the value.It has a brass tag on the lower right with the particulars of the builder and boat that also shows age.Overall its an attractive half hull that does have some age issues, but is still nice.Buyer Pays Shipping. Beautiful Hand Made Ships Half Hull #122 "Gloucester Sloop " Amazing Work"
I am not in any way an expert on this but I can tell you when I saw this collection it took my breath away.The builder made hundreds signed& numbered each one.He was a local craftsman in his eighties who recently passed away.These were from his estate and as far as I could tell he never sold them before.I have four and may be able to obtain more.As far as the craftsmanship you can be the judge but I have not seen any on ebay that could even compare to the quality& woods.The ship is approx: 14 inches long and about 2 1/2 inches in width at its widest.PS Keep me on your list of favorites for the other hulls.PS This hull is only the tip of the iceberg.I will be listing many more and each is unique with superb workmanship.I am not in anyway an expert but I love art and this is art at its finest if anyone wishes you can contact me for ... morefurther information.Ps The hull weighs approx: a little over 1 pound one of the smaller hulls but no less beautiful.
