Nice early 1800s Georgian blue & white glazed and sprigged stoneware jug
We are listing this nice early 1800s blue and white glazed stoneware jug with decorative bands around the rim. Three large classical sprigs, and ring turning above the base. The two side sprigs are from ancient mythology, but I do not know their meaning. The jug is 5 inches tall, almost 7.5 inches at its widest point, and displays very well. It does have minor flaws- slight rubbing on the spout, a couple of missing beads on the upper decorative bands, and a couple of separation lines on the sprigging(as well as crazing inside the jug, and thin hairlines on the bottom) but these do not detract from the visual effect of this old jug. Please view the close up pictures and judge for yourself. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Rare & unique Britannia-sprigged early 1800s Georgian blue & white ceramic jug
We are listing this rare very unusually sprigged early 1800s blue and white glazed ceramic jug. The central sprig is a unique Brittania with lion tableau. With classical mythology sprigs around the sides(some of which are very unique as well) The jug is unmarked but the quality and individuality of the sprigs indicates a premiere potter. It is over 4.5 inches tall, over 5.5 inches at its widest point, and in very good condition for a piece this old(there are rubs and small separation lines on the sprigs, and a few glaze flaws) Please view the close up pictures and judge for yourself. Large early 1800s Georgian blue & white glazed and sprigged stoneware hunt jug
We are listing this large early 1800s Georgian blue and white glazed and sprigged hunt jug. In addition to the standard hunt scene sprigs which encircle the jug. There is also a beaded band below the rim, and three beaded bands below the sprigging. The base on this jug is unusually large, which is sometimes seen on jugs used at sea(for obvious reasons, with the shipboard hazards 200 years ago) The jug is 6 inches tall, 8 inches at its widest point, and displays well. There are hairlines at the bottom of the spout and down one side of the spout(and that one carries through to the inside as well) several separation lines and small losses on the sprigging, and some crackling to the glaze(mostly on the bottom) Still this is a pretty and impressive old jug- please view the close up pictures and judge for yourself. Beautiful early 1800s Georgian blue & white glazed and sprigged stoneware jug
We are listing this beautiful early 1800s Georgian glazed and sprigged stoneware jug. This is a fantastic(but unmarked) piece. With its alternating acanthus leaves and bluebell stalks, wreath of hop vines encircling the neck, ring turning around the base, and very striking Bacchus spout- all covered by an exquisitely glazed finish. There is an 1830s acanthus and bluebell jug from the Cameron Hall Collection pictured and described on page 6 of A Collector's Guide to Nineteenth-Century Jugs Volume II, but it does not have the decorative spout and handle of this jug. The jug is almost 4.5 inches tall, almost 7 inches at its widest point, and in excellent condition. This is a truly exceptional 200 year old jug- please view the close up pictures and judge for yourself. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. Nice early 1800s Georgian blue glazed white stoneware jug w/unique putti sprigs
We are listing this very nice early 1800s Georgian white stoneware jug which has a brilliant blue glaze band applied around its rim and spout. It also has two large sprigs of putti on its side and a classical decorative sprig on its front. The putti scenes are very detailed and rather unique to my knowledge. In addition to the sprigging. The jug also features a feathered design on the spout, and engine turning above the base. Although the jug is unmarked, the quality is comparable to that of the premiere potters of the early 1800s. It is over 6.5 inches tall, 7 inches at its widest point, and in very good condition for its age. There is a tiny flake of blue glaze off the bottom of the spout's rim, and a thin hairline which comes down from one side of the rim for about 2 inches(which can only be seen close up) Please view the closeup pictures ... moreand judge for yourself. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Shipping to the United Kingdom and Canada will be charged at cost. Cute little early 1800s Georgian blue & white glazed stoneware hunt-sprigged jug
We are listing this tiny little early 1800s Georgian blue and white glazed stoneware jug. Which is sprigged all around with a hunting scene. Although the jug is unmarked, the sprigging is quite well done, as is the engine turned banding above the base- indicating this was from one of the better potteries of that period. The jug is less than 3 inches tall, less than 4 inches at its widest point, and in very good condition. The handle is slightly out of line, there are the usual separation lines on some of the sprigs and the side of the spout, and there are two tiny glaze pops inside the spout- but none of this negatively affects the look of this cute little 200 year old piece. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Unusually sprigged early 1800s Georgian blue and white glazed stoneware mug
