This turn of the century jug is quite hefty with black or deep navy blue graphics over a cream/ off-white background with an applied handle highlighted in tan along with the neck. There are no cracks or chips. This item is in good- very good"as found" condition considering the age and use with minimal if any crazing. It appears at one time someone may have used this jug as a candle holder as there is a bit of residual wax to the inner neck area. It is 8 1/2"H. There are a couple chips and the bottom has a crack. It's not bad though. The crack isn't all the way through and the jug feels tight and strong and solid. No marks. Unsure of age. Is this genuine antique 19thc Stoneware Jug covered with a deep dark layer of Albany Brown Slip Glaze and fitted with a Pour Lip Spout for your liquid refreshment, did anyone say Moonshine? This is an American pottery piece manufactured in the post 1850 time frame for utilitarian use but now elevated into a country collectible with much charm from yesteryear just for you! Stoneware Jug stands 10" tall and measures 7 7/8" across the base diameter formed in a slight gumdrop shape with well formed loop strap handle flowing right into a pointed pour lip spout neck fitted with an old cork that moves in and out freely at will. Slight dishing of neck to catch drips(lest you shall waste any good liquid refreshment to spillage! Scale weight is a rock solid heavy ... morefive pounds! Slight lighter brown kiss mark haze near bottom due to uneven firing in the making. Please study pictures taken outdoors in natural sunlight to view all colors and characteristics of this sturdy piece of pottery. Very thick chocolate brown overglaze with no flaking or fry anywhere coats the exterior with a plain bottom. Unsigned, and no capacity mark, but I would call this a goodly one gallon size. Here is a molasses jug made out of pottery that was used back in the day to store Moonshine. I can't say this one had moonshine in it. Jug stands a tad over 11 inches tall and is 7 inches across the base. Does have two chips which is common with these jugs to have some chipping from lots of use. One chip is on one side of the handle and the other one is on the bottom near the edge. You should be able to see them in the pictures. As you can see it displays well. This listing is for an unusual whiskey jug marked USONA(United States of North America) and Goodwin- and has the dragon image on the backstamp. It is likely from the 1905-1912 time period. From East Liverpool, Ohio. The jug sports an image of a dog's face on the front. The item measures about 5 3/4-6 inches in height and, at its widest point, about 5 1/2 inches in diameter. The mouth of the jug has gold trim, which is somewhat worn. Also, there are a few areas in which the color has chipped or flaked away, leaving the white porcelain beneath visible(see 8th photo of two flaked off areas near the handle and the 2nd photo for small areas of white beneath the handle) Please note that the long streaks of white around the neck of the jug and at its widest point are reflections, no flaking. sr 1262013 I am not an antique dealer. This is being sold for a friend who has had this forever and has had to part with his collections due to hard times. So please feel free to ask any questions prior to purchase! This jug has lots of flaws or some say character. I cannot not find definitive markings. However, there are markings underneath the pour spout that we can not decipher. There also appear to be markings on the bottom that look like initials, but age has deteriorated it. The brown part of the jug is full of flea bites, comes with the cork. The base of the handle is not perfect but it looks like it was manufactured that way. The crock has a dent in it on the right hand side of the spout, as well as a square chip from the base of the bottom. There are also flea bites and flaws from manufacturer. It appears to be made of red terra cotta type pottery with possibly a stoneware handle. It measures 7-5/8" tall. The base is approximately 4" in diameter and the width of the jug is about 5-1/2" wide measuring from ear to ear. Great detail. The jug is in very good condition with no chips. There are a few tiny nicks in the painted finish which shows the red color of the pottery underneath. The inside appears to have a thick glaze to protect it from liquid. 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE AMERICAN FOLK ART STONEWARE POTTERY HANDMADE WHISKEY JUG. This piece is a handmade stoneware pottery whiskey jug circa 19th century. Original and authentic. It has a hand applied handle, is in very good condition with no repairs or restoration, measures approx. 11.25" tall x 6.75" wide. Piece has no chips other than along the underside of bottom of bottom rim there are some on this underside which are not deep-see pics-please see pics provided, also has one small chip along the rim of vessel for which I have provided a close-up pic for your inspection(please see pic provided) The handle and top spout have no chips either, a lovely and charming country rustic folk art piece, original stoneware handmade pottery whiskey jug with no repairs and minimal damage. smoke/pet free home. ANTIQUE N C CANNON STONEWARE WHISKEY JUG SALOON VICKSBURG. MS SOUTHERN POTTERY. N.C. CANNON WINES& LIQUORS 309 WASHINGTON VICKSBURG MISS. For auction is an unusually scarce antique stoneware half-gallon or so. Advertising jug N.C. CANNON WINES& LIQUORS 309 WASHINGTON VICKSBURG MISS. from Nathan C. Cannon, an African American who operated a saloon on Washington Street in Vicksburg, Mississippi, at the turn of the twentieth century. N. C. Cannon was African American, and his advertising jugs are rare. These Cannon jugs just are not around anymore. And chances are it will be a long time before another one shows up on ebay. Mississippi declared statewide prohibition in 1908, and this jug probably dates around 1905 or so. The stoneware jug is in fair to good condition. There are a few very small lip chips, a few super small chips or rubs ... moreof the brown, original handle. The main issue is that there is about an approximately 1 ¼” circular patch in the back below the handle(see photos) This is how it was when I bought it. I don’t know if it was an original repair after the jug was made or as some later time. It does show some hairline cracks that may just be from the glaze in that area that may be from an impact but I just don’t know. The size is 7 ¾” tall by 6” in diameter. The stencil is quite nice as you can see in the photographs. Even with the patched area this is a super rare jug and displays great. The patch is in the back and lower so you do not see it from the front at all. The jug is still very sold and not at all falling apart. This is a super opportunity to buy a rare Vicksburg jug by an African American saloon owner. Paypal only and shipping $16.00 probably by FedEx ground.
