WHAT A CROCK OF. EXCELLENCY! HERE'S a fine authentic genuine 19th c salt glazed Stoneware Crock to CHEER about. Near as fine collector condition as one likes to find them straight last week fresh plucked out of a one-man thirty year private collection culled locally in his lifetime, for you to reharvest and give new life to once again this brand new Spring 2013 debut listing from Colony Farm Antiques, the hard goods division of Lady Ellens' Fine Ware here on EBay, where we serve reenactors and select collector interests with supreme offerings. The open salt glazed Stoneware Crock is stamped with OTTMAN BRO'S over FORT EDWARD. NY over a compact tight cluster hand slipped blue scroll coil spray dotted leafy floral cluster typical of slip cup decoration(slip is liquid clay) that looks like two google eyes. The decorations sits well ... moremid front to the piece and shows nicely in overall balanced scheme to the viewer, this one had some thought exercised during manufacture as so many other finds are simply routine, unimaginative, and in some cases, downright hurried and sloppy! The molded rim ring is thick, well formed and strong, and left and right ear lug handles are sound, tight, easy grip, deeply formed, and attached firmly no issues. This is a clean nice stoneware example for anyone's proud display collection. Unmarked to capacity, I would say it is best equivalent to just about 1 1/2 gallon size. Condition Report: Very sound. Super clean Stoneware desireable small counter top sized Crock has few if any flaws to note except getting super picky.Two fingernail dents before firing in coil spray area. Two inch cloud shaped darker grey discolor area floating on back. Two half inch similar marks floating left side front. No kiss marks or stone pings. Clean sound bottom with some dirt/blackened surface color. No fry to cobalt, No hairlines. No repairs. ANTIQUE STONEWARE SMALL JUG MARKED MACOMB POTTERY CO. AT LEAST 100 YEARS OLD
We have for your viewing and bidding pleasure a collectible small antique stoneware jug. It is in a rather unusual and uncommon size. We believe it to be pint sized. It is in the old style and shape called the beehive design. On the bottom it is incised or marked with the name MACOMB POTTERY CO. The jug is in good condition with no breaks or chips. At the very bottom of the handle there is a small lined stress thin age crack. From the bottom of the base to where the cork starts it is about 5 ¼” high. Across the base it is 3” and it is 3 ½” across the widest bulged out area. We are listing the above described at least 100 year old antique jug at a no reserve selling price. VINTAGE LIQUOR JUG FEDERAL LAW FORBIDS THE SALE OR REUSE OF THIS BOTTLE R 104
This bottle is in excellent condition. It has a few minor scuffs due to general usage. The bottle is embossed with the words"Federal law forbids the sale or re-use of this bottle" inside an oval. The letter and number"R 104" is embossed right below the oval. Dimensions: Height: 10.20 inches Base Diameter: 3.12 inches History of Marking: Bottles which are embossed with the words"Federal law forbids the sale or re-use of this bottle" are dating from 1935 through the early 1970s. After prohibition was repealed on Dec 5. 1933 the law changed again and it became legal to manufacture and sell alcoholic beverages. The reasoning behind this law was to prevent the refilling of bottles by the black market bootlegging businesses. In 1935 the law went into effect which stated that the words"Federal law forbids sale ... moreor re-use of this bottle" must be embossed somewhere on the bottle. On Dec 1. 1964 the law was repealed. Some manufactures still were embossing their bottles into the early 1970s. Since hundreds or thousands of bottle molds would have been in active use circa 1964 when the phrase requirement was phased out, it would have been highly expensive, time-consuming and basically pointless to re-tool all the molds to“erase” the warning. Thus it is certain that some bottles continued to carry the phrase for some time after 1964. Nevertheless. It is still a fairly safe bet that most bottles with this marking do indeed date from that 29-year period. Huge numbers of all types and shapes of“spirits” flasks& cylinder-shaped(fifth) bottles(bourbon& scotch whiskey. Gin, vermouth, vodka, etc, etc) were marked with this phrase. This was done in an effort to discourage the re-use of empty bottles for bottling and selling homemade(that is. Unregulated) distilled liquor(moonshine” the sale of which had became very common and widespread during the Prohibition era. Antique Robinson Clay Products Co. Stoneware 1 Gallon Jug Lamp /Blue stripe
