Entirely intact. A little wear consistent with any household item which is over a century in age. A few minute blemishes typical of handcrafted ancient porcelain of the era– almost indiscernible. Not flawless, but certainly in an excellent state of preservation. DETAIL: A nicely preserved very cute little cosmetic case or jewelry box done in the traditional blue and white porcelain so wonderfully characteristic of late Ming/early Qing Dynasty artwork. The glaze is entirely intact. Vibrant cobalt blue, and the condition of the case is exceptionally good. There are of course a few minor scuffs, marks, dings, etc. As well there are the little blemishes so typical of handcrafted porcelain of the Qing and Ming Dynasties; warts, dimples, pimples and pits; but hardly noticeable except with critical scrutiny. All of the preceding almost unnoticeable and very minor, we’re just playing critic here in the interest of full disclosure. The depiction on the outside on the top of the lid is of three men in an idyllic park setting This is as close to as good as one can reasonably expect of a porcelain box somewhere between one and two centuries old. Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold. First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive. Once the molds are done. The insides are coated with layers of wax. The halves are then bound together and wax poured inside to complete the wax image being created. Once the wax has cooled. The tiles measure 5 3/4 by 5 3/4 by 1/4, they have the numbers on the reverse 3 in a circle, 23 in a circle, in my research, I could not find out anything more about these than what is stated on the back. 2 Antique Decorative Arts Silverplate Creamers
Up for auction are two antique silver-plated creamers recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. They are found in good used condition. Both are unsigned. The footed one does have a number incised on the bottom, which is number 950. This is best seen in photo#7. The only condition is a small dent in the bulbous form creamer, best seen in photo#9. Both creamers could benefit from a good cleaning. The footed creamer stands on four feet and is vine decorated. This creamer has a wonderful spout and scrolled and incised handle. It measures approximately 5 1/4" tall and has an opening of approximately 3" in size. The feet are quite decorative as well. The second creamer has a round foot, a nicely scrolled handle rope decorated foot and rim. 1950's Era Signed Hand Painted Antique Toleware Tole Tray Decorative Arts
Up for sale is a vintage reticulated tole tray with a rose and flower design in the center. It is found in fair to good used condition and would look good hanging on the wall or to be used on a daily basis. Primary colors are gold. Red, yellow, green and blue on a black background. The paint on the flowers has losses and there are also losses to the black backgound paint as well. Even with all the wear it has a wonderful folky appearance. The back is black. There is no maker's information. The tray measures approx.17 1/2" x 13 1/2" A great decorative collectable.
