Antique Vintage Late 1800's Beehive 1 Gallon Stoneware jug with Bail Handle
This auction is from our family estate sale and was handmade and fired in the late 1800's- 1900. It is still very solid and intact. And holds one gallon of water that has been physically measured. As evident in the pictures, it has a beautiful spider webbed glazing and beige patina that has came naturally with age. It's approximately 9 1/2 inches tall and the base measures about 6 inches. The total circumference around the jug at the widest point below the shoulders is 23 1/2 inches. It's VERY heavy for its size weighing 3lbs 15.6oz empty. It has a very slight, minor chip on the back of the neck which is hard to see as it occurred quite some time ago and has darkened with age. A picture of it is included. It has a wooden stopper which has a small, plugged-hole drilled through from top to bottom. I assumed because of this that ... morewine was made in this jug at some stage in its long life. We have no solid evidence where it was made, other than our family has owned it for many generations and are originally from central Ohio with German heritage.
