19th C A.K. Ballard Bennington Vt saltglaze 2 gal. stoneware jug w cobalt flower
Offered here as a buy it now or best offer is this 2 gallon A.K. Ballard(Bennington Vermont) salt glaze stoneware jug with a rather impressive floral cobalt decoration. Aside from some glaze drips the sole apology I can find is a barely perceptible'spider' to the side as shown in my last picture(the small'irregularities' to the glaze shown in my 9th and 10th pictures are. I believe, in the manufacturing of the jug) However, the spider is sufficiently tight and small that I'm not sure it isn't simply in the glaze(cant see, of course, that far into the interior of the jug) Nevertheless, as my pictures show, the cobalt is massive and impressive. ba sically encompassing the whole front-side of the jug. ANTIQUE KNIGHT WARE STONEWARE OR SALTGLAZE JAR SUPER LARGE 2' ACROSS X 38" TALL
ITEM DESCRIPTION: I have up for your consideration from The Treasure Chest: A very large stone type jar with a spout at the bottom. Has two steel bands around it. I moved one of the steel bands up some so I could identify the maker: KNIGHT WARE STOCK 201 75 5 VB. Has a handle hold on each side of the jar. I don't have a clue what this was used for. This is a very heavy jar. I don't have any way to weigh it. The size is: 38 3/4" tall measures about 26 1/2" across the center middle at the top of the jar. I measured around the top all the way around and it is about 6' circumference. It is about 2" thick. It has some real tiny hairline splits but not very bad and a chipped place on the bottom rim and I believe that spot can be repaired also. There are a few paint drips, or splatters, not too bad. The spout has been ... morebroken loose and needs repaired. If that spout was repaired, I believe it would still hold water. As you can see in the pictures this is a very large jar and is very heavy. It would have to be pick up only. I can load it but it would be up to the buyer to have a way to unload it. I think this was something to do with Industry maybe. If anyone out there knows what these jars were used for or any history, I would appreciate some information on it. ITEM LOCATION: WIRT COUNTY. PALESTINE, WEST VIRGINIA PAYMENT: PAYPAL SHIPPING: LOCAL PICKUP ONLY THANKS FOR LOOKING AT MY ITEM FROM THE TREASURE CHEST!

early 19th C 3 gal saltglaze stoneware jug w. rare incised bird, as is
Boy. Where to begin here? To say this jug has issues is a bit of an understatement: At some point, someone dropped it and it broke into multiple pieces. I count 14 pieces, though I may have missed one or double counted one. Then they glued it all back together, so you see it as it is. I would have to say neither the word'hairline' or'crack' seems adequate. But clearly, we can be thankful they didn't throw it all away, because otherwise she is indeed a rarity- the early 19th C ovoid form with a boldly incised bird that would otherwise make this piece a centerpiece of anyone's collection. But here is, that's what I have. And since it wasn't me that broke it or glued it together, I have no idea what glue was used and thus cannot be certain of the opportunities for restoration. As for dimensions, she's appx ... more15" high, 10" in diameter at its widest point and 6" at the base(what you see on the base is some tape residue from when, I assume, she was being glued together) Offered without reserve, domestic USPS shipping will run $36(if less I will refund) RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B%3Dd70f%2Bf54%3E-14563241fb8-0x10d-

19th C one gallon Boston incised advertising saltglaze stoneware jug *
Offered here without reserve is this one gallon(9 1/2" tall. 5 1/2" diameter at the base) saltglaze stoneware jug that, while it has no cobalt advertising, has incised advertising for a Mr Tempi whose shop was at the corner at Shawmut and Milton streets in Boston. The sole apology is a chip at the spout as seen in my 3rd picture. Beyond this my pictures tell the rest of the story. Again, there is no reserve but buyer pays $16 for domestic USPS shipping.

