Gorgeous Antique Copper Lustre Jug/Pitcher, Grn Accent
Up for a 3 Day Auction is this Gorgeous Copper Lustre Jug. Copper Lustre was rediscovered in the very early 19th century from an ancient Persian Overglaze.although one source mentions Iraq. Josiah Wedgwood really perfected the work. This sort of earthenware had it's heyday from 1820 till 1850 particularly in the Staffordshire Potteries. Albert Longton also produced this ware in the 1870's. This Jug has no maker's marks. There are swerves and flourishes. On each side are a dancing couple depicted from an earlier time. The colors are a deep copper. With green accents. The inside is a cream color. The height of the pitcher is 7 inches at the spout and 8 inches at the top of the handle. The base is 4 and a half inches in diameter but for space displacement. The width would be more like 6 inches. There are two surface chips one on ... moreeach side of the rim. There is a minor hairline just up from one of the chips. Just up from that is a small area that may have had a sticker. I think that it needs some goo-be-gone but I'm out. This nice Jug measures 12 1/2" H and 5 1/2" in diameter at the base. It is also 10" in diameter at its widest point. The jug exhibits a wonderful ovoid shape with an applied handle. Antique Primitive Southern Jersey Manganese and Lead Glazed Straight-Sided Redware Jug For your Antique Redware Collection Details Description: A very nice piece of American folk art. An antique redware straight-sided jug made in South New Jersey. The jug is glazed on both the inside and out side with a manganese-lead glaze. It has an applied handle with typical raised center and depression on the bottom where it meets the jug. It is decorated with incised lines at the shoulder and has a large mouth with a recessed neck and straight sides. The bottom of the jug is unglazed as is about 3/8" on the side at the bottom. As you can see from the photos, the outside of the pot has a nice dark glaze indicative of manganese glazing. Date: Late 1800s to Early 1900s. Origin: Southern New Jersey. Size: 1 3/4" in diameter at the top. 4 1/2" ... morein diameter at the base, and is ~7 1/2" in height Maker: Unknown. Marks: None. Antique Cobalt Blue Decorated Stoneware Jug; Old Salt Glaze 19th Century Pottery
Up for bids we offer a beautiful. 19th Century, 2 gallon, stoneware jug in exceptional condition. Right out of an estate, this salt glazed piece has a folksy, cobalt blue floral decoration on the front as well as an underscored number"2" above it. It was found in the western New York region and isn't signed by the pottery that produced it but there's a good chance it is a Lyons- Fisher or Burger jug. It has a gorgeous, dark, and earthy coloring along with that speckled, salt glazed surface. This piece is very well preserved and has only one small pitted type flaw near the handle. There are no other chips, not even around the spout or the bottom edge. The handle hasn't been broken and there aren't any cracks or hairlines anywhere on the piece. As a little bonus, we'll include the very nice, hand-carved wooden ... morestopper it was found with. The jug measures about 13 1/2 inches high with a bottom diameter of 8 1/4 inches while the very top measures 2 1/4 inches across. As far as condition goes, this is the nicest piece of decorated stoneware we have ever found. It would make a super addition to any collection and also a top notch example to start one off! WILLIAM RIDGWAY& CO YELLOW WARE HOUND HANDLE JUG YELLOWARE SIGNED, A rare yellow ware hound handle relief molded hunt jug with mastiffs at the kill of a wild boar on one side and a male Lion attacking a stag on the other. Signed with a rare partial pad mark on the base. England. William Ridgway& Co. Staffordshire ca 1830-1854 This is an early Staffordshire relief molded hunt jug with a yelloware body. This is a rare example in that it is marked with an applied pad mark on the base. The padmark has partially broken off. And it took me a while to figure whose mark it was. I found the mark in"English China and its Marks" by Thomas H. Ormsbee. The mark is in an octagon frame with an anchor and urn. It has W R& Co in a banner below the anchor. The jug is also marked with an impressed asterisk or flower and the ... morenumber 9. The jug measures 6 1/8" high at the tip of the spout and 7" at the top of the hound handle. It is 4 1/2" across the base. The exterior has a matte satiny sheen. While the inside has a clear shiny glaze. The relief decoration is crisp and spectacular. Condition The hound handle has been repaired at the top where the paws meet the rim and near the bottom terminal at the haunches and tail. These repairs must have been done by an amateur. And they could definitely be improved by a professional restorer. Guaranteed authentic, this is truly a rare Ridgway jug and it will enhance any collection of yellowware, or hunt jugs. Measuring 9 1/8" High by 3 3/4" Wide. Across the Base, is this Very Old 19th. century"StoneWare" Beer bottle with the debossing"A.H. WEBSTER" on the conical neck of the bottle. There is some kind of a graphic flower/ paining design or decal, possibly, that would be easily removed. I removed a green felt pad, on the base, and there are traces of the remnants of that on the base. There are NO CRACKS, NO LINES, NO CHIPS, etc. There is a very Old, Pin-point, hardly noticeable flea-bite, on the inside of the Mouth, where it looks like the side of an opener may have caught the Lip. Up for auction is this stoneware jug from The T. Eaton's Co. Toronto.13" tall by 7" wide. This company is no longer in business. I have never seen another of these in many years of collecting. Mint condition.No chips. Cracks or repairs. Refer to pics. The light area on front of lip is not a chip, but where brown glaze is not covered from manufacture. Nice piece for the Eaton's collectors. The center piece is the famous“The Music Lesson” seated under a bower of white jasmine in full blossom was a damsel with a youthful musician. There is a small dog dressed in man’s attire dancing on a marble stool. The lady evidently teaching the dog to step to the music. NJ MEASUREMENTS(all approx. 