Ag, dry goods, metals, timber and people came to and from Stockton by ship and boat via the San Joaquin Delta system from the San Francisco Bay in the 1800's. So it is certainly likely this piece could have made a long journey before arriving in Stockton. There were artisans in Stockton during the 1800's producing earthenware and glass goods. A good example of early pottery from these area may be found by seaching for"Stockton Art Pottery" online. Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. This is an antique 10 gallon stoneware crock. The only stoneware in this auction is the crock. The other jugs are there to judge its immense size and due to bulk and weight this must be a pick-up only. Crock is in great condition with a couple of hair-lines and an american eagle sticker that was put on some years ago, but will peel off with some effort. Crock has 2 wires that go all the way around near the top and bottom, and looks like these were put on right after the jug was fired, to protect it from breaking. This auction is for a Vintage Red Wing 3 gallon crock. Has a blue number 3 on the front. A red wing and the Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. Red Wing Minn. Stands right at 10" tall with a diameter of right at 10.5" across. This has some blemishes, a chip on the rim and fractures across the bottom as you can see in the photos. Also on the bottom someone has placed felt pads so the crock wouldn't scratch any surface it set on, these could be removed. This is solid, the fractures are not breaks. Decorated with what looks like an Asian character of some sort.but that is just a guess. No maker's mark, nor any other markings. A medium gray in color with the symbol(s) in cobalt blue. This is an antique copper moonshine still that was found in eastern Pennsylvania. It is handmade and appears to hold about 10 gallons. Both the upper and lower parts are threaded. But the threads do not match, there may be a piece that goes between them. I have not attempted to clean or polish the still, it is in original condition. This double-dot 10-gallon drum dates back to the 1940s and is a prized piece of Pepsi memorabilia.