Antique 1850 - 1899 Doulton named saltglaze stoneware sprigged hunt jug
We are listing this mid to late 1800s saltglaze stoneware jug sprigged hunt jug marked on the front with the impressed name J. Chapman. The jug is only marked on the bottom with an impressed letter A. But the terminal of the handle is the standard one that Doulton used from the mid to late 1800s(see the close up picture) The jug is almost 5.5 inches tall and 4.5 inches at its widest point. In addition to the stag hunt sprigs around the bottom, it has the toby, smoker, drinker, tree and windmill sprigs typical of Doulton hunt jugs of the period. The jug displays well(and named ones are fairly hard to come by) but it does have its flaws. There is a hairline crack running across the bottom of the handle above the terminal, a small piece of sprigging missing off the end of a windmill blade, a repaired area on one side of the rim, and a y hairline ... moreon the bottom that then turns into another y hairline up the front with another thin hairline near that(see all the closeup pictures) All this sounds horrible, but the jug is quite sound and you can only see the flaws when you are close up. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Shipping to the United Kingdom and Canada will be charged at cost. Payment must be made by Paypal within three days of the auction ending. Be sure to check out our other current and upcoming auctions of hundreds of antique and vintage objects in glass. Very nice 1860s E. A. Buck & Co. Boston Mass. one gallon saltglaze stoneware jug
We are listing this very nice 1860s one gallon salt glaze stoneware jug. Which is impressed on the front with the following lettering(highlighted by partially faded blue glaze) E. A. BUCK& CO. 14 BLACKSTONE STREET, BOSTON, MASS. A successor to E. A. Buck was at this location by 1871, so this jug would be from the 1860s, at the latest. I do not see any maker's mark on the jug, but based on the nicely shaped and obviously hand-formed handle, it was an experienced potter. The jug is 9.5 inches tall, 6 inches wide, and in very good condition for a 150 year old piece of utilitarian stoneware. There is a tiny flake off the top rim and another one off the base edge, and some underglaze flakes off both areas as well. Please view the closeup pictures and judge this Civil War era piece for yourself. We can currently only accept bids on this ... morefrom the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Nice 1860s CURTIS PITMAN 154 FEDERAL ST BOSTON 2 gallon saltglaze stoneware jug
We are listing this very nice 1860s two gallon handled salt glaze stoneware jug made for Curtis Pitman of Boston by an unknown potter. It is impressed on the front(and highlighted with blue glaze) CURTIS PITMAN. 154 FEDERAL ST, BOSTON. Curtis Pitman's tombstone in Boston says that he was born in 1816 and died in 1876. Based on the style of this jug it likely dates to the 1860s at the latest. The jug is 11.5 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide, and very solid(and heavy) The handle is nicely hand formed, the base has been wire cut, and it is in very good condition for a utilitarian piece of stoneware 150 years old. There are some very small surface rubs and the usual glaze flaws on this kind of stoneware, but this is a great old jug. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself. Nice 1860s WH JONES & CO 153 BLACKSTONE ST BOSTON 2 gal. saltglaze stoneware jug
We are listing this nice 1860s two gallon handled salt glaze stoneware whisky jug made for W.H. Jones& Co. by an unknown potter. It is impressed on the front(and highlighted with cobalt glaze) WH JONES& CO. 153 BLACKSTONE ST, BOSTON. This firm was established in 1851 as an importer of wines and spirits, and it operated at this location into at least the 1870s. Based on the wire cut base and the nicely hand formed handle, this jug dates to the 1860s Civil War period. It is 11 inches tall, a little over 7 inches wide, and has a great patina. It is a very solid and heavy jug, but it does have the following flaws(or character marks if you prefer) there is an old chip off the back of the rim which is a little rough all around, there is an excess clay concretion on the back near the base(and some newer rubs spots in that same area) and ... morethere is an old hairline that runs down one side and across the base. Due to the locations of the flaws they don't greatly affect the visual display of the jug. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself. This is a great looking Civil War period whisky jug. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Shipping to the United Kingdom and Canada will be charged at cost. Payment must be made by Paypal within three days of the auction ending.