11 ½” tall and 7” wide. 25" diameter. Opening diameter 1" This 1 gallon jug was made for John W. Vogel& Son. Newark, NJ probably in the late 19th or early 20th century. CONDITION: The blue writing has some wearing and scraping off the stoneware. A few small chips around the top rim(see the photos) There are a few small'pox marks' around the body of the jug and small chips around the base. On the bottom there is a 1" dent or chipping. Beautiful Stoneware/Earthenware Jug/pitcher**Rare Shape** No Reserve**
This is a RARE beautiful antique stoneware jug! It is gray with a blue raised design all over it. It has two different crests on the bottom and top and there is a very scary face right next to the pour spout. I could not find another like it online or at antique dealers. Years ago when I had an antique dealer look at it she said it was made in the early 1900's. She said it was made to hold alcohol(Wine) or water. She estimated a $400 value. since then I have not found one like it. It is quite heavy around 8lbs. Stands 18" tall and is 10 1/2" at its widest point. There are no markings on the bottom except for the#78. If anyone has any info at all on this jug I would appreciate it. This is a antique green glazed(sancai tricolor style) pottery jar bottle. From the Tang dynasty of China, circa 700s to 900s AD. It was recovered from a Chinese shipwreck in Indonesian sea. Crazing or repairs. This is ca. 1850s-1920s give or take? The neck of the vessel is impressed with an old-style" 3" The lid has a"grip" texture around it. A rubber gasket seal and screws into the top of the jug. It appears to have"+" slots in the top for screwing the lid tight so I'm assuming it held some type of valuable liquid! Antique Stoneware Salt Glazed Miniature American Pottery Jug Applied Handle
Up for auction is an antique stoneware saltglazed jug recently found at auction in northern Indiana. It is found in good used condition. It has a small applied handle in the back large enough for one finger. It measures approx. 6 1/2" with a base diameter of approx. 4 1/2" in size. The opening is approx 1" The only condition issue to report is a small hairline crack in the back which does not go through to the interior. See photo 7. There are also some stain marks which should clean up without much effort. It is not signed and appears more southern than northern American pottery. A nice addition to one's collection. Bottom Marked Stoneware Cone Top One Gallon Jug by Buckeye Pottery
For your consideration is a vintage stoneware jug made by the BUCKEYE POTTERY of MACOMB ILLINOIS. This jug is a one gallon size and is the cone top style. I do not know much about this company. What I do know is this company was formed in 1882 and was sold in 1941; I beleive this jug to have been manufactured during the first decade of the twentieth century. In 1882, the technology to use this type of glaze had not been invented. The companies that I have studied got the technology to use this type of glaze between 1894 and 1901. From the table to the shoulder is approximately 7" This jug has a total height of approximately 10 3/4" The bottom is slightly over 7" in diameter. This jug has a crack on the cone, not far from the handle. It has a chip on the shoulder and another chip on the lip. There are three minor to insignificant ... morechips where the sides meet the bottom. This jug displays wonderfully, but is not perfect; before purchasing, please carefully look at the photos. Heather Dew Whiskey Jug Mitchell Bros. Barrowfield Pottery H. Kennedy Glasgow
This turn of the century jug is quite hefty with nice detailed deep navy blue graphics over a cream/ off-white background with an applied handle highlighted in tan along with the neck. There are no cracks or chips. This item is in good- very good"as found" condition considering the age and use with minimal if any crazing. It appears at one time someone may have used this jug as a candle holder as there is a bit of residual wax to the inner neck area shown in photo#5. Any flaws in paint or glaze should be considered a manufacturing flaw and not damage. I have provided some additional photos showing some of the detail. The base has typical shelf wear and has the impressed seal of"Barrowfield Pottery" H. Kennedy" Glasgow" shown in photos#8& 9 which was in business from 1886-1929. Note that the"yellowing" ... morein some of the photos is poor lighting. This item is not yellow. Please view all photographs provided and utilize the enlargement and zoom features as needed. This item should be washed in a mild soap and warm water before use or displaying and should display nicely. Do not use dishwasher. Approximate Dimensions: 7 1/4"H x 4 1/4" diameter at the belly. Authenic early 1900's Moonshine Jug Antique Ceramic Stoneware Pottery Whiskey Jug Crock Beehive Salt Glaze Brown Heavy old jug weighs in at nearly six(6) lbs. and is over 9" tall. 7 1/2" diameter Put a lip lock on this 1 1/4" neck and do some serious draining This old moonshine jug is the real thing. Was passed along to me many years ago so I know this was used as it was meant to be used. This jug wasn't made to be admired but what it held was. There are some small chips knocked out here and there but that's part of the true character of any well used jug that is still around.
