Blown early open pontiled decanter with applied rings Sharp pontil Flint bottle
Nice early blown open pontiled decanter with applied rings. The glass is very clear with only a couple small superficial scratches. Very light and not long. The rings on the neck are typical for applied glass. Have lines, but are not cracked. No chips, cracks, or repairs that I can see. I do not see a water line or residue. The decanter has a rough pontil scar in the center of the base. Two strips or rings of glass were added to the neck and carefully tooled and attached and there is a broad. Well rounded rim, it is ground on the inner neck, with the stopper fitted. Nice early decanter that I am told is attributed to Boston and Sandwich Glass. Circa 1820s-40s. Condition; very good except for one open air bubble on top rim. SIZE: decanter alone stands 9-3/4 inches tall with the stopper in place. This auction is for a beautiful aqua blue hand blown glass bottle. The bottom of the bottle has a very rough pontil scar. The neck of the bottle is wrapped with a thin line of glass that was applied while still hot. I don't much about the details of this bottle. As I found it in an old house I am cleaning. The bottle weighs 4 lbs 3 oz. It stands almost 12 inches tall. At the widest point it is 9 inches wide. The bottom is roughly 6 1/2 inches wide. The bottom is made uneven and the bottle rocks. There are two small dings in the glass as shown in the pictures. Otherwise, there are no un-natural defects. There are areas where the hand blown process has left"beauty marks" on the bottle. Spirits, or ale/porter/cider bottle to the left is of early American origin being blown by the New England Glass Bottle Company(Cambridge, Mass. between 1827 and 1845(McKearin& Wilson 1978) That company name is embossed very faintly on the base of this bottle- click NEGBCo base marking to view a picture of the base. The center of the base has a sand pontil mark that is typical of the era. Click shoulder. Neck& finish to view a close-up of those portions of this bottle. Like its English counterparts. This bottle was made in a three-piece mold though very similar types were also free-blown(usually earlier) and produced in dip molds. This wide squatty style was common in different variations from the late 18th century into the middle of the 19th century. It is pure olive green glass, with an open pontil mark on it's base, dating it to the 1860s. It has a hard to find spider crack in the side panel, so thin that you have to search for it, and some tiny lip flakes. RARE TALL 18TH CENTURY ALPINE COUNTRIES BLOWN GLASS BOTTLE, pontil
A rare 18th century. Possibly Alpine Countries(maybe Austria, the bottle comes from an old Austrian estate that was recently cleared out) mould-blown glass bottle, of tall slender shape with finely ribbed bands spiralling upward from left to right; blown by the German half-post method, the body with cross-shape horizontal cross section. The top in the shape of a small globe with narrow opening, looking a bit like a nipple. Colorless glass with nice swirls, the metal containing some impurities a.o. small pot stones. Blowpipe pontil scar below the base. Perhaps this bottle was used as a feeder flask/ biberon? Or is it some kind of early barber bottle or sprinkler flask? Or is it just an odd type spirits flask? I did not find anything like it in my books on early glass bottles(also not in W. Van den Bossche) Nor in my auction catalogues or on ... morethe internet. The fine askew ribbing on the body provides a good grip while pouring and/or shaking the bottle. The aqua green color Alpine countries bottle(dated circa 1720) on the front cover of Van den Bossche to the left looks somewhat similar as far as the shape of the body and the askew ribbing goes. Which could make it a Barber Bottle or Cologne. there is much surface wear on the bottom, it is a dark purple when held to the light. has greek design in Mary Gregory style, and there is some loss or damage to that in few places refer to photos 7& 8. stands 7" tall. and very rough Pontil scar with some indentation. I have spent many many hours through out the last 8 years trying to attach a maker to this but I just can't seem to find anything helpful. it is possible that this could be a Paden City piece.

Rare. Antique mercury glass ewer in a very large size. The glass is blown with an applied handle. The glass thickness on the bottle is about 1/4" The glass thickness on the applied handle is about 1/2" Bottle is ribbed and also has rough pontil. Bottle stands about 9 1/2" tall and measures about 13" across the bottom. Some slight mercury loss at the opening and also on the underside in a couple ribs as seen in the photos. Antiqua Demijohn Aqua Blue Hand Blown Glass Bottle w/ Pontil
This is a pre 1900s large Demijohn bottle. It is hand blown with a great crude pontil mark on the base. It has stretched bubbles throughout as shown in the pictures. The demensions are as follows: 19 inches tall from base to lip 15 inches wide 44 inches circumference This bottle is a jewel in aqua blue and is in excellent condition. There is one very small chip on the top which is shown in the pictures. I do not know the specific history of this bottle, when I aquired the bottle the wicker was aged, discolored and falling apart so I discarded the wicker and unveiled this beauty. It has been inside my home ever since and has been used as a vase for silk flowers, it makes a unique piece for interior decoration and is a relic of a time gone. Rare demijohn loaf bread 1800's pontil glass bottle, wicker case
This is an 1800's. Rare, crudely- made, large greenish-blue loaf bread, demijohn, pontil glass bottle with applied lip and short neck. I am not sure if the cork is original but it appears to be old. Wax is attached to the neck. Unfortunately I am unable to see the full bottle because of the wicker, which I will not remove-that will be up to the new owner. We have carefully examined the bottle(in this limited capacity) and there are no chips or cracks-in fact I would say it is in excellent condition, but I am not an expert. You can see small bubbles and what appears to be a crease or smooth fold in the neck(not a crack) all part of the crude manner in which it was made. The bottle is approximately 7 3/4" tall, 9 5/8" long, and 6 3/8" wide. There is a pontil mark(like a belly button) at the bottom. The bottle has what I believe to be a sand pontil base, with abrasive feel to glass inside. A brown bottle. That weighs a bit under 1 pounds, 10 ounces. This bottle was found at a recent Brooklyn estate sale where the former owner collected antiquities. Stretching as far back as 4000 B.C. 18th c. Steigel type Hand Blown Bottle Pontil on Base enameled decoration
Early Vintage Stiegel Sort of Blown Bottle This a very early bottle. Possible pre 1800 or early 1800's. It is hand blown, no side seam marks, but must have been blown into a crude eight sided mold, but they are very rounded edges, crudely done, however there are eight uneven sides and a sloping uneven shoulder. A very nice pontil mark on bottom, and a blob sort of applied neck to the top of the bottle, with a pewter screw cap. When you view the top of the bottle, you will see it is somewhat lopsided too. Also has a few seed shape air bubbles within the glass, non have popped. Hand painted flowers and squiggly designs with very little wear to the paint. THERE ARE NO CHIPS OR CRACKS IN THE GLASS. I recently sold another early bottle.