Antique stoneware jug made by the Robinson Clay Products Co. founded in Akron. Ohio in 1856. The one gallon jug is decorated with a very artistic design with 2 sets of blue bands seperated with a white band in the middle. This jug was custom made into a lamp by a lighting firm in Avon, Ohio in 1992 for my home. The base of the jug was drilled and has a turned hardwood base and top with internal wiring. This jug lamp is in great condition with no chips. Cracks, stains or repairs. Works perfectly. There is a tight line extending about 2 1/2 in. from the spout on one side which does not effect the stability of the jug. The lamp is approx 12 1/2 in. tall and 7 1/4 in. diameter base. Authentic Small Vintage Basque Stoneware Wine Jug
This is an authentic little vintage Basque stoneware wine or water jug. The loop at the top was used to lash the jug to the saddle of the shepherd. This is a rare smaller size. The jug is made from grayish/white clay. And is undecorated. The jug was hand-formed. It measures 7” tall, and 4-1/2” from spout to air hole. It measures 3” across the bottom. The scent of the wine still lingers inside! The jug is in perfect condition. Free of cracks and chips. It is not marked, as it was made for utility, and not for export. 8 1/4 inch tall. Old heavy embossed stoneware pitcher or jug, has pewter lid with thumb latch, man figural handle, heavily embossed with grapes and leaves and bacchus with other designs, marked Ridgeway& Co with their anchor and urn seal on base, no chips or major damage. But where the thinnest part of the top of the handle attaches to the pitcher their is a very old thin dirt filled hairline crack, probably has been there 100 yerars. It is marked 2 gallon and stands 17 1/2" tall and the base is 8 1/2" in diameter. The unusual feature in a screw in top make out of the stoneware. It is very difficult to read the stamp on the bottom except the 1944 which I assume is for the date. I will be listing a variety of nice estate-fresh Antique and Vintage Items this week. Here is a nice LITTLE ANTIQUE 19THC OVOID STONEWARE JUG. It is 8" high. Looks to be approx. Mid-19thC vintage. But uncertain of precise age. Irregular shape with droopy top lip and indented on one side. Jug has two incised lines around the shoulder. I not believe the jug has any chips. There is a"patchy" area on the top of the handle, but upon close examination it looks to be probably a manufacture flaw, as it appears to have the original glaze over this area(see close-up for your own examination) A small dent spot on the front of the jug also looks to be a manufacture flaw. This is a great jug that was made in Fort Dodge Iowa. At Whites Pottery Works. This is engraved on the jug as shown in the pictures. The jug has one handle, is a chocolate brown and is 9 inches tall and 7 1/2 in. round and weighs a little over 5lbs. In excellent condition. I do see a hair line crack down one side of the jug, it appears to be in the glaze and does not go clear to the top or bottom of the jug. I can't even get it to show up in a picture. NICE

ANTIQUE POTTERY PRIMATIVE WHISKEY MOLASSES JUG POTTERY STONEWARE TAG 1 GAL 221 Offering one glazed stoneware whiskey or molasses jug. The glazing on top is of brown swill. the bottom portion glazed in off white. Appears to be a two piece with the molded handle being put on after the jug mold and then glazed. Shows very little wear and observed no scratches couple of dings here and there. A few pin tip glaze flaws as you would expect. B ottom is lightly glazed in white. There is a metal dog tag marked Dektol Developer so I suspect there may have been a chemical in the jug. The 1 gal. jug measures about 12"h X 6 1/2" w. This pitcher from the evident style I believe is decorated by Sadler& Green, famous for their work. There is evidence of some exterior repair to the spout. I do not see any evidence on the interior of the spout having any repair so it must be fairly superficial. Antique Salt Glazed Jug 5 Quart Mustard Color Best!!
There is no reserve on this handsome old jug. We are pleased to offer for auction this 5 quart jug with applied handle. It was acquired at a collector’s estate sale and the tag says that it has a feldspar glaze with salt and wood ash on the top. The date is circa 1875. It is in excellent condition with only some roughness around the rim. There are no cracks or chips. It is a beautiful mustard color(Dijon) and has ridges around the body of the jug.