We are listing this early 1800s Georgian blue and white glazed stoneware mug. Which is sprigged with a seldom seen combination of sprigs. The front sprig is the three-feathered Prince of Wales badge, one side sprig is a scene from classical mythology, and the sprig on the other side shows a seemingly sad Brittania with her lion. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it may represent a mourning for some person or historical event- but I am only guessing on that. The sprigging(including a band of leaves below the rim) is very well done, although somewhat filled in by the glaze. The blue glaze is somewhat faded out in spots, and the white portions are crackled and somewhat darkened(unless it was originally that off-white color) The mug is 3.25 inches tall, almost 5 inches at its widest point, and in very good condition. Besides the previously ... morementioned faded glaze and crackling, etc. there is a tiny flake/crack at the bottom of the handle, and a bit of the leaf band sprigging running on to the top of the handle, along with tiny, tiny rough spots on the top and bottom rims. Please view the close up pictures and judge for yourself. This is a very unique old mug. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Shipping to the United Kingdom and Canada will be charged at cost. Payment must be made by Paypal within three days of the auction ending. Very nice early 1800s Georgian beautifully sprigged blue & white stoneware mug
We are listing this beautifully sprigged early 1800s Georgian blue and white glazed stoneware mug. Although it is unmarked. The quality of the sprigging, ring turning(above the base) and glazing is excellent. The front sprig is a beautiful large basket of flowers, and the two side sprigs are very detailed classical mythology scenes. The mug is over 3.5 inches tall, almost 5.5 inches at its widest point, and in very good condition. The glaze has been rubbed in spots on the handle, but this is a beautiful 200 year old mug. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Very pretty early 1800s Georgian blue and white glazed & sprigged stoneware jug
We are listing this very pretty early 1800s Georgian stoneware jug which is sprigged with numerous well defined classical mythology scenes(and a decorative band of leaves and grapes under the rim) Ring turned above the base, and beautifully glazed in blue and white. There is no maker's mark(just an impressed number 2 on the base) but this is definitely a top quality 200 year old jug by one of the very best potteries of the time. It is also a very substantial jug- 5.5 inches tall, 8 inches at its widest point, and quite heavy. This is a very attractive jug which displays very well, with only the following minor flaws- there is a hairline in the spout, a couple of very shallow glaze flakes on the bottom rim(which really can't be seen from the side) and tiny separation lines at the handle and the spout. Surprisingly, it does not have ... moreany of the usual separation lines in the sprigging- again indicating the superb quality of the sprigging and glazing of this jug. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself- this is one of the best jugs of this type I have ever seen. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Shipping to the United Kingdom and Canada will be charged at cost. Payment must be made by Paypal within three days of the auction ending. Early 1800s Georgian blue stoneware copy of Warwick Vase from Hadrian's villa
We are listing this unique early 1800s Georgian relief molded blue stoneware two-handled centerpiece vase which is a copy of the famous Roman stoneware Warwick Vase discovered when Hadrian's villa in Tivoli was excavated in 1771(and now resides in the Burrell Collection in Scotland) It is unmarked but it is definitely a unique piece with very unusual handles and decorations. Each handle is formed from two intertwining branches which wrap around under the rim to meet in the middle. And the designs on the front and back are most unusual lion skins(with the heads, tails, and paws) below four classical or mythological heads. It sits on a pedestal base and has additional decorative elements above the pedestal and around the top rim. The piece is almost 7 inches tall, a little over 8.5 inches at its widest point, and in very good condition ... morefor a 200 year old vase. There is a small flake out of the bottom inside of the rim, hairlines at the top joins of one handle, and some shiny glaze on the pedestal base(which might cover up an old repair? Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself- my description cannot adequately convey the uniqueness of this piece. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States.
